Free from the Shadowscape, Gryff returns to the world only to find two months have passed him by, but it’s nothing compared to what’s in store for him next.
Gryff has his hands full between Enclaves falling, undead bounty hunters hell bent on revenge, and oh yeah, the council is out to get him, too.
But Gryff has become more powerful, and none of his enemies can predict what he is now capable of.
I haven't really liked the last 2 books as much as the first 4. The author seems to have switched things up and focused on the aspects of the story I dislike and ignore all the stuff I like. I like Gryff being in school and learning about magic. I like when he finds new combinations of abilities to help him in combat. I like the monster fights. I like when he has fun with his friends. Most of that was gone in this book. After saving Nia in the last book, Gryff finds out that he has been gone for about 2 months in real world time and instead of getting a parade and congratulations, he and the rest of his team end up getting arrested for treason. Miriam Sharpay has accused headmaster Sleet of treason and so everyone he sent out on their missions in the last book are also being tried for treason. One thing I hate is stories is politics.
I can't wait for Gryff and his friends to actually start fighting monsters again and get away from all the political stuff.
Injured and tired they got back home and were all arrested for something they didn't do.
Monsters attacked the town while they were arrested and they managed to escape and went to get the other cipher and their new kind of humans kidnapped them.
They got the cipher and went back and there those new humans attacked and he told them before dying who hired them.
I enjoyed this book A lot and I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series. This is my favorite series that is written by Eric Vall. The characters continue to grow and develop into strong characters with interesting stories of their own. The pacing was good and the action scenes are well written. Overall another homerun.
I tend to enjoy these kind of book series but this book seems to break several of the rules for a good harem: The main characters appear to chose quantity over quality. A good book shouldn't have more than 3 or 4 significant others. Also there appears to be no relationship building between them. He looks at a girl, she bites her lips & boom a few pages and they are in the sack. The first couple of relationships actually was written decently. He had to work to make any friendship and then more. Now it happens rapidly with little to no character development. He should have left it alone after Arwyn, Nia & Layla.
Also, the middle part of the book feels like they threw that in at the last second. I feel they should have stuck with the Hartmire Enclave for a lot longer even if they needed to simplify, cut or separate into subsequent books. We missed so much in that town

Summoner 5 was my least favourite book in the series being overly complex and using the strong and powerful Nia as a damsel in distress. This book brings the story back on track with adventure and intrigue the focus. Gryff gains another powerful monster to his collection, as he tries to juggle the harem of girls he has feelings for. I think we need a bit of an explanation on the expectations around what is considered a standard relationship in this world, as it hasn’t been defined in any of the books so far, as the girls don’t seem to be too phased about not being the only one in a relationship with Gryff, and just roll their eyes when the find out there is another. Hopefully some of these relationships will become official sometime in the story as there is also no description of contraceptives being used.
I really love this series. Gryff’s determination and wit make the books amazing to read. I’d like to see more creativeness with the summons. At first he was being really creative or doing his best to train and find new combos and abilities, but now it’s just reinforcing their worlds view on summoners being useless without super powered monsters and we’ve seen Gruff prove that wrong. Though I will say that his relationship with his monsters is great. I feel like more could be done there. Still a great series and I’m looking forward to the next one.
A good book, but two things occur to me at this point in the series. One: this book should have finished it, it's getting a bit long-in-the-tooth now. Two: The MC would likely have been murdered by some of his male acquaintances by now for pulling in all the young attractive women he meets. I know it's a harem story, but this is getting a bit ridiculous and "his" women being so blasé about it also strains my suspension of disbelief.
If you liked the series to this point you'll like this one, but IMO the next one should be the last one.
Mostly as good as before. Minor problems with magic mechanics. Many plot points are resolved by a surprising useful result from (basically) random magic. Also, sex has gotten more detailed and, generally, more boring. It usually interrupts the story and has no greater impact on relationships. Both are still a small part of the book, so only one star off.
The party splitting demanded by the plot takes away from many fun character dynamics. This is reasonable, but not my favorite.
Really, if you are still reading this series then reviews are mostly pointless - you will be carrying on regardless. Having said that, this remains one of the author's better written & structured series. A few of the fight sequences were a little uncertain at points and the plot cohesion remains set to full on pulp level, but that's the bar being aimed for there, so I wouldn't penalise it for being what it is.
Okay you need to buy this book! The excitement and drama continue as Gruff and his team search for the remaining pieces of the cipher! The bounty hunters are revealed as well as who they're working for, ( no spoilers you need to read the book) and who is this new mysterious woman dark mage? How did she recognize Bruce's Dad's dagger? Can't wait to read the next one!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was difficult to put down. Gryff and his team return home to a less than gracious welcome, as they are arrested for treason. Danger lurks at every turn. The story and characters intriguing and engaging. I look forward to reading more about these characters and their further adventures. This book is definitely worth reading.
This is my favorite series by Vall and this book didn't let me down. I like how it isn't like a traditional harem, more like a bunch of girlfriends and they are only a side part of the story compared to the more interesting plot. Can't wait to see what come next.
Always the hero. Griff is always at the front of the fight as usual. He must battle mercs and mobs to find the clues needed to stop the monster invasions. Along the way her finds the time to embrace his many female allies but again , the usual. Still enjoy this series and eagerly await the next book.
A plot that makes no sense, a protagonist that keeps getting stronger and dumber, a lack of consistency or any sort of logic to the magic system, and a vast array of harem thats just too easy for the protagonist to collect all of whom lack any sort of depth. Also, random elements are being added to the plot just to keep the books rolling. Did not like, and won't be reading any further.
When a writer wants his audience to be emotionally connected with the characters, they present events a certain way. Eric has great control over the method. What he does lack, at times, is logically consistent fight scenes. It’s very minor and really doesn’t reduce the reading quality. It’s just noticeable to my eye. Keep writing, Eric!
Gryff and his friends continue trying to figure out what is going on as the Rifts allow larger and more dangerous monsters through into Mistral. The search for the ciphers and answers leads to peril and more questions, but few answers.
Good one Mr Vall, as always you deliver ,great ongoing story with sex.love,death. Blood, war ,villains new and old ,civilization on the brink.Everything you need in plenty ,An epic story .Thank you Mr Vall.
This was a great book! The pacing and plot were really good, the character development was also really good. I would recommend this series and all of the series the author has in the works.
I just love this series and the world that the author has created. The bond between the main characters is so real. They just keep getting better and better, I can’t wait for the next book.
Eric continues to build upon the story that started strong and just keeps going, adding to the plot, mixing action and adventure, looking forward to seeing where this story goes. Keep up the great work!
Adventures are plenty but some of the excitement is missing. Cliffhanger is good but predictable. Linear storytelling as always but look forward to reading the next installment of the series.
And Gryph and friends have been ordered back to the Academy and stripped of their Response team status as the remaining council members try to suppress the knowledge of the cyphers.
This entire book is one constant thrill ride. Fighting battles of monsters, bounty hunters, and all sorts of evil doers. This was just so much fun to read. I'm already looking forward to reading the next book.
Loving this series. Each book so far has been action packed and the writing and storyline are excellent!! Once you start these books you will hate to put it down so make sure you have time lol.. definitely moving on to book 7
