Stone Cold

Rate this book
One abduction. One life. One killer. No escape. Bereavement counsellor Kathryn Stone is given her first Great Falls Detective Scott Griffin, a former soldier suffering from the early stages of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Kathryn shadows the troubled detective as he delves into a bizarre case, a woman kidnapped for a ransom that her abductors must surely know she cannot pay. As the case deepens and Kathryn struggles to help the decent and honourable Griffin, so she begins to question the man with whom she shares her life and what secrets lay beyond his lies and deception. As the abduction case throws light on the lives of Griffin, Stone and those around them, it becomes clear that the abduction is only one part of a wider campaign by a murderous serial killer, and that any one of them could be guilty. Stranded in a small town, stories are uncovered of forlorn lives all of them wish they could walk away from and start again somewhere else, anywhere else, before they find themselves at the hands of a killer who has no identity and can walk into any life he chooses... REVIEW Praise for Dean "The fossilized remains of a 7,000-year-old creature dug from the sands of the Negev Desert in Israel become the bones of contention in Dean Crawford's fast-paced debut thriller... The book neatly threads together a wild variety of plotlines." - Wall Street Journal “… cleverly introduced premise… assured pacing and plotting…” - Publishers Weekly “The action is frenetic, in the vein of Matthew Reilly’s Scarecrow series. Crawford is an able storyteller who smoothly orchestrates the plot’s twists and turns… ” – Kirkus Reviews “… brilliant high-concept, high-octane thriller….” - The Guardian "A fast-paced and entertaining yarn." - Melbourne Age "Partly mythical read, part thriller this pacy tale is a page turner guaranteed to keep you up late." - The Sun "Get the cameras rolling—Indiana Jones meets Alien. What a combination of mystery, suspense, and unspeakable horror. I loved it!" - R.L. Stine “This is an amazingly good, intelligently told novel by an exciting new British author.” - Eurocrime "Earth-shattering intrigue, hyperdrive action and a desperate race to save humanity, cranked up to the max with scarily realistic science and apocalyptic religion thrown in for good measure . . . a major new talent has hit the mystery thriller scene!" - Scott Mariani ABOUT THE AUTHOR Dean Crawford began writing after his dream of becoming a fighter pilot in the Royal Air Force was curtailed when he failed their stringent sight tests. His Ethan Warner series of high-concept novels have regularly featured on the Sunday Times paperback bestseller list and have sold all over the world. A full-time author, he lives with his partner and daughter in Surrey.

Gripped me to the end

This was a thoroughly enjoyable story of betrayal, greed, duplicity and dreaming. I loved that all of the stories and stories within stories seemed to have a logical and perhaps ethical foundation and then even that is removed - wonderful

Another winner

Another winner from Dean Crawford. I think that these characters would be the basis for a really gripping series of books.

Highly Recommended

What a fantastic novel.
Two different stories, going on at the same time, till they finally merge with a great and exciting finish.
But wait, just when you think the story is over, an amazing form of events, takes place, which leaves you shaking your head, of what you have just absorbed.
