When a flood hits Grant's Landing, Jack is one of the first to respond by bringing her construction company to the town to rebuild houses. The town is suffering from lack of supplies, lack of business, and lack of housing, so members of the town are required to call in further assistance. Jill, a member of Hope's Integrity, decides to drive supplies to the small town, meeting the bruiting Jack who both challenges and excites her. The two women grow into each other's worlds despite the great differences that they have, but when conflicts from their pasts come to light, will they be able to stick together, or will the floods of differences that they have sweep them apart?

Jack is helping to rebuild a town that has suffered disaster after severe flooding. Jill is helping to get supplies into the town when she finds herself in need of assistance. Jack comes to her rescue and instantly there is tension between them which leaves Jill finding herself very much attracted to Jack. They develop a sort of friendship but with all the drama, and problems following the flooding there is a much to overcome if they are going to be together.
A very simple and sweet story that focuses not only on the lives and relationships of the main characters, but also on real issues that affect real people. It was lovely to see how Nicole brought together two characters with integrity and kindness to help others. It was a very selfless story, even though it had a romance element.
The relationship between Jack and Jill is strained at first, and they couldn’t be more different. Jack is very protective, with strong morals and unlimited kindness, but she is wary of Jill and her intentions to help the town. It is quickly clear that Jill is very sensitive and emotional, empathetic to the town’s case but also towards Jack and together they just complimented each other nicely and made a nice couple.
I hope we will see more from these characters in future, and look forward to reading more of Nicole’s emotional stories.
An interesting and sweet novella - around 3 and a half stars. This was the first work by this author that I’ve read and I was impressed by both the writing and the storyline.
I did internally groan a little bit that the MCs are called Jack & Jill but I especially liked Jack as a character and thought their relationship was interesting.
Disaster relief is an area I’ve never read about in wlw romance before so I found the writing on that topic really interesting.
The inevitable angst in a wlw romance was handled a little bit differently. I’d like more about this pair, so I’d have appreciated a full length novel, but then perhaps it would have felt too drawn out as the short nature ensured the narrative moved at a nice pace.
I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a sweet, easy and very quick to read wlw romance.

The Flood Between Us (Higginbotham Publications, 978-1099760891, 2019) is more than just a love story. Nicole Higginbotham-Hogue takes on the job of describing what happens after tragedy strikes a town and people beyond the community step forward to help.
I am reviewing this book at an odd time in the world where we are going through our own crisis. Higginbotham-Hogue echoes the feelings of what is going on in real life in her pages. For me though, people are a lot nicer in her pages and a lot more helpful (laugh).
I love both main characters and the strength it takes for the choices they make to live their lives. The choices they make to love each other. Then the choices made for the future. Higginbotham-Hogue provides the exact balm that I need to read right now.
Love conquering pain, disaster, loss, and survival. Together.

This book starts with a woman called Jill who works for a company called Hope’s Integrity, which helps out communities in trouble. She is tasked with taking some supplies to the small town of Grant’s Landing, which was hit by huge floods and most of the residents have lost their homes and even businesses have suffered. A woman called Jack has come to the town for two purposes. One is to find her birth father and the other is to help rebuild the town, with her own funds and the expertise she has from running her own constructions company. Help was required to help the town and they have had quite a few volunteers come to help out, but most only stay for a day or so.
When Jack picks up Jill from a flooded route into town, she believes that Jill will be just like most of the volunteers and so is fairly blunt with her. Jill asks her boss and former ex Cindy if she can continue to work there for a couple of weeks and ends up going back the next day to help on the home rebuilds, something she has helped with before. When Jill returns, Jack is quite surprised and even though neither of them are each others normal type, they start to get close and Jill helps her to reconnect with her father. Unfortunately, someone isn’t happy that Jill has a life away from them and finds every excuse to check up on her, even at really odd times of the day and night!
This conflict with an ex leaves Jill believing she has to leave the town where she has been so happy helping to rebuild and getting close to Jack, but Jack has her own problems and has to deal with yet another disaster hitting the town, as well as her father. A short story, but an interesting one that has two different women helping out a community that has lost almost everything, but not given up! Nice to have a story of people helping others in trouble, but throws in a bit of reality with their own lives as well. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Sweet and interesting short story. I really liked it. It would have be even better if it was longer but I can't complain. Jack and Jill's story was so nice. They were doing something for community and they were happy about it. I admire that kind of people even if it is just in a book.
