An alien invasion. A home-world destroyed. Can an embattled captain survive a daring fight to save the remnant of his colony? Privateer Liam Hoffen can’t wait to reunite with his family. But after he emerges from a 20-year stasis, he’s shocked to discover a hostile enemy has razed his home and exiled his people. With his foes dependent on a gas-mining platform to keep their ships fueled, Liam’s last-ditch hope is to cut off the vicious aliens with the help of a brother he never knew he had…
Armed only with ancient combat-damaged clunkers, he and his stubborn sibling must lead a dangerous assault on the enemy’s critical resources. Grossly outnumbered and far from reinforcements, Liam fears he’ll have to put everything on the line to defend the people he loves from annihilation.
Can Liam stop the powerful adversary from killing his family and taking over the system?

It takes extraordinary talent to keep a series going through 17 books (and that’s not even counting the various side stories set in the same Cosmos). Somehow Jamie McFarlane pulls it off in superb style with the latest Privateer Tales story, Incursion at Elea Station. The legions of fans of this series can rejoice as this book is as fun, exciting and fresh as the best of the books in the series. And yet, somehow amazingly, newcomers will love it too. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
Jamie McFarlane – Incursion at Elea Station- A REVIEW
THIS SERIES JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER! Loving it!
The crew have to defend the Elea fueling station in the Mhina System against the encroaching Mendarai. Dropping out of compressed fold-space their ship the Hotspur exits in the middle of a battle group of Mendarai. The crew wakens from suspension to Klaxon alarms and red lights to find the ship had been holed. The rush to their battle stations. Thus begins their adventure, Incursion at Elea Station.
This is an improvement on the last few books, but since the bar was so low it isn't much of an accomplishment. The cast is back to normal and mostly together, but as usual secondary and tertiary characters are seen as no more than window-dressing, and they are treated as such by the plot.
Liam has a brother, and though the cast hardly needs more characters added, it could prove interesting in the future. The only issue is how Liam lets him act like a second captain second guessing everything he does. It messes with the congruity of the crew and makes no sense. It is also never resolved or brought to a head, so more of the nonsense gets to be enjoyed in future books.
They have a new enemy, but of course it is another like the bugs with a unreasonable aggression towards them. There are so many loose ends left flapping in the wind, I don't know why so much was dedicated to this. I'd really like to see what happens with earth, mars, the belt, freedom station, the Filia, the crystals, and of course their damn business which started the entire series. There are so many things left unmentioned it is hard to finish a book and feel there is any closure.
At least there isn't a lot of cheap deception used for phony twists or suspense. Knowing how the series has previously worked, all the progress will probably be wiped away in the next book, so it doesn't matter much what happens. No matter where they are going, they always end up in the same place. It has really gotten tiring.
Luckily my expectations for the books in this series have been beaten down by reading bad book after bad book. If there weren't so few published works left at the time of writing this I would have bailed out long ago. Sadly the series started off good, and because of that I am still interested in the large cast of characters. Even if the plot is slapped together and overly predictable, I'd still like to see what happens to the cast.
I love the series! That being said I really didn't like the beginning of this book. how years had pasted and other things that happened during that period. It almost caused me to put the book down and stop reading it. I just love the characters to much to see what the author talked about them during that period. If I was you I would rewrite it and make it so all suffered the same. You know what I mean. The rest of the story was well written. Good Reading Everyone!
If I could give this book 4.5 stars I would. It is really good but I just finished reading Manhunt at Squaw Creek and this book pales a bit compared to that. In its own right, this is a great continuation of the overall story. While each book is a story unto itself, you do yourself s disservice by not stating at bloom one. Those of you who have read the whole series will understand. Keep pumping ot the books, Jamie McFarlane.
Another sojourn up the proverbial creek for Liam, Tabby and the crew. Old friends, and some new faces, join forces to help our heroes fashion paddles of sufficient size to extricate themselves from said creek.
Spaceships, romance, betrayal, violence and examples of great heroism abound. Well worth a read. Highly recommended.
As this is book 17, of course, I enjoy them. I recommend this author. These are a excellent read, I only hate having to wait so long between books. I think it’s been approximately 10 months and you forget a lot of details in the waiting. That’s the only drawback.
Three and a half stars. I like this story and still enjoy the characters. It just seems that things have evolved from a bunch of kids getting by on the skin of their teeth. To a group of near super-heroes overcoming the impossible EVERY time. It is fun, but the character growth doesn't match the incredible events over which they prevail.
Going home after a long stay away is always the high point of any trip. In this case, there is no exception. After 20 years things are expected to change, but not this much. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing House of Bold return home and help rebuild what was lost!
I love this series! It is a great adventure to lose yourself in. The crew are are all unique and capable characters. The possibilities are endless for great adventures. Will Ada find love? What is next for Liam and Tabby? How will Liam and Noah's relationship develop and what kind of man will Pete become now that he has other options. Hope this series never ends!
Captain Liam Hoffen and his crew defend Elea Station from the marauding Mendari. If they can secure this fuel depot, it would be a blow to the enemy who always knew Liam would pose a threat. That’s why they caused him to lose twenty years while stranded on another planet. But now he’s back and determined to regain his losses. Another gripping adventure in this robust series.
One thing I love about the Privateer Tales series is that it is always evolving. The first book is very different from book 17 and there's been constant growth of the characters and many surprises during the journey. You never know where the author will take you, what could happen, what new aliens we could meet, or what main character may die. It's been quite a ride so far! ~ Kort
Well let's just say this. I started reading Jamie McFarlane a while ago now. Stopped at book 15. 2 years later I picked up 16 and BOOM! All the story and characters came flooding back. An authentic author who brings his characters and space to life. You wont be disappointed
Liam gets back to his holding to find a devastated planet, and Maderi everywhere. After huge battles their finally able to secure the hold. This series just keeps getting better and better. The Characters are well written and the story flows so your turning pages late into the night! Enjoy!
It is indeed a new story with just enough of the old story that links one book to another. Technically, they are individual books but just simple stories. As a set 1&1=3. , good books Individually, two books.@As a set , three at least. Don't believe me? Read 4 books.
What I like about the author is that he really develops his aliens. How about sentiments the size and shape of big rats? Mechanized spider people that destroyed their own world and now are out to destroy others, or add spider constructs to their bodies and make them soldiers for their army. Good story, good series.
Another good book in a Great series. McFarlane really knows how to maintain consistency in his characters. Unlike so many series that I have read, his characters have the same persona in book 15 as in #3. They also maintain the same morals and values. Very refreshing and unusual.
I have so enjoyed following Liam's story from the first book to this last one. I love the way he is a human hero and his love for Tabby faltered but did not disappear. I also love that he has a team of strong women around him.
Another successful engagement. The previous story was a real heart breaker. This one does a good job of mending the wound. Dont wait too long before the next release. We tend to forget. Good job. Thx
Another enjoyable and quick-paced book in the Privateer series. This one moved the series along, got away from some of the awkwardness of relationships in the previous story and set the stage for hopefully exciting new adventures to come. A great series and another very good read.
Love this book and this series! Liam and crew are having another adventure. Reunited with family and friends, life is never going to be simple. I'm looking forward to the next book.
First book in series for me, also I listened to the audiobook. I understand it is book 17 in the series. Story and narrator are both great. Space opera, humor, mystery, space what else does a guy need. Recommended highly
The Privateer tales have presented a lot of "skin of their teeth" escapades...
I am forever amazed by how it works out! This book was no exception except, now I want more! While you're thinking about where to go next, another "Witchy" book or more would be awesome!!!
After returning to the Mhina system after 20 years in exile Liam, Tabby, and the crew find out that things have gone very bad so they decide to fix what they can. Highly recommended.
This is a wonderful series, great character with lots of action. If you want to fly space ships, fight aliens and revenge family and friends. Then this is the series for you.
Well, here we are at book 17. If you have followed this far you know the story. I enjoyed this book more than the last and I liked the last one! I hope you will enjoy it too.
Another really good book. I'm really enjoying this series. The main characters are a lot of fun. I like the way they get along together. I can't wait to see where they go from here.
