The year is 1996 and three teenagers are driving along a dusty road on their way to the bank. The sixteen year old girl is behind the steering wheel while her two friends are getting ready to rob the bank. They are good kids, but one of them is about to be shot. Their lives will never be the same again. Michiel TerHaar is responding to a bank robbery and the year is 2016. He is the captain in charge and the call comes The snipers have a clear view. They can take the robber out. But when he sees what they see, he freezes. “Hold your shot, I’m going in!” An hour later he emerges from the bank, the robber had escaped and Michiel’s career will pay for that mistake. But no one will ever understand. He simply had no choice.
I really liked this author previous novels and was excited to see the latest - Once bitten.
Once bitten - My rating 4.5 **** The story follows mainly two brothers reunited after years, where a tragic incident left them on separate sides of the law. The location setting of KZN - Durban is very well described and I was transported to The beach and could smell the ocean air.
As for the crime thriller section - it's full of action. Bank robbery, Chinese Triad, Money laundering, shootouts and unreadable hacking. There is no lack in action and drama. There is even a bit of romance in the mix.
I would recommend The story of Danie and Michiel as a definite must read. True reflection of brotherhood, friendships and relationships.
