Table rase: Le Drift #2

Rate this book

Susan lives out on the Canadian west coast surrounded by open water, dear family and good friends. She’s jumped out of perfectly good airplanes on purpose and accidentally swum with sharks on the Great Barrier Reef. I read this as part of The Drift: Astek Station box set. This wasn't my favorite of the three books. There was more sex than story IMHO. I did like the cage fighting. 3 Cyborgs MFM.

I'm a huge sci-fi and am thrilled I found this series. It has the all the sci-fi you could ask for, plus the romance that is missing from my favourite shows.

“All In” by Susan Hayes is a fun sci-fi romance with a very alpha female and protective strong males who have all had rough pasts as soldiers in a useless corporate war. There are snippets of humor and sexiness throughout the story that were fabulous. I will never look at eating popcorn and watching a movie in the same way.

The descriptions of the outer regions of space called "The Drift", it's inhabitants, and the cyborgs are fascinating. The different skills that each cyborg is “gifted” makes them very different from regular humans, but they are still human. I felt like the main characters could be real and I felt their painful pasts and hope for the future.

I prepaid for this story and then received the advance reader copy so I could read it early. As usual, Ms Hayes has written a captivating sci-fi romance that I will read again in the future.

I was lucky to be gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is Cynders story who we met in book 1. Cynder meets Toro & Jaeger a pair of Cyborgs who are searching for a home within the area called the Drift, they had heard good things about the Nova Club and travel to check it out.

This story made me smile several times with the complete sweetness and love which come through from this Triad. It is not all roses and petals as emotional as well as past issues crop up but at this books heart is a beautiful story about love in all its forms. I liked this book more than book 1 which sets up the series, this has more depth as the author tells us more about this world and the people she has populated it with.

Yes I want more of this series, I thought this book was excellent.

The first book in this series introduced us to the cyborgs, human/machine hybrids who were created to be soldiers (or cannon fodder) by The Corporations in the Resource Wars. Most were created male, a few were created female but all were deemed expendable when the war ended. That was until the cyborgs revealed that they were sentient and had been for a while. Now that the war was over all they wanted was their freedom and their back pay, so they could each begin to live life on their own terms. And while many in the galaxy supported the cyborgs freedom to live their own lives, that did not mean they wanted a cyborg living down the street or even across town. Therefore, many cyborgs ended up in The Drift, the roughest edge of the known universe. It was an area where strength and money were valued and most beings there didn’t care who or what you were as long as you worked hard and quiet and didn’t cheat at cards or other games of chance.

We met Cynder in book #1 but in this book we get to know her much better. She is similar to her brother’s in a lot of ways, having been brought into this world in the same batch and having spent the whole war with them, living a similar purpose. But she is female and that has shaped her in ways that her brothers could never hope to understand. Toro and Jaeger are unknown to Cynder and her brothers and new to this section of the Drift. They had heard good things about Club Nova and the cyborgs who created it and now called it home. They came to The Drift looking for work and were both hoping it might be a place they could settle and feel comfortable, possibly even becoming home, something they had been chasing since the end of the war.

While the cyborgs were created in batches and some have exact genetic duplicates, each was programmed with specific talents or skills that made them unique. Due to these different skill sets, while these pairs - identical twins Kit & Luke or batch siblings Toro and Jaeger - may have spent the entire war side by side, each has experienced every moment differently. Once you add the variable of gender, comparing Cynder’s experiences and view of the war with either Kit’s or Luke’s, and you have larger, more painful, and unfortunately (not) surprising variations. These differing experiences and the roles they played in shaping each cyborg’s psyche and personality is only part of what makes them each unique and truly human.

This book went deeper into the psyches of the cyborgs Ms. Hayes has created, showing them as unique and individual beings. We’re also given more details surrounding their transformations from automaton-like automated soldiers (cannon fodder at the beginning of the war) to the sentient beings who fought for and were eventually granted their freedom and autonomy. We see how each of them has shaped their own world now that the decisions are finally theirs to make. And how they react facing issues that stem directly from when choices were taken away from each of them during the war.

Does Cynder take a chance and choose to let these two men into her circle of trust and even her heart? Or is she “damaged goods” and safer alone? Can Toro trust himself around another person or will his fears keep him from connecting with anyone else in any meaningful way? Can these three truly go “All In”?

Healing happens in its own time…

This is my second read of The Drift series and I’m really enjoying the storyline and the rhythm of these steamy and heart-touching ménage romances. Mix sci-fi, fantasy and a whole lot of lovin’ heat and you have a winning combination.

The Nova Club is owned by human-cyborgs who are carving out their own haven in an often-times intolerant universe. Cynder found her niche running the club and kicking b*tt when she felt the need. Toro and Jaeger were made for her as the gambler and fighter saw in her what they never dreamed for themselves. Until now…

From the most unique, steamy love scene ever, to the baring of their souls to one another, I loved the chemistry that drove their quick, yet well-paced relationship. Cynder was tough yet warm and Toro and Jaeger matched that and more. They were alphas yet sensitive and willing to put in the effort to win her over. They each had problems they struggled with, no one fought a war and came out not losing someone or something. There were hiccups along the way but the honesty between them felt so real and passionate. The feelings that grew between them came from shared experiences and recognizing kindred spirits… In my opinion, this genre is one the hardest to get right, and two books in, this series ‘gets it’…

*I happily reviewed this story

I'm on a major cyborg kick right now and this one hit the spot in SO MANY WAYS. Two sexy men bringing their A-game to the lady who fires them up? YES, PLEASE. I'd be down for just that, but the fact they're all cyborgs dials it up to awesome heights. (I seriously can't get enough of the cyborgs. MOAR PLEASE!)

I liked Toro and Jaeger. Toro's not the smoothest cyborg in the Drift and he has some self-esteem issues he needs to work out (stupid corporations and their stupid fiddling with cyborgs. Those guys can suck it!). Jaeger has confidence, but he's haunted by the lives he was forced to take during the war. Those two are sort of holding one another up and making things work, but it isn't until they cross paths with Cynder that they find their new purpose in life.

Buuuut, Cynder is a little gun-shy when it comes to romance and physicality. Like Jaeger, the things she was forced to do as a soldier haunt her. She's not interested in tangling with two hunky cyborgs even if they set her panties on fire. Or so she tells herself.

A bit of baggage, a little danger, and three hearts on the line. Cyborgs, man. I just love 'em.

Though this book can be read as a standalone, for the full reading enjoyment, I highly suggest reading Double Down first. As a side note: it's also an awesome book, so it's totally worth a read as well.

If you read Double Down, the you'll recognize our heroine as Kit and Luke's cyborg sister Cynder. She is an awesome, kick-ass, ex-sniper turned club owner who you just have to admire. I was happy to get to read her story after meeting her during her brother's book. If you like a woman who is both tough and tender, you're in the right place.

Toro and Jaeger (also cyborgs and brothers, though not twins) are an interesting pair as they are pretty much total opposites. Getting to see them interact and how close they were almost overshadowed the romance for me in terms of what made this book amazing. You can really tell Mrs. Hayes is going for a sense of family and camaraderie in the making with these books and she's doing a bang up job!

They're story isn't quite so...harrowing as Zura's and the twins' was, but there is still action, intrigue, and of course lots of romance and steam. You gotta read it!

I am a little pressed for time. I love Cynder's personality. She can play it cool if she needs to but she's as badass as they come & if you mess with her or her family she's gonna flatten ya! She owns the Nova Club with her batch brothers but has been keeping herself sort of distant from any relationships. She lost her twin in the war, & had been used as a plaything for all males. All female cyborgs had been given that one task for the most of it. So after they had all been set free, she stayed away from most men. Now 2 cyborgs have joined the club looking for work, trying to find their own place somewhere on the drift. She has taken a notice of them. They have decided to try to get her into their personal dating section. Toro is a fighter & Jaeger is a gambler. They have been together for a long time & probably always will. They both think she is the one, now they have to make her see that as well. All it takes are a few dates & some in room romps to get her to understand that they love her. She finally admits she loves them as well. It is a good book. It keeps you glued to the pages, aways turning wanting to know what will happen next.

Toro and Jaeger are two down on their luck cyborgs, who happen to run into Cynder Armas, one of the cyborg owners of the Nova bar on Astek Station in the drift.
Since she is everything they have ever wanted, the two are determined not to let her get away.

This is the second book in the series, and features a triad relationship. It is set approximately three months after the first book, and continues the story begun in that one. The overarching background story isn’t so prominent that this book can’t be read as a standalone, it CAN. The romance in it is complete, and there are no cliffhangers. There is an unresolved background plot, but it was very loosely involved with the main characters.

This is a good series, bringing an interesting futuristic world where corporations create cyborg armies to life.
Recommended for those who enjoy sci-fi romance, and don’t mind it spicy!

I've never fully embraced the menage' thing, though I'm honest enough to admit that as long as it's two guys to one girl it's fun to read. There is a cynical part of me that sits back and wonders how long the relationship lasts once the euphoria of new passion wears off and the human ego starts coming into play. However, in this setting and situation I can fully believe it working out. Mostly because of the Cyborgs, by their very nature sharing a love makes perfect sense.
Susan Hayes has created an ever growing and developing world and peopled it with some amazing characters, that and her talent in writing believable romance have made me devour this series in a binge read.
Fan's of Anna Hackett, Aya Morningstar, Anna Carven, Ruby Lionsdrake and even Celia Kyle will enjoy this series.

Toro and Jaeger are left overs from the The Resource Wars. Created to fight they have been given full citizenship status but have yet to find a home where they feel safe. Cinder Armas runs the Nova Club and welcomes cyborgs. This is a familiar theme but Hayes makes it seem fresh and new. This is erotica but with a story line outside the sex. There are some very interesting side characters and the location, The Drift, is very well presented. This is book two, I have not read book one but this held up well as a stand-alone.

Another enjoyable romance in this series.
Cynder is a female cyborg who is co-owner of a bar with two of her batch mates. She does the books and runs the fights (sometimes fighting herself).

Toro and Jaeger are male cyborgs. Toro has signed up to fight and Jaeger is a professional gambler.

Cynder holds herself back from love because her former obedience programming meant she couldn't ever say no to sex. She's also missing her twin, who was killed in battle.

They deal with a nasty drug cartel as well as the trauma of the past as they find love together.

I thought that this was a great story!

I read this book as part of the box set that contained the first three books and wow!

They all had great storylines that were well developed and they kept me on my toes.

The characters were well developed with brilliant personalities and I love finding out more about them.

I thought that it great overall – it had romance, action and was a sexy book to read too

It is 5 stars from me for each of the books (1-3) – the books were all fantastic and would definitely recommend!

AUDIOBOOK edition

I think I liked this story even better than book 1. Short but entertaining.
Toro and Jaeger are so lovable and perfect for Cynder. Their relationship evolves quite rapidly but not without bumps. Their each deal with the effects of their time in the war and as they get to know one another they also heal each other. - 4 stars
I enjoyed listening to Ms. Wilder's narration again, she has a warm voice with the right pitch for each character and emotion. - 4 stars

So I kept bouncing between this and another book depending on where I was (or if someone was reading over my shoulder).

It was alright.

I think Cynder felt too weak a character given how badass she was supposed to be.

I also still get wigged out by batch siblings and sexy times.

Also it very much felt like the Toro and Cynder book and Jaeger took a backseat to most of it. We really didn't see much of his POV at all.

Good sci-fi/cyborg romance book. Toro and Jaeger are tough men, but they're so sweet and perfect for Cynder, who needs to feel loved and wanted. I really enjoyed this book and would love to read more of the series! It's steamy and full of heat and adventure! I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

This is one fine story that seriously takes some getting used to it. Jaeger, Toro and Cynder are Cyborgs, created to fight each other during the times of war. It's been the first book of this Cyborg-theme and i could hardly get into the story. It's very good written, so that made it a lot easier, but it's nevertheless a kind of topic I not particularly need a repeat of...

Loved the relationship between Toro and Cyn. It felt authentic, like they had a real connection. Jaeger just felt like an extra. I found myself wishing Dana would come back from the dead to claim him.

This might just be me not really being in to the whole MFM troupe, but it’s how i felt through most of the Book.

I absolutely loved the characters, but my favorites were Cyn and Toro

The men felt interchangeable in this installment, and I never felt like I remembered who was who. The drama between the three of them came out of left field and didn’t make sense for the character development. I still really enjoy the small details that make The Drift a unique and interesting world, but this book wasn’t my favorite.

Two damaged cyborg "brothers" meet damaged female cyborg and they all get together. This wasn't terrible and the back story seemed fairly interesting but it was just really boring and I couldn't get into the romance.

This is a story about 3 misfits finding each other and forgiving themselves. They all have there own baggage that graggs them down. When they find each other they build each other up. Good read.

This was a wonderful continuation of this world. I thought the further development of the characters we got glimpses of in the last book was wonderful. The fact that The characters have issues stemming from their past in a believable way was appreciated. I'm quite tired of characters with tragic pasts and no baggage.

It's a bit clunky in places like the first book, but not enough to ruin the book. The plot and fun scenes are well done. I look forward to continuing with this series.
