Even though her one-shot Koe no Katachi won critical acclaim, it took a longsome law suit to get a magazine to publish it because of its socio-critical theme. Eventually, it was featured in the February edition of Bessatsu Shounen Magazin, where it placed first, and later in the 12th edition of the 2013 Weekly Shounen Magazine.

She has also collaborated with UBUKATA Tow for the manga adaption of his novel Mardock Scramble.

Fushi is going to regret . I'm kind of glad this arc is over though and I'm looking forward to see what new people/groups Fushi ends up with.

Hayase is one of the most f*cked up villains ever. I hate her but I also can't not find her brilliant.

So many feels. This was a very moving volume that has Fushi gradually evolving, becoming more human and aware of his own identity, as he experiences loss, regret, love and hate and tries to make sense of his role in everything. In terms of emotional depth this volume ranks up there with the first for me. The art is stunning, but the details get a bit lost in this tankoban format. Can't wait to see how this translates to animation though.

Oh, dear. Zombies?! Well, it's good that the prison island storyline wraps up in this volume. And if you know anything about this series by now, you know not everyone is getting out alive.

This book is odd and bleak and frustrating at times, but I cannot stop reading as I wonder how the next death will effect me as much as I wonder how it will effect our immortal protagonist.

Incredible conclusion to the Jananda arc. Great new characters and solid thematic footing. Old plot points get interwoven and new elements are constantly introduced, so the series stays fresh. This may be my favorite volume since the first few, not that the series has ever dipped, really. Can't wait to see what's next!

I feel like I really didn't know what I was getting myself into when I picked up the first volume of this series. Where we were then and where we are now feels so different and I wasn't expecting such disturbing villains from this series. Zombies really aren't my thing so this volume had some of my least favourite moments. Also, Hayase's behaviour was incredibly disturbing. I did think the last few chapters of the volume were really great though, and a nice change of tone from what we've been experiencing. I found them the most touching so far.

The prison island arc mercifully comes to an end. The new characters were barely sketched out and the emotional beats don;'t land because of it. Hayase is an over the top villain and the book skips from from one ridiculous plot twist to another, including the sudden appearance of zombie parasites. I'm hoping volume 7 goes back to basics.

Not the most heartbreaking volume in the series. There are a lot of secondary characters in this volume, and some of them are left with hopeful notes for their futures.

I will be going into every book assuming someone I like will die. I also will be emotionally devastated each time, even though I know it'll happen.
I still am not fully sure what the story is actually leading to, but I am here and will stay here for it.

Unfortunately, I have missed a few books, only to find the next closest one, and it's the back half of Tonari's part. To be fair, while an overwhelmingly large number of the comments on the show (when they were available) expressed extreme dislike toward Tonari, a small number suggested that the pattern seemed to be that we would end up liking her and being sad when she dies.

That's not really a spoiler, the part about her dying, any more than it's a spoiler that *I* will die sometime. I mean, this series DOES cover MANY CENTURIES (that's probably more of a spoiler), so the idea of *anyone* other than Fushi and, say, the Beholder living to the end of it is not really feasible.

That said, I'm willing to wager a very large sum that there is death probably in every volume of this series without exception, until MAYBE the very later volumes where Fushi can focus more on other things than on having to fight anything for survival or to protect anyone. This volume only supports my claim (which I already know from the anime), and... I was actually a little disappointed when it got to this, since it *sort of* involves zombies. Like, the Nokkers making corpses into zombies... or living people into corpses into zombies. Kind of. Definitely "animated dead things that kill living things," at the very least. I say this mostly because I have quit multiple things upon reaching a zombie plot point, since there have been *very* few zombie-themed stories I actually liked, since there's almost never a "good" ending.

The Nokkers-as-Zombies continues beyond this volume (...spoiler), but at least as of the end of the anime's season 2, the happy ending actually arrives, so... I guess I'll forgive it THIS time. Definitely still not excited about "animated dead things that kill living things" on the whole.

I also thought that, despite Tonari breaking the "pattern" of the stories to date, I wouldn't be that much sadder about the characters' deaths, since after so many (especially the first one), it just starts to be expected. Nope, is pretty dang sad, actually, especially since .

The art is a little weird after watching the anime, but I appreciate Oima's original style, since the anime is a little bit "prettier" for various reasons. It's like how Sailor Moon was changed a LOT for the (first) anime, such that Takeuchi's style looks bizarre by comparison, but after seeing so many shows where the style is contorted into a more "standard" style, I actually sort of prefer now when the original creator's style is more preserved? I mean, they definitely tried harder with To Your Eternity than the (first) Sailor Moon, but there are still some quirks in the manga art than just don't come through in animation (for reasons of how things are animated).

On the whole, not my favourite part of the story, but still a good read. Absolutely not a good starting place for newcomers.

Fushi is helping accompany Tonari in a revolt against the punishment of the innocent. Hayase strikes a deal with Fushi in order to allow the children to escape Jananda Island. Hayase's obsession with him is dangerous, as is Fushi's hatred towards women. When Fushi is left behind, Tonari returns in order to fight for his freedom as well. Along the way, a bloodbath begins, one that could only end if the criminals and prisoners band together.

"Freedom means you are constrained by no one. So, is constraint evil? No, it is but a step in evolution."
I had recently considered dropping the To Your Eternity series due to recent books being disappointing and repetitive, but that final verdict was changed when I read this volume. Volume 6 re-works itself into the things I loved so much about To Your Eternity: the sheer beauty and profound lens that explores human life, loss, grief, trauma, and pain. While I still have to say that the overall plot of the story does feel repetitive with new characters, the lessons in this volume were done as well as they could be.

I hope that as the story progresses in more volumes, Yoshitoki Oima can branch off from the character deaths: Fuschi goes through a character growth, becomes happy again, the character dies, etc. When characters die, it shows how fragile a human life can be. Sometimes the deaths add to the character that died, other times it only happens to progress Fushi's character growth. Hayase was a character that I could not like for one moment. Her actions were disgusting as well as odd. I personally felt like it was unneeded. I am warning those who read this volume that although it is a quick scene, her actions are of a sexual nature.

Tonari was a character who I found annoying at first but grew to like. I enjoyed her loyalty towards the people and her compassion for others. I really love that this manga series has more diversity than some I've seen, with different cultures in this world that are shown, as well as characters having different skin colors. The ending was one that had the hardest impact on me. Pioran, a character who has been with Fushi for so long, has such a beautiful moment in this story that was breath-taking. The last couple of panels in the story took time to breathe and just focus on their relationship.

It was rewarding to see and feel the connection between Fushi and Pioran. I'm excited to read volume seven with the hints it gave to where the plot will go.

"To Fushi it must feel as if the Pioran he had known for so long is being extinguished little by little. Because of this situation, Fushi also begins to change little by little. He begins to smile frequently. His smile is a refreshing expression refreshing because he is always moving forward. Perhaps he smiles because of a new, fleeting experience with something that deeply moves him. Perhaps that is all he can do to bear someone fading away."

The cover art bothers me; Tonari should've been darker. In the story she looked like she was black or Hispanic or at least heavily tanned, but the cover makes her look white. And don't tell me "this is a fantasy world and we have no idea what race these characters are so they could all be white" BS! Sandel has the same shade in the story but he's dark skinned on the back cover! Pioran too! Diversity, people!

Then there's Hayase, the lady that kidnapped Parona and March in the first book, she's back and she's murdered Parona too. And now she's sexually assaulting Fushi while he's unconscious. Boundaries, you creepy crazy yandere lady!

¡ME QUEMA, ME DUELE, ME LASTIMA!

Fushi agrees to stay on Jananda with Hayase, in exchange for letting Tonari and the others go.

But the Nokkers are primed for another attack, and this time their methods are decidedly more gruesome ...

description

The very first pages of this volume were just ... nine kinds of disturbing.

description

No more of that, please.

Aside from that, however, this volume was a step up from the previous two. The continuing fight with Hayase, although occasionally creepy, was fascinating, and the new Nokker attack was truly disturbing.

I also found myself warming to Tonari, who turned out to be kind of an awesome character.

That ending, though.

It's obvious that this manga is going to be consistently depressing, haha!

An island united against a legion of Knockers

Just as a quick warning Fushi finds himself in the clutches of the less then sane Hayase who attempts to take him intimately while he is unconscious from her knock out drug. She isn't able to go all the way but she does at least strip though there is no lower pubic shots so I thought I would let people know in case attempted rape and partial nudity is a concern to you.

This story is about the resolution of actions taken on the island of Janada and the fates of all those that fight for what they believe in. I wish I could say it is all going to be a happy ending but sometimes in order to give your best A game sacrifices must be made. Still with so much going on you will not be bored and in the end the chapter although it does have sad moments has good moments too so you will have to decide if it was worth it in the end for yourself as out immortal friend Fushi continues his journey into the future.

Who knew that Pioran would turn out to be Fushi's greatest friend?

Other things that really mark this volume:
1. Hayase being the super creepiest creep ever, yikes.
2. Fushi starting to make more choices for himself.
3. Freakin' Nokkers.
4. So many more forms for Fushi to take...

There is a time jump at the end of this volume so it should be interesting to see where volume 7 goes. I'm really enjoying this series more and more as the deeper end game plot emerges.

This was another good volume. I like the concept of these two volume arcs and how they allow us to see change in Fushi.
I found Hayase's return to be interesting and am curious if there will be more to it.
The pages between shinee of the chapters where letters and other notes are written is cool too and helps give a little insight to characters who have left or are leaving.
Good volume over all, I look forward to the next.

I love this manga, which gives me a lot of mixed feelings. Fushi has learnt the best behaviour from people. He wants to avoid hurting or killing others. He feels guilty when knockers attack his friends or human beings. Ayase won't give him up so easily. Pioran is a wise and free old woman. She's able to pass on her wisdom to Fushy as he continues his journey to experience life. There will be a surprise sooner or later
