Fever Falls #3

Whiskey Throttle

Rate this book
Lincoln
I’ve done a good job getting over my past. I’m not only proud of who I am, but revel in it. Still, I don’t let myself get too close to people. With closeness comes questions and those pesky feelings, and I’m having none of that. I’ve got a great job, friends, I’m cute and twinky, and my bed’s never empty. What more do I need? Except I can’t stop sleeping with Rush Alexander. I try, I really do, but I just can’t stay away, and that, ladies and gentlemen, is stressing me out. Rush has the power to hurt me—something I swore I’d never let happen again. Unfortunately, things become a little more complicated when I tell a white lie that lands me in a fake relationship with him. Yeah, not my best moment.

Rush
I’ve always been an easygoing guy and don’t let many things get to me. I’ve worked hard to make my dream of becoming a professional motocross racer come true, and everything else is icing on the cake. Like Lincoln Gray, for example. I need to tread carefully, even though I want more from him than our occasional hookups. If I give what we have too much throttle, we’ll crash and burn. But when Linc accidentally announces we’re boyfriends in front of my mom, the race is on. First, I have to show him there’s more between us than the way we burn up the sheets together. When Linc finally trusts me in ways he doesn’t anyone else, there’s no turning back. I’m a firm believer that nothing worth having comes easily, and Lincoln Gray is worth it all.

Mixed bag-o-nuts, this one.

This book started out very strongly for me, but petered out toward the end.

I loved Lincoln's sassy snark
in book 1 and it was continued on here, as his desire to be with Rush warred with his fear of opening his heart and being hurt again.
“Oh, that’s nice. You’ll have to meet the rest of the guys. We go out for Saturgay once a month and…” Oh my God. Had I just called it Saturgay in front of his mom and his maybe-not-so-straight bestie?

“I mean, I know you’re straight, but we can all hang out. Or not for Saturgay. That’s just a silly name someone in the group who wasn’t me came up with. I just can’t remember who right now. All I know is it wasn’t me.”
I also really liked Rush, who was such a nice, sweet guy, with a slightly-cocky personality, but it worked for him, since he never took it to a conceited level. More of a justified confidence, I suppose.

Although Linc and Rush had been casually having sex for some time, the first half of the book still felt slow burn, as Linc put a moratorium on sex and feelings started to appear and grow.

And then the rains came...

My biggest issue with the latter half of the story had to do with all of the oozing, gelatinous praise heaped onto Linc during the sex. It felt CLOYING, folks.

And Linc fully copped to his desire and need for it, saying at one point, Oh God. I’m such a praise-slut.

Gurl, that wasn't even the half of it. It felt awkward for me, as if Rush were having "Who's a good boy? Yes, you're such a good boy!" sex, so yeah, vaguely canine. *shivers*

I finally ended up skipping more sex scenes that I read, not due to their over-abundance, but from the near-worshipping aspect.

Honestly, I wouldn't have been shocked if Linc had requested that Rush leave glowingly-positive Yelp reviews post-orgasm after each and every coupling. :- /

I'm guessing I stumbled upon a brand new pet peeve of mine here.

I'd rate the story around 3 stars, all things considered.

"My favorite mouth ... My favorite tongue ... my favorite ass ... my favorite hole."

It goes without saying, but I'm gonna say it anyway: this book is SEXY AF.

Rush loves to tell Lincoln he's a good boy, and Linc glows when praised. Rush and Linc are friends and fuckbuddies. The sex is amazing, but Linc gets scared and pushes Rush away.

When Rush is in a motorcross accident at the beginning of a very promising season, Lincoln is so panicked and wants to see Rush so badly, he tells the hospital he's Rush's boyfriend. Little does he know Rush's mom and best friend are within earshot. Ooops.

The fake boyfriend thing turns real very quickly. Linc can't deny himself any longer. Lincoln's back and forth drove me crazy, even though he has his reasons to be leery of anything Rush promises. Linc has been burned before and doesn't trust easily.

Of course, Rush is nothing like Linc's high school hook-up. Thanks to the dual POV, we see how much Rush cares for Linc. Rush adores Linc's fierce, sassy personality. The chemistry between the MCs is sizzling.

Bonus: No manufactured relationship drama! Once the men talk, they make it work and earn their HEA.

I liked the secondary characters in this story, including the previous MCs and Rush's awesome mom. I enjoyed catching up with Ash and Beau from book 1 (I'm not a fan of Devon McCormack's writing style, so I'm skipping his books in this series).

I see at least two potential pairings for future Riley stories and am very much looking forward to more hot love in Fever Falls.

P.S. One minor criticism: The word "tease" or some variation thereof was used almost 80 times in this story! That's a hell of a lot of teasing. And, hey, the MCs and their friends did tease each other, which is cool, but I think the dialogue and actions were enough to SHOW us that the guys were kidding around. We didn't need to be TOLD over and over (AND OVER) again that they were teasing.

I’ve got a real soft spot for this contemporary M/M romance series. I like the fictional small town setting of Fever Falls and the large cast of characters that live there. Add to that, the romances depicted are always hot and tender, featuring couples who share romance, passion, and enjoy the perfect amount of kink in the bedroom! But best of all? Each of the couples share deep and easy friendships, which enhances the strength of their relationships and makes the evolution of their feelings seem more genuine and true.

In this third offering, we get to witness how a pair of series regulars — sassy nurse Lincoln and motocross champion Rush — navigate their way from friends-with-benefits, to accidental fake-boyfriends, to them admitting to and embracing a big-time forever kind of love.

This was some seriously easy reading. Linc and Rush were extremely likeable characters, sharing an intense sexual chemistry on top of their years long, steady friendship. I appreciated just how smooth their transition was from friends to boyfriends, and I’m glad there was very little in the way of relationship angst, with Linc’s initial hesitations being obliterated by the sheer force of Rush’s love and adoration.

These two were very sweet but extremely hot together, which probably earned them my favourite series couple badge, at least for now...

Riley Hart *again* delivers a winner
Linc and Rush have known and liked each (unofficially) for a while. Linc, a nurse, has a mighty wall built around his sexy self, and Rush, a professional athlete, is patient, loving, and a great man
Their journey is sweet....sarcastic...playful....hot.....moving.....loving
Lots of appearances by guys from the first 2 books - Love That!

3.5 Stars!

This one started out pretty decent. I enjoyed the build-up of the guys going from friends with benefits to more. But then I got bored. Not much happened after that and it turned a bit sappy.

Riley Hart has been pretty hit or miss for me as of late - and more so a miss.

I didn’t hate this one but it didn’t do much for me either.

I'm not a big fan of "twinks" in MM romance. I like it best when both heroes are "manly men." It's why I read MM, for double the MAN.

BUT...

This was pretty good. 3.5 stars rounded to 4. I really like Rush. He's just so honest and direct. I love that in any character, man or woman. At the same time, he's patient and considerate and loyal and affectionate. It takes a really strong hero like him to win over a commitment-phobe like Linc.

There were a couple of areas my throat got a little tight. The fact that Rush feared Linc might be in love with his best friend Beau, how honest he was about it, confronting it. How he admitted that it would hurt too much to be in a relationship with Linc if he didn't feel the same way...

I ached so bad for Rush, and I loved him too for being straight up about it. For facing the issue head on. He does that with everything. A man with fears, but brave enough to confront them.

He's the reason this rounds to 4.

All the time I was reading this I kept waiting for the dramatic moment tension point to occur after the 60% mark..

So it was a very pleasant surprise to just read a fairly low angst, very high steam, totally sweet romance between two characters who were vastly different but who just worked.

Holly Molly Dirty Talk!! This book. This BOOK takes the crown for the dirtiest talk in any book I’ve read this year. Whew. Some of the things had me clutching my chest(and I don’t flinch easily). At a point, I had to question if Devon had ghostwritten the dirty talk for Riley Hart because this was durrrty. Needless to say, I loved it all! I actually gave it one whole star for this feat because there is a thin line between dirty talk and corny “sex lines” *giggles*

The book wasn’t overtaken by sex scenes but when they happened? It was something else.*fans self*

Moving on, I liked the book and enjoyed the story. One would’ve thought that with how dramatic Lincoln was, this would be chocked full of drama but it was quite the opposite. Yes, it took an annoying amount of time for Linc to get it head straight but once he was in, the book went on quite smoothly.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely be reading more of the upcoming pairings in this series.

This was so so good, I really enjoyed it a lot!

I loved also that I didn't need to read the second book in this series to read this (not a fan of the other author in this series) and that I could just dive into this and remember that Lincoln is Beau's best friend from the first book and there was something between him and Rush.

This opens with Linc and Rush having been having sex for months, but Linc is trying to maintain that it's just sex and that's it. He even stops what they're doing under the pretense that he doesn't want to lose their friendship (in reality he's just terrified of more.)

Riley Hart's sex scenes tend to be a hit or miss for me, but when they're a hit? LOVE them, and in this book? They were definitely a hit. They had such great chemistry and I enjoyed their scenes together so much.

I loved the secondary characters too, especially Trey, a teenager with cancer who Linc, a nurse, befriends. He was great and really livened up the pages he was on, I loved him a lot.

I like how this didn't go the unnecessary drama route as well. There was drama, but it wasn't the melodramatic, over the top kind of drama and what happened made sense for the characters. Linc was terrified of being in a relationship because of something that happened in his past, so he didn't want to open his heart up, but Rush with his kindness and love and unwavering loyalty broke down Linc's walls and got through to his heart.

I loved how Linc didn't just automatically know how to be in a relationship either, and it was a work in progress, but they didn't overreact at the slightest hurtle either. Not ever romance book or romantic relationship has to be so hard all the time (not that hard relationships are somehow worse, just that not every single one has to be such a struggle for a long time).

I loved this book and I enjoyed these two together a lot, and if the next author is the author I'm not fond of...that will suck because I liked the two potential couples we saw in this. I hope Riley Hart's next book in this is Sawyer and Carter though...but also Cam and Jude held my interest too...so I guess we'll see.

Overall, very good book, and I highly recommend it. Two thumbs up from me! :D

You know what the biggest problem is with a cover slut? You fall into lust with the cover without checking out the blurb or the book...you have a one click addiction and after purchase you open the book and start reading..... only to discover in the second chapter you've seemed to feel like the outcast friend because every one seem to know something you don't!!!🤣🤣🤣 Only to have a closer look and find that you skipped book one and two and fell head first into the series with book 3 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️😜

I really loved this story!!! Will have to work my way back to book 1 📚📚🤣🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I am still enjoying the small town feel with all these gay boys running around.

This one was easy, I wouldn’t say I was bored but nothing really happened to move the story along. I never really felt they initial connection between them, it is almost like I needed the meet cute or just the meeting in general. I can’t recall how long they have been friends and how long they were messing around. I know it took place in the other book or books but my memory just isn’t that good. I do recall the breakfast but not when that was. Some of the dialogue was tad cheesy and the dirty talk a bit too much but overall I found it to be a sweet romance.

My absolute favorite part of this story though was Trey.

Sorry, I waited WAY too long to write this review...

This book is so cute, and hot, it was the hottest book in the series for me, all of these books can be read individually which for me is a plus.

In this book we are introduced to Lincoln and Rush, they both have their problems but they want to fight to be together and what starts as a fake relationship ends up in real feelings.

Lincoln is so bratty, he reminds me a lot of Tristan from Alessandra Hazard's books and that's a good thing. Lincoln is afraid of relationships and it was really fun to see how he finally agreed to start a serious relationship and Rush ... Well, Rush is very cute.

Without a doubt it is a great read to relax, very enjoyable, and did I say hot? Yeah, very hot!

This was a sweet, mostly angst free, somewhat boring romance. For me, this book didn't bring the heat or the strong feeling of connection that would make this an above average read.

3-3.5 stars

currently not my favorite Riley Hart book but it was still good none the less.

Rush and Linc were cute together, but Linc put up too many blocks at the beginning which was annoying. i am going to continue with Riley Harts books in this series, I don't really gel with Devon McCormack's writing.

I wish we had more time with Trey or at least to see more motocrossing, but can't win them all.

Too much sex praise. It started out hot, and got weird fast. If I read about Linc being a good boy with a pretty hole again I was gonna throw my phone.

Too much banter/teasing. Not every thing is a corny joke. Everyone read very immature to me.

Too many side characters. I’ve read the first book in this series but not the second, and it was a lot to keep straight.

It wasn’t awful by any means, but I didn’t love it. Should’ve heeded J’s review. 😂

Might be interested to see Jude’s story, but hopefully it has a more serious tone than this one.

A bit formulaic, hit all the romance bullet point :(bratty/laid back, scared of love/(supposidly)patient, (weird) dirty talk, ultimatum against secret..

Possible triggers for some: bullying, homophobia are really the only bad things, but it only takes a little. So be careful.
Well, this has been one heck of a series. I’ve enjoyed getting to see all the boys again. They have such eclectic personalities but seem to mesh so well together. When you first meet Lincoln, some people I don’t think know quite how to handle him. He has this exuberant energy and life to him, you don’t expect him to actually be so very insecure. But I fell in love with the little stinker from the get go. He doesn’t apologize for who he is and he tries to live life to the fullest.
But Linc has a hard time letting people in. After all the bullying he endured in school, who could blame him? But it wasn’t just that. He’s just had some bad things happen to him, that does leave it’s scars. So, yeah, trust is an issue. The only real friend he thinks he has is Beau, but what he doesn’t seem to realize, is he has more than he thinks. Especially Rush. Even though it Linc has tried to keep it all about sex and tried to stop it after a few times, there’s something about Rush that calls to him. And it scares the hell out of him. Rush is patient, though. But as life so loves to do, it kicks us in the teeth at times, and sometimes it gets overwhelming. And Linc has to finally learn to let go and fully trust Rush and what they have, or maybe lose him.
When I started reading about Linc’s past, I hurt for him. And I got to thinking about it and about how people would react. Some may think it’s not that huge of a deal, but unless you’ve been in that situation, it’s actually a very big deal. Bullying is no laughing matter. So, I felt for Linc. Being bullied myself, I wanted to hug the crap out of him. But I was so proud of what he made of himself. That doesn’t mean insecurities don’t come and go. They’re always going to be there, no matter what. But he did everything he could to rise above. Well, almost. Not letting people get too close is the only drawback. But what’s great about Linc, is that if you can get past that wall he has up, he loves wholeheartedly and is loyal to death. His heart is big and full for those he holds dear.
I love how Rush was so patient with him. He has cared about Linc for a long time. It’s subtle but there at times at how he’s been hurt in the past. He knew he’d have to go slow with Linc. Even when it drove him absolutely insane. Linc is just a special person and Rush saw that. He saw all that Linc truly was and he didn’t want to let that go. But even strong and steady sometimes have moments where enough is enough and things are too much. But what made it worth it, is they realized what they needed and fought for it. Didn’t mean it was easy. But then again, life isn’t exactly easy.
With all that was going on with the guys in this book, I’m really curious to see who’s up next and to see where it’s going to go. There’s a few in there that I want to see get together. Two in particular. I think they would be perfect together. But I’m not telling lol.

Lincoln and Rush were so sweet!! I just adored their dynamic. And I’m so into the athlete/twink trope lately! This book had so much depth. The characters were wonderful and developed throughout the book.

Lincoln was such a fun but also complex character. He was outgoing, jovial and flirty. He was also still coping with long lasting effects of childhood bullying and abandonment of his parents. He was deeply affected by these betrayals so it wasn’t any wonder he had a hard time believing Rush could want him in any meaningful way. He also refused to allow himself to become too attached or even admit how strong his own feelings for rush had become.

Rush was such a genuine person. He had fallen for Linc pretty much from the beginning but knew Linc wasn’t in the same head space so he basically took what he could get. That didn’t mean he was weak or not moving forward with his own life, he just enjoyed the time they did share. Rush was also a very loyal person. He took care of those he loved but struggled to let them show the same care for him.

Rush treated Linc with such devotion and praise. He knew exactly what Linc needed and gave it to him - and gave it to him good😏 I loved how they spoke to each other. They teased and doted but they were also dirty and passionate. They gave each other what the my needed - which was a place they could be vulnerable and protected.

This one fell a bit short for me. It was nice. That about sums it up. I didn’t feel the strong connection pulling Lincoln & Rush together, maybe if this started with their first encounter as lovers then there would’ve been more.

3.75 stars!! 💕Really Liked it!! 😍 Continuing the Fever Falls series, this is the story of Linc and Rush who were hinted in the previous books as friends-with-benefits, but it also seemed that Rush maybe had more invested in the relationship than Linc. Told alternately through the POVs of the 2 MCs we get to see their story unfold. Linc has been hurt in the past by his family and betrayed by people who he thought his friends 💔and therefore despite his outward charm and confidence, he suffers from severe insecurity. Nevertheless, that doesn't stop him from spending time with and befriending one of his young patients' (Trey) who reminds him of himself. Rush on the other hand has had a great childhood and has found his love of bikes in professional motor-cross. His entire life he has been open about who he is and what he wants.. and he wants Linc 💘. He is very open about his feelings and desires from the very beginning, but convincing Linc takes time and patience. However, when Rush gets injured during an event while racing, Linc is forced to reconcile with his feelings..😍 and muddling through some funny misunderstandings, the two find out that they belong together 💞
But will Linc be able to let go of his insecurities and trust Rush? With Rush's motor-cross racing career taking him away from Fever Falls for months at a time, will Linc be able to endure the long distance relationship?💔 And what about Rush's best friend Jude? Is he a real threat to this budding relationship? 😳For the answers and so much more, it is highly recommended that one must read this book 👍👍. It is low-angst,😍 super-sweet 😁and extremely hot 🔥🔥; another fun addition to this series. 😍

This is basically a sweet friends/lovers book. The groundwork for the relationship was before the book began. We the reader sort of step into the middle of it.

Linc and Rush have a casual sexual relationship until Linc puts on the brakes. On the surface, Linc is a confident take no prisoners nurse. He knows what he wants and goes after it. Scratch the surface, and reality is totally different.

When Linc was a small child, his parents left him with an emotionally cold aunt to go find their zin. While the aunt looked after his physical needs, she never loved or nurtured him. Linc is afraid of letting anyone get close to his heart. He loves Rush but isn't ready to admit to himself or Rush.

Rush is a super sweet motocross rider. He wants so much more than sex from Linc. He wants to earn his trust. Rush gets his chance when he is hurt in a race. Linc in a panic tells the hospital he is Rush's boyfriend. This is the perfect excuse they both need, and it isn't long until pretend becomes real.

The last part of the book is Linc and Rush navigating issues with Rush's dad and the couple meshing their lives together. There isn't a big drama and the angst level is low. The door is left open for future books and pairings.

This book took me way to many days to get through. It wasn’t the writing or the characters, they were fine and likable, I was just bored. It felt like it dragged and basically nothing was really happening. If I’m in to a book not a lot can take me out, but with this one I was distracted by something else every couple of pages. This whole series is a bit to mundane for me I think, or maybe my tastes have changed.

Hands down one of the best reads this year for me. The quality of the writing and how the author made me care and root for Linc, Rush, Trey and the supporting cast was just phenomenal.
The author managed to show the fear that Linc felt about giving in and just trusting and loving Rush so well, that it was the highlight of the book for me. Rush, oh my... he was just about the perfect book boyfriend; he was just there for Linc, 100%. He was committed, caring, nurturing and patient even though he had his own demons with the issues with his father and the injury that put his Motocross dreams on hold. This book had so much substance and every character had such depth. I've loved Riley's writing since picking up 'Crossroads' one of my first MM reads, and I've never looked back. If you're wondering whether read this one, do it, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
