As a Peds OT, there are things I disagree with in this… such as stating that scooting on a child’s bottom rather than crawling is a perfectly normal movement pattern. It isn’t! Crawling is extremely important for SO many things including reflex integration, bilateral coordination, hand strength, sensory development, balance, problem solving, etc.

Overall, I think it gives generally good information regarding development and basic care, but it is very generalized and spans over many months in short sections (such as 8-12 months all lumped into one) - do they realize how much development happens between 8-12 months? And how drastically different an 8 m old vs a 12 m old development looks like? At least break it up between 2 months rather than 4. Between 7-9 months and 10-12 months seems much more appropriate and accurate. Same with a 1 year old - a 1 yr old who is 12 months old and a 1 year old who is 23 months old are VERY different levels of development.

I appreciated how everything was broken down in this book and easy for parents to interpret. Milestone markers and red flags for when you should be concerned was nicely laid out in bullet points which I appreciated and felt was very family friendly. Generallyyyy good information and helpful for a new parent. I’m just being picky and wish the AAP would consult with other healthcare professionals who specialize in development like OTs PTs SLPs 🤦🏼‍♀️
