About the author

Various is the correct author for any book with multiple unknown authors, and is acceptable for books with multiple known authors, especially if not all are known or the list is very long (over 50).

If an editor is known, however, Various is not necessary. List the name of the editor as the primary author (with role "editor"). Contributing authors' names follow it.

This is among the best volumes yet of Fantagraphics’ ongoing Now comics anthology. While this volume leans more than usual on established talent rather than on emerging cartoonists, every comic in this batch is worth reading.

I'm always on the lookout for something new and interesting. This anthology of short stories has the new, but not so much with the interesting.

Like the other issues of Fantagraphics’ quarterly publication Now #8, this issue is a great anthology of innovative, boundary pushing comics from artists all over the world, including work from up and comers as well as newcomers to the form. These collections feature a shifting palate of styles, tones, and genres, from the abstract to the meticulous, memoir to the surreal, while some I found jarring, some unsettling, all sparked my imagination, and a few inspired me to look for more of the author's work. 8, for instance, contains a strong piece by Noah Van Sciver, who has been published in other issues, but also the eerie work of Veronika Muchitsch’s “I, Keira,” and Maggie Umber’s “The Intoxicated.” You never really know what to expect, but you’ll know it’ll be interesting.

I'm looking forward to checking out Henry McCausland's Eight-Lane Runaways after reading the story "Garden Boys" from this issue.
