Inspiring accounts of remarkable adventures and scientific discoveries that have revolutionized our understanding of our world and tested the limits of human endurance.
This is a collection of trailblazing journeys into the unknown that have had a profound effect on our understanding of the world, transformed the way we live and inspired generations. Each short chapter will focus on a groundbreaking journey and the scientific endeavour that made it possible, from the new navigational instruments used to discover a new country or hidden city, to the advances in engineering that have made it possible for us to explore the depths of the ocean, to the rocket science that has propelled us into space. From the moon to Mount Everest, this is a book about adventure, our thirst for knowledge and pushing the limits of human endurance.
This is a little book with bite-sized, interesting stories about explorations of the land, sea, and space. The book doesn't provide detailed accounts of all the stories, but I'm more than happy with it because I received many book recommendations, amazing stories, and new interesting people to look into in the future. I can't wait to get another copy of this series.
This is an excellent book. Its a collection of many great "first" moments for humanity. From deep oceans, to remote lands and finally to deep space, this book lives up to its name of covering "Big Explorations". The details provided in each covered exploration gives a very vivid picture of the events unfolded in real time, allowing the reading to quickly live through all the moments. I must say this book is a great read and well written. Definitely recommended to everyone.
TL;DR: Buy if you would like to read a potpourri of short science adventure stories, don’t buy if you are looking for detailed and technical style presentation of the same scientific discoveries and adventures.
Easy read and no strong negative aspects. Everything is pretty accurate, which deserves an applause. It talks about geographic, biological, marine and space discoveries. It presents the stories of a mission or a discoverer in a few pages, in the style of an exciting short story. However the lack of detail and the repetition of the writing style across the different stories makes it a little bit less fun to read. Overall it is a good book. It was good for me to learn about some of the cool missions and discoveries that I was not aware of.
This is an interesting collection of trivia about exploration and discovery in the past, present and future. It is an fascinating overview, which is entertaining to read, but doesn't go into anything in great depth. However, it did make me aware of things I might like to read more about at some point.
This was an okay read. Not so many details but i've learned new many things, i am happy enough. i've made many notes about the expeditions and exciting journeys cited on this book that i hope i can learn more someday.
