Kingdom of Runes #2

Curse Breaker

Rate this book
All magic has a price.

Haven survived the Devourers, but she isn’t any closer to breaking the curse. Meanwhile, her forbidden magic rages brighter and more dangerous every day.

To control her powers and stand a chance against the Shade Queen, Haven made a bargain with two enemy immortals. Now her waking hours are spent fighting alongside the Sun Lord, but her dreams belong to the Shade Lord.

Only the closer she ventures into the wicked Shadow Kingdom the more her magic shows itself—and the more she struggles with whom to trust. The golden but wounded Sun Lord or the darkly charismatic Shade Lord.

Both are off-limits.

And both have the ability to save her . . . or destroy her.

With the Shade Queen closing in and Bell’s time nearly up, Haven will sacrifice everything to break the curse—but will it be enough to stop the mortal realm from falling into darkness forever?

Welcome to the Kingdom of Runes where immortals and humans clash, light and dark magic reign, and mythical creatures lurk in the shadows.

Curse Breaker was previously published in the boxed set Shattered Worlds. This is a revised second edition.

I guess this series just isn't for me, so I won't continue it.
2 stars.

"Stabbing things that needed stabbing was easy; understanding how to navigate the heart was so much harder."

Honestly, if you like Sarah J. Maas, I feel like you might expect more from a fantasy book than this. The authors attempt at foreshadowing just revealed the whole plot for me, long before things happened, which was a real disappointment. And both the MC and most of the secondary characters bugged me so much throughout the book. I feel like the same things happened over and over again, and the characters would make the same stupid mistakes again and again..
Only thing that made me finish this book was Stolas, but the "light and darkness/good and bad" romance is a story already told millions of times, and I feel like other stories are better so it won't be enough for me to continue the series.
Welp..

“Stop longing to be less, Haven, and accept that you are more. Stop apologizing for the fire inside you. Instead, burn and burn like the sun until you set the world ablaze.”

The best ACOTAR fanfic I’ve read.

I actually loved this book and it’s not a rip off of A Court of Thorns and Roses. More like a loving homage.

Team Stolas

Is that still a thing? Did I unintentionally age myself?

LOVED IT! This took every thing from the first one and brought it up a notch.

SPOILERS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Okay, so before I was really bugged with Haven. I wanted her to tell everyone about her dreams and her bargain with Stolas, but she kept it a secret! I hate when characters do things like this, but Grey took it a different way and I liked that.

I am still really confused about her relationship with Stolas. I mean, does she feel attracted to him. I mean she did almost call out his name, but I don't understand their relationship at all and it hurts because I like her with Archeron and Stolas. But if this ends up being some love triangle I am not going to be happy! Also, is Archeron married? I thought he was just betrothed? I don't like her being some side thing. Even if that's "allowed". I hope that I am wrong.

Also, bell kind of annoys. He is just such a blah character. I was finding myself skipping his parts. I mean, everything about his story was Beauty and the Beast and I didn't like it.

Also, I don't know where she is taking the Bjorn thing. I mean you saw that coming a mile away. He foresaw that another would die (which you knew was Rook, bc she was acting shifty the night before) and one would betray, which was Bjorn. But I think he knew the whole time that this was the only way. I don't necessarily blame him because the curse was broken, so it is not like he didn't anything against them because he knew it was going to work out. And maybe if Rook had lived there would have been a problem, or he really can't say anything about someone dying (some law or whatever).

Also, Rook's death seemed a bit lackluster, I didn't get much sympathy for her. Although I loved that their love story was very Lady Hawk. Love that movie.

I knew that Archeron was going to use his wish on Haven, but I don't see why he is so grieved about it. Can't he just kill the king (maybe he can't) but can't Haven? Or take the ring that controls him. I mean, the king kind of deserves it.

The point is, I cannot wait until the next one comes out! I am so glad that it is February, because even that seems too long to wait! Although, I looked at the synopsis on it and it made me nervous. For one, there is more Bell (which is boring) and for another it doesn't technically mention Archeron being there with her. I don't like them being a part. Lets cross our fingers and hope for the best for the King Maker!

Rereading the series in anticipation of Dark Bringer!

This series is a lot of fun. In Curse Breaker we learn more about the Noctis, especially Stolas as Haven attempts to train with her magic. This book is also much more focused on actually breaking the curse now that our gang of misfits are in the Shadow Kingdom.

I loved the expansion of character development we got in all the characters. All of the main players are fleshed out even more and developed. There's also a bit of heartbreak in this book and I was NOT ready for it. I vaguely remembered it but still I wasn't happy.

The first time I read this I jumped ship immediately, but there was no ship to jump this time around. While Haven and Archeron have sexual tension or something I just don't like them together. Mainly because I don't like Archeron one bit. So I am all for Haven and Stolas forever.

I do still have some questions as to how exactly the curse was broken, because it seemed like one piece was missing but hopefully that will be addressed in the next book! Overall, really enjoyed this one, even better than the first!

Rep: female MC w/ PTSD, BIPOC achillean (gay coded) male MC, side WLW couple, achillean blind male side character, achillean male side character. BIPOC side character, can't remember who it was but they were described as having dark skin like Bell.

CWs: Blood, death, injury/injury detail, mental illness (PTSD), violence. Moderate: past mentions of child abuse, child death, torture and slavery; past mentions of suicidal thoughts and suicide attempt; cursing, gaslighting, sexism.

4.5/5

I really enjoyed Oath Taker, but Curse Breaker was even better!! I really need King Maker, aghhh.

Haven is no closer to breaking the curse, but she now has allies. Archeron Halfbane and band of Solis have become Haven's friends and they are all determined to break the curse. But Haven spends her nights in a dreamworld with Stolas, the Shade Lord. He teaches her about her magics and how to use them. With time running out, Haven becomes more desperate to save Bell.

I love Archeron, but listen, I jumped ship SO HARD. I need Haven and Stolas to have something. ANYTHING PLEASE. Or even a poly relationship would be fine, BUT THEY MUST BE TOGETHER. I will legitimately go down with Haven x Stolas's ship. I got some Feyre/Rhysand vibes so hard and agh I LOVE THEM. Also the tormented bad boy with a past trope will get me every damn time.

I loved seeing Haven work with her magic and I just love her dammit. She's so feisty and determined to do everything her way. I love her strength and her loyalty to Bell. Also the Beauty & the Beast retelling vibes I got were FOR REAL and I loved it!! I am so tormented and distraught for Bell and everything he went through. I really hope he'll come out of his ordeal stronger than ever.

The ending had several stressful reveals, and I have no doubt book 3 is going to be even more crazy!

Curse Breaker is the second installment in the Kingdom of Runes series. There's just something about these books (so far) that makes them very easy to fly through. Even though I wanted answers to my previous questions, I feel like I just got even more questions than answers. Maybe I'll get some in the next book?

Haven and her powers are very intriguing. Don't even get me started on her dreams or anything else because I could go on and on. The only thing I wanted to happen was for her secret to come out. Like tell someone girl because it's frustrating to see her keep it all inside. I'm not sure if something is going to happen and the secret will eventually come out.. but I will patiently wait for it all to go down.

Other than that, I was pretty iffy with the romance in the beginning but then it got better. Well, a little bit because I'm getting triangle love vibes and I'm not a huge fan of those. Then there's Bell, and I was so freaking worried about him for most of this book. I'm still digging the beauty and the beast vibes but I'm just wanting a bit more.

In the end, I wasn't expecting a certain death because it just kind of felt random to me. Not sure what is going to happen next but I'm super excited for adventure!

I found myself getting into this second book way faster than the first one, thankfully and enjoyed the constant flow of action that kept the story moving. But...look...I still have problems.

Dear lord, how many times did Haven almost die? I lost count and it got annoying how many times she needed saving. I get it. She's a mortal, she's human, she's not like the Solis or Noctis, but damn. It just got plain ridiculous. I admire her courage and her drive to keep going on despite having so many close calls, but it was really uncalled for.

My second complaint falls with the freaking romance in this book. I know it was implied Archeron had feelings for Haven in the end of the last book and even though I couldn't really see it, I was fine with it because he was in the denial stage. So I was figuring we would get some slow burn, or at least semi-slow burn between them where he struggled accepting his feelings towards her. In this book, that picks up literally right where the last one left off? He's all over Haven right from the start. He's suddenly in love with her. He accepts his feelings without any more denial or hesitance. Fawning over her. Touching her. Being gentle with her. Dare I say, he even acted a little out of character at times. And Haven! Ugh. She was all over the place with her feelings. At first, I had RESPECT for her because she didn't like or approve of the idea of hooking up with someone who was already married and had affections for his wife (he even said this himself--to HAVEN!). But that quickly switched to "well, I shouldn't be happy because Bell is miserable but yeah, Archeron's hot and has seen me naked" To finally "Archeron, me, want sex. Its tru wuv and I want every part of him."

I just...can't. I can't believe that Haven is okay with being the side woman. I can't. Because I know I wouldn't. And I can assure you that most other woman wouldn't. And I swear, I better not see any of that Solis BS of having "Two soul mates; one to help you become strong and one to teach you to love" for any future crap between this little love triangle I see. I will be so mad. Who says ONE soul mate can't do BOTH of those things?? Do not use this as an excuse to have Haven jump back and forth between Archeron and Stolas or so help me...

Also, while we're on relationships, what the hell was up with Bell and the Creature??

Le sighs. Okay, now onto my favorite scene in this book.

I NEED BOOK 3!!!

First off, I’ve been waiting for this book for weeks now. I reread the first book yesterday so I would remember everything I needed to know in order to read this book. While reading the first book, I realized how much I liked the Shade Lord. He’s my fav. I like the Sun Lord, but don’t think he’s endgame.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

*R U SURE U WANT TO DO THIS???*

*OK HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS*

The only critique I have for this book is that I wanted more scenes with the Shade Lord. If he’s going to be endgame it was hard for me to read scenes with Archeron and Haven cause I was like, “this isn’t going to last.” I am kind of upset Haven and Archeron are together right now. I loved the scene where she says Stolas while the Sun Lord and Haven are getting frisky. I feel like that is a clear sign that the Shade Lord and Haven are meant to be, right????? They were talking about how they are two steps away from completing the mating ritual, that must be foreshadowing something. Overall, I need the third book. I need more Shade Lord. Now.

1.5 stars

I'm reading the reviews for this book and apparently, almost everyone found Curse Breaker AMAZING, but I guess this is the end for me. The first book of this series was not that impressive and I hoped that maybe the second book would have a better storyline, more complex characters, or a more complete world-building, the second book does not have any of these things, it was even worse than Oath Taker.

I was just expecting more of everything from this series. The world-building is very basic. There is a big map at the beginning of the book, but we know nothing of this world or its story. We only know that there is a curse that needs to be broken and that some Solis have decided that it was their mission to do it. Who exactly are the Solis? What is their story? We do not really know anything except the basics. I had a hard time understanding what was the deal about the curse and the curse's price, some information were scattered here and there, but I just had to accept the fact that everything was happening for some reason that I would never really understand. Just as I would never really know what the motivations or histories of the characters were.

Talking about the characters, they are quite bland and simple, I did not grow attached to any of them, they were all too cliché. There was also the wannabe love triangle between Stolas, Haven, and Archeron..? I am not sure if the goal was to create a spicy and complex situation for Haven, but it completely failed. The same thing can be said for Bjorn's visions... I think the author tried to create a mystery and even some tension since it was said that Haven would die along with another member of the group, a third member would fall in love and a fourth would betray them, but it was soooooo predictable. I knew all along who would do what because the characters were so simple and shallow.

It was basically the same things happening again and again: find a piece of the curse price (quite easily I must say, they knew exactly where to look every time), Haven almost dying (but being saved at the last second and still managing to acquire the piece) and the group moving on to the next step. No surprise, no plot twist, no big obstacles. The relationship between Haven and Archeron was evolving in hiccups. They hate each other but she finds him irresistible than Archeron suddenly realizes that he cannot live without Haven and they are full of lust, then they fight and ignore each other, then they almost have sex every other chapter or so, then they stop (Archeron is really a mean tease)... I usually love these love-hate relationships, but this one was poorly built.

So this is it for this series. I will definitely not continue.

This was just as enjoyable as the first. Haven and all the gang are still on their quest to break the curse and save Bell. Stolas makes a few appearances, and it's clear there is something between Haven and him, even if she doesn't really acknowledge it. Archeron is still his magnificent self and appears to have strong, genuine feelings for Haven...which may be just a little stronger than Haven's are for him, only time will tell there. Rook and Surai are still badass and two of my favorites. Bell and The Creature start to develop a friendship of sorts. More truths are revealed and we finally get to meet with the Shade Queen and her dead/undead daughter around which this whole curse business revolves. I actually really like where things leave off, even though there are some sad turns and losses along the way. I'm excited to see what the 3rd book has in store!

Y’all, I am so conflicted.

Okay, so what did I like better about the second installment in the Kingdom of Runes series…

The pacing in this book was a big improvement over the first book for me. While the story still meanders a bit, there weren’t many points at which I felt bored, aside from some of Bell’s chapters which is honestly due more so to him not being a character I care too much about. I also felt less overwhelmed with the world-building in this book, though I will say there are still several things I felt I never got any clarity on, namely The Curse; I just don’t feel like the parameters of The Curse were ever fully explained, unless I’m dumb and just totally missed that which is quite possible. There’s alot going on in this series, OKAY?!

One other thing I particularly appreciated about Curse Breaker was getting the backstories for characters like Stolas and Archeron.
Mostly Stolas.
Just Stolas.
And while I’m on the subject of Stolas… HAVEN CALLING OUT HIS NAME DURING STEAMY-STEAMY TIME WITH ARCHERON?! Yes, love it. Give me all the drama, please and thank you.

But now let’s shift focus to Archeron and Haven…

Pardon my French, but what in the ever-living-fuck? Full disclosure: I’ve seen the fanart, I know Haven and Stolas get together in some capacity, and while the final book isn’t out for a few more months and I know literally zero of what happens in the third and fourth book, I’m just assuming they’re endgame. But why are Haven and Archeron even a thing?! I was under the assumption that maybe this was leading to some kind of deception by Archeron, but then his “love” went and broke The Curse, so what gives? Let me back track and say the reason I’m so against this couple is that it’s just classic insta-love. I said it in my review for Oath Taker: the sudden change of heart in Archeron makes seriously no sense. We never saw Haven and Archeron bond in a deep enough way to make him care for her all of sudden, especially not to the degree of, when we start Curse Breaker, Archeron goes 0-60 in his attraction to Haven and consequential flirting. Just… what? And honestly, this whole Haven-Archeron thing wouldn’t annoy me so much if Curse Breaker didn’t put such a heavy emphasis on it. In reality though, a good chunk of this book was devoted to steamy times between the two, and several times I found myself quite seriously saying “ew” out loud while reading.

I’m sorry, I just can’t. I loathe insta-love with a passion, and Archeron as a whole just rubs me the wrong way. Something is off about him, mark my words.

All the insta-love aside, but also kind of on the same note, one thing that particularly made me uncomfortable in this book was the overall treatment of Bell’s “romance” and the killing-off of two gay characters. Starting with Bell, I was so excited for some LGBTQ+ representation in him being that he’s one of our two main POVs. However, the “romance” between Bell and Renault was disappointing in that it felt inauthentic and, again, was definitely a case of insta-love. I’m holding out hope that this is remedied in the future books, and that Bell finds his someone, in addition to he himself just being more fleshed out as a character. But what makes me nervous about the hope of a lasting romance for Bell is that Grey really took the opportunity to kill off not one, but two individuals who were in same-sex couples in this book. TWO. I don’t know, I found this wildly disheartening as a reader.

Now, I will be continuing onto the third book, but I have to say that it will be with a bit of pessimism that I didn’t carry into Curse Breaker when I started. I’m as curious as ever to see where this story and the characters are going, especially given some of the issues I had with this book. I’m also intrigued by the addition of Nasira to the mix as I really can’t tell whether she’s going to annoy the crap out of me or be super fun in the next book. Either way, I know I’m gonna need some Stolas-Nasira scenes because I’m an absolute sucker for the snarky bad boys going soft over those they care about. And while we’re at it, I’m gonna need some more Stolas in general.

3.5 stars!

This series gives new meaning to "slow burn".

World:
Becomes a bit more clear, although there is still murky water. My way of saying there is still a bit too much in the world to get a firm grasp. 3 Star

Storyline:
Picks up where we left off. Grey does make some good progress is the story telling. This aspect is not as congested as I found book one. 3 Star

FMC:
In the end of this read, Haven makes so spectacular progress. The gain in power she receives has me looking forward to book 3. There is still some aggravating mystery around her which I feel is being drug out a bit. Not much is revealed about her past still. 3.5 Stars.

MC:
Somewhat defined now....maybe. At this point Archeron appears to me a budding MC, but I mean this is barely a bud. We got some pecks here and there but still ZERO bow-chica-wow-wow. He is defined much better in Curse Breaker. Fortunately, this ends with me feeling more of a connection to the series as a whole. 3 Star

My Choice for MC:
Stolas....alas the bad boy of the book, seems to be out of the running to my utter dismay. Now this guy I get 100% and I am digging him. Scary, possessive (on the DL), and protective he by far the sexiest being thus far. But no lovin for him either *sigh* 4 star

Seriously, I feel like I am in a bad relationship at this moment but I keep going back for more. I am bewildered at my behavior. But screw it .... on to book 3!!

Happy reading,
DD💕

”Stop apologizing for the fire inside you. Instead, burn and burn like the sun until you set the world ablaze.”

Remember when I said I was tired of love triangles? Well this book is exactly why. Every time Haven was with Stolas, I shipped them HARD! I never wanted her to wake up and be away from him. Then every time she was with Archeon, I shipped them HARD and I never wanted her away from him. Not knowing who to pick is tiring I tell ya! Haha

This book was impossible to put down, and I got even more TOG vibes from it again. I don’t mean in a plagiarism type way, but it definitely seemed like the author was somewhat inspired by SJM maybe?

Haven and her decisions made me see red a few times and I honestly thought I might scream. She’d make the terrible choices and then feel horrible later. It wasn’t too bad but it happened enough for it to frustrate me!!

The magic, world building and plot were even better than book one and there were a couple plot twists and “wooooow” moments I wasn’t expecting.

*** 4.5 STARS ***

Curse Breaker starts straight where Oath Taker left us, with Haven looking for the vorgrath in the forest, the first element needed to break the curse and save Bell. And from here you feel you don’t relax a single second, so many things happening! I couldn’t stop turning pages and every time I had to deal with real-life I was just thinking about going back to read.

The characters kept growing on me, especially the female characters. Haven still needed a lot of saving but she is getting stronger and I love how brave and protective she is. Surai and Rook were great side characters and examples of strong women. I can’t wait to see Bell being more independent and fighting for himself. Archeron is also growing on me and I hope he gets what he desires in the next book as his story really made me sad for him. And of course, Stolas! The broody and mysterious character. I would have loved to see more of him.

One of the other things I love about this series is the world-building which fascinates me and we learn many new things: more history, more creatures and more magic.

There are some emotional scenes, I was very sad about some characters’ fate so definitely, this book won’t leave you indifferent. Sacrifices, betrayals, secrets...

I have to say some of the clues were easy to decipher, which made some of the events predictable and the impact would have been so much higher if the premonitions had been more cryptic. Also, I have the feeling that I am not going to be happy about the love triangle resolution as the romance in this book already felt lacking at some points. The next book will tell though and I cannot wait to head into King Maker and find out what is happening next!

You’re telling me the third installment isn’t even out yet?!?!??!?!?

Well, I really really enjoyed this!!! I really liked where the author took the plot and I truly have absolutely no clue what to expect from the third book when it’s released, but OMG I CANNOT WAIT!

This book really did it for me. There was a good plot that kept me interested, romance, AND we learned more about these characters and the worlds history! I also did actually really enjoy getting the split points of view from both Haven as well as Bell. I think Bell’s storyline was actually really interesting (although very predictable at times). I liked the new relationship we got to see build between Bell and the Creature, although I did find some parts a little random at times. I think that the main plot with Haven was a good extension to the plot set up in the first book and I’m definitely excited to see where it goes! (I will say though, I feel like the events in Curse Breaker feel a lot like an ending book, but I guess we will se how this series manages to continue?).

Now for the romance. I was anticipating to get more romance in this book and we definitely got it! I really loved Haven and Archeron’s relationship developing throughout this book. I will say however, I do think there was a really big jump between the end of the first book setting up a potential romance, to Archeron instantly being in love with Haven. I also felt as though a lot of their romance scenes felt a little repetitive in the sense that they all started and ended pretty much the same. Despite that, I did really enjoy their relationship and am intrigued to how they end up. (Ps, I don’t really think this book should be classified as a young adult as there is definitely adult content in this book!).

NOW STOLAS!!!! This boy really climbed his way up my list of favorite characters in this series!!! I absolutely loved seeing more into his past and learning more about him as a character. Part of my lowkey wants him and Haven to get together, but I mustn’t betray my love of Archeron. We also BETTER SEE STOLAS AGAIN IN THIS NEXT BOOK!!!!

Overall, I think was a nice satisfying sequel to this series, and I can’t wait for the third book to be released so I can jump right back into this world!

I received an early copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Let me start by saying that I loved Oath Taker, but somehow Audrey Grey was able to make Curse Breaker one of those rare sequels that ended up better than the original. This series is full of magic, romance, betrayal, and more.

We continue the story as Haven, Archeron, and the rest of their gang continue to end up at death's door and try to break the curse. Haven begins to enjoy her little crew that she never thought she would. And she realizes she has feelings for Archeron. I love me an enemies to lovers and a slow burn and this is the slowest of burns! I'm very curious to see how this plays out!

We read alternating POVs from Haven and from Bell. From Bell we see more of the Noctis and learn more about the castle and the curse. And from Haven we see the Sun Lord and his friends, Stolas as he teaches her how to use her dark and light magic, and of course more of the intriguing land and all of the creatures that inhabit it.

The pacing on these books is very fast which makes them a great quick read, and after finishing book two I am DYING for book 3 because 😱😱 that ending!

I highly recommend this series!

Wow! So I read the original Curse Breaker book, before it was rebranded and dramatically expanded and I have to say that I love this series more than I originally did. It's written beautifully and the characters are so dynamic it becomes easy to imagine them as completely real.
I've had trouble writing a review because a series this gorgeous and well written deserves more than "I love it! It's so amazing" but it's hard to put my feelings for it into words. Everything I write seems lackluster and dim when compared to the brilliant, shining gem that Audrey has created. This is the type of book you loose yourself in only to resurface completely disoriented by the reality of your surroundings. This is the type of book that gives you tingles, tears, fear, and hope but don't forget about the insatiable curiosity to know more about the world Haven lives in. Everything about this book and this series is stunning. I can't wait to continue the series and learn so much more about every aspect of this world that I can.

Stolas was the star of the book for me. He must be protected at all costs. And I'm officially announcing it he's my person.

Well this was interesting. I loved the idea of the creatures and how they came about in the book. I liked the good vs evil and all the back stories within the book. this is defiantly an underrated book and i think more people should read it. The world that was created was amazing.

My New Favorite Series!!!!

So o.k., this is the 2nd book in series and suffers from absolutely none of the dreaded second book syndrome, if anything, it's even better than the first. There are so many twists, turns and betrayals, and none I saw coming, it was soooooo good. There's a few storylines going on, all intertwining and each outstanding. My jaw dropped in some of the chapters, and i was like, no way, holy crap type moments that you need to take a breath. The characters continue to grow and the world grows creepier, and I mean parts of this world are nightmarish, scary, get me the hell out now. More is at stake and there's so very much to lose. I cannot possibly convey how FREAKING GOOD this is, it's become my new favorite series and I'm ready to continue with book 3, which is already out and waiting for me. If you love good fantasy, this is not to be missed. Read it, read it read it!!! I would suggest starting with the first book, your not going to want to miss a word of this, pinky swear!!!

Ohh this was such a good follow up book to book one! I almost wish this was book one with how much I enjoyed it! I loved the pacing, it was constantly action packed, and the twist at the end I didn't see coming. Can't wait to start book 3!

I once read that putting characters through life and death situations 24/7 without a moment of rest can be tiresome for a reader. I really felt that in this book. Action back to back and I am a lover of action and excellent fight scenes but what else could have been shown?

Character consistency is also important and that just wasn’t showing in this book.

Archeron was a literal and convincing asshole in Book 1, and I expected this to carry over a bit more in book 2. However, golden boy did a complete 180, and went from hateful, raging bull, to I wanna kiss your neck? Becoming immediately possessive? You don’t worry about a thing Haven, I will protect you (even though she’s been capable her entire life to do JUST that)

Each time a scene like this came up I would break the fourth wall and ask no one in particular, “How did we get here?”

I would’ve loved to see him slowly warming up to her. And she to him. Not him ready to jump her bones at every second and get all moody once she changed her mind about something.

This book is claimed to be similar to SJM’s ACOMAF series and I found that incredibly tiresome because it is indeed similar. Down to the characters and the way they are unfolding. I’m looking at you Archeron and Stolas.

Predictability for a series can be fun to guess what will take place but I was able to guess what would happen very easily. For example, I’m gonna take a not so wild guess, and predict that Haven will undoubtedly end up with Stolas and that Archeron will become that vengeful asshole yet again.

4 stars because I’m only here for Stolas now. And maybe Bellamy. And maybe another Vorgrath raising vengeful hell.

Ebook provided by the author in exchange of an honest review.

We left Haven, Archeron and Stolas in Oathtaker, the first fighting for her life (at the beginning of cursebreaker she is almost dead by a Vorgrath attack), the second wondering about Haven’s whereabouts and the last one contemplating the void. Rook is still dying and Surai is staying by her side and Bjorn is still seeing things. I would say we started good! We finally see Archeron worried over Haven, we have a glimpse of his emotions and we learn that solis have to keep back their deepest anger, so they do not destruct everything.
Haven trains with Stolas in her dreams (they made a pact in the first book, which included her being trained).

I can’t say a lot without spoiler, but let me tell you that this is a perfect sequel, it was even better: more adventure, more romance (yay!), more everything. Few things that were left unsolved in the first book finally got answered.

I loved this book, I wish I had the sequel right now!

Final vote: 5/5 ☆

Quote: stop longing to be less, Haven, and accept that you are more. Stop apologizing for the fire inside you. Instead, burn and burn like the sun until you set the world ablaze.

This series is definitely not for me, and I might have tried too hard to see something redeemable here bc I sure as hell can't find shit.

I wasn't sure if I was gonna find that this was a reverse harem, it hasn't turned into one yet which is promising to be honest. I find Haven okay, she does the same mistakes over and over, and doesn't really learn which is super annoying for me.
The two love interest Solas and Archeron just does NOTHING for me at this moment and the thing with two soul things - one to love you and one to make you stronger just had me like ? ? ? okay boo
This book also seems to be out to kill off their gay characters and truly it feels like a bury your gays situation here. Why add gay couples or people that are so fucking close to falling for each other and then killing them??? BOTH TIMES? dear GOD
Also this has to be lowkey an ACOTAR fanfic, I'm not mad about it - it just could have gone a better way with it. I'm not reading the next book.
