Dark Nightingale

Rate this book
Three vampires walk into a tattoo shop…

Some people would welcome their long-lost family. But when your father is a ruthless, ancient vampire, it’s best to run in the opposite direction.

Emmaline is a demure witch with a heart of gold. She’s also more powerful than all of Blackthorn Grove’s witches combined. After twenty years of exile enforced by the coven, her father, Adrik, has come back to Savannah with his clan to claim his daughter. He’s hell-bent on taking Emmaline back to his house of vampires in New Orleans.

Katie Bishop is determined to protect Emmaline and send the vampires back to Louisiana, but Emmaline may not be the only one who needs protecting. There’s something inside Katie that could make Adrik want to possess her too.

What is Adrik really after, and why is he no longer afraid of the coven? The race is on to figure that out and to stop the trail of bodies the vampires are leaving all over town.

3stars = okay

I've read the first four books back to back so there are things in the framework of the story that are starting to wear thin. Sugar is no longer fun - she pops up and there is always the same nagging conversation about being left out of the loop when trouble turns up on Katie's ( and trouble likes to keep visiting) , there are the same convos with her love interest Jackson ( she has to do it herself and doesn't want his back up but if the problem is his she has to be there), she is always skipping out on her business, and her dragon always has some problem so that it isn't a factor in til the big finish.

I guess I don't have much to say above the actual plot except that there's spot of blood drinking by good guys and bad guys.. I don't know that I will continue on with the next book - as I mentioned these are starting to feel a bit rinse and repeat.

“Dark Nightingale” is one of the more complex and interesting installments in the Katie Bishop series. This time a vampire and his clan has come up to Savannah and he is leaving dead bodies as party favors introducing his arrival.

This vamp is Adrik and he is the Dark Nightingale luring his victims and potential followers with his haunting song. Oh, did I mention that he is also Emmaline’s father? Well, daddy dearest has come to insist that his daughter join him on his quest of destruction. So why now and why does his presence endanger Katie? Well, it seems the Nightingale can transmit his song through his blood and as we know Katie has been ingesting Emmaline’s blood.

As the body count begin to build Katie will be asked to sacrifice so much more than she ever has in order to find a way to bring Adrik down. However, what no one counted on is that Adrik has a secret weapon that makes him almost infallible.

This read was pretty intense and left the reader guessing at almost ever turn. Katie’s dragon is kept pretty subdued this time so she relies on her wit and other talents. We also really get a great view into the lives of some of the supporting characters like Emmaline’s, Sea Bass and Esrial. The surprise is ending packs a great little wallop that will leave you laughing for days. I really enjoyed his installment.

Ok...does no one in this world have a nice dad? Every book seems to have Darth Vader syndrome, at least 4 and up. Why does she keep saying I'm a dragon... Like she's the juggernaut but everyone always needs to save her because she sucks at being a dragon. Also, she goes on and on about people not lying to her by omission or not, she never tells people what's going on till after the fact. Jackson needs to leave her for sugar because Katie is a immature, contrary, hypocrite and a crappy friend.

Ok

I still like this world but this didn’t feel like any growth happened. Katie still keeps secrets when she shouldn’t and seems unreasonable arrogant as each crisis she is bailed out by a cast of others. I wish we got to see Jackson and Katie interact as a couple.

Disappointing

The story was too disjointed and underdeveloped. This was disappointing and the villain was far too easily defeated, with a banal demigod, whoes powers were never fully explored.

Katie is back and facing a danger even the Crossroads is afraid of, we do learn more of Emmaline's
past and just how powerful she really is. The dragon needs her blood to survive and that is a struggle for Katie, this was a good read from start to finish.

I got to bk 4, about 30+% in

I could not take it anymore. The inconsistencies, the hypocritical statements, the blatant stupidity of the female character got worse in each book. The story is good the interactions are juvenile, actually worse because she speaks w authority but its the most ignorant crap, she cant stand lying including by omission, but does it pretty much every chapter. Her bf who im sure has way more depth than the author has explained has been turned into a bit player that has been pretty much neutered and given a lobotomy bcuz she just sucks! My dislike started in the second book and has just gotten worse that I can't even care about the story anymore. What's worse is the allies she garnered in bk 1, are now mere shadows pulled out of the cupboard to add juice to the story. But witches ...coven that pretty much don't do anything but have meetings ...reee dick u less. But yeah lets have an unreliable dragon rein destruction when she gets scared or overwhelmed...(im winking with a finger pistol.) Absolutely no growth to any character, as soon as it starts it stops, enter the dumb dragon girl w no experience.

I have loved reading this latest Katie Bishop book. Luanne Bennett really brings to life all of her characters so they become friends in the reader’s mind. This book brings us Emmeline’s story which had been touched on in the previous books, but really brought to the fore in this book. I hadn’t realised that her father was such a powerful vampire and coupled with her mum being a very powerful witch it’s no wonder Emmeline has more power than anyone else in the Coven! Her father has returned to bring her into the fold with or without her consent, but will he succeed? Who is the mysterious Gabriel helping him and making it almost impossible for the Coven to run him off like they did before – will they succeed? Will Katie’s dragon be strong enough to prevail?
Then let’s not forget Sea Bass – is he getting to grips with his Howler – and Mouse – I did not see that coming!
Looking forward to the next book. I have been fortunate to receive this ARC in exchange for an honest review of this book.

I just love everything by Ms. Bennett. This book doesn't disappoint either. Though it isn't a stand-alone and is part of a series, it is a series I highly recommend you start. Each book is filled with creating world-building and characters that you will love and hate. Characters' back stories from grow and become more complex with each book. You come to learn so much about them and their world that you become immersed in the story. It's almost a painful wait till the next book. In this one book, you learn more about Emmaline, the witch, and a new character, her evil father Adrik. He has come back to take Emmaline with him into his vampire coven, with or without her consent. Will Katie be strong enough to help run him off and save her? What's a Katie B. Book without her side-kicks - Sea Bass and Mouse. Let's just say, I totally didn't see that coming!

I fortunate enough to receive an ARC copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

A good old vampire revenge story

A member of the Society, a powerful priestess was raised by the head of the coven. But, she's only half witch. The other half is vampire, and daddy is back for her. His plans aren't pleasant, and she is a shy little bird with a lot of power. He sends messengers of gore through the city, even into Katie's shop.
In addition, Jackson, Cairo and a new entry, Dex are hunting for the money that the Sapanth's took.
There are kidnappings, zombies, even a closed Catholic school! No shortage of the unexpected here! I'm off to get the next one. I hope, hope, hope it isn't the last?

After four books, I’m definitely recognizing the author’s pattern:

1. Bad guys roll into town
2. Bad guy trouble affects Katie or Katie’s friends
3. Additional bad guy plot twist
4. Katie and friends defeat bad guy
5. Katie and friends defeat other bad guy

It’s a formula that seems to work for the author and since I’m reading this series for “brain candy,” I don’t mind the predictability. I would like to see a little more from Katie than “I see a bad guy and my talons come out.” The author has the opportunity to give this strong female character both brains and brawn, but so far she seems only to be the muscle.

This is and enjoyable series that I had I hopes for. It has fallen a little short of those but like I said its still good. There are a lot of characters to like but they are all like insta friends, boyfriends etc. with no depth to any of them. Many of the characters have lots of mysteries with their parentage but you never get any answers. The main character has a dad but hasn't even brought up the idea to try to go fine him and she has an aunt that she wants to have a relationship with but doesn't speak to. She has a with best friend back in New York but hasn't spoken to them once. Its like a fun story happens but not a GREAT story.

Forever wait but was worth it.

Wow, what can I say. It was a long wait for this installment but was worth it. Gabriel was definitely a nice new addition and I'm sure we'll be seeing more of him in future installments because why wouldn't we?
Katie always has something weird happening to and around her. Jackson is still swoon worthy and the type of man any woman can live with.
I had thoroughly enjoyed the series less the small edit needs here and there.
Hopefully the next one won't take as long in coming.

magic madness

I feel like the real magic madness hasn’t even begun but I’m super into what’s happening now. It’s vampires and all their drama with the coven but Katie’s stuck in the middle. Not too much though, and if anything you just see the backlash of her being known, if anything. And her dragon problem.

It’s touch and go for me with this series, I think. I’m not completely connected to any of the characters but I am glad I got to meet Gabriel!! I met him in Red Widow and that series (two books rn) is what got me to reread this.

A Hunting We Will Go.

When Katie and Her friends come up against vampires in Savanna they must find a way to make them leave and move elsewhere. But how do they make a thousand year old vampire with an addenda do that?
That is the question, and if you’re interested in finding out more then it’s a must read for you.
It’s a fun and a fast read that will keep your mind occupied for the entire time you are reading it and the ending is a little bit of a surprise when you’re not expecting a cliffhanger but it is worth it for laughs. So I think this book.

I'm really enjoying this series. The character development seems to grow with every book. As urban fantasy goes, fans of Mercy Thompson, Jane Yellowrock and Anita Blake will totally feel at home.

Katie Bishop's Dragon is unique and they are learning to work together.

A trio of vampires walk into her Tattoo Parlor bringing trouble in their wake. Katie must work with the local coven, the shifters and her own personal Superman to protect her home town.

Kicking Vampire butts!

There's trouble brewing, when isn't there lol, for Katie, Jackson and the gang.

Emmaline's Vampire dad has decided he wants her back and he's moving into the neighbourhood too.

Everyone else disagrees, BIG-TIME 😠😠

Jackson is still looking for the $4 million that Kaleb took from them.

Emmaline gets smitten with a demo God 😮😮

Finally that mouse gets caught 👍👍👍😁

Love Katie Bishop!

All of the books in this series are fantastic! This one is one of my favorites, it is scary and delves deeper into Emmaline and her struggles. Vampires, zombie blood, and craziness lol. I love all the characters and enjoy how each book opens up more on each of them. I can't wait to read the next.

Daddy vamp

This series is focussed on one Dragon Katie but she does seem to end up cleaning up others mess this book is about her half vampire friend and her dad coming to town plus sea bass had problems also.last book was Jackson's old crew. It's always about her when it Is not really. Because she is dragon. Would be nice if she had a long list brother the God guy kind.

Not sure where the character is going - Katie is now hooked on vampire blood in order to wake her dragon. Since it has always been part of her, why would she need outside stimulus? The detour to her now addiction status doesn't make sense. I still like the series but Katie doesn't seem to be growing; seems to do some really dumb things that endangers others.

Dark Nightingale, book four of the Katie Bishop series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). I liked the story line, but the two steps forward, one step relationship dance between Katie and Jackson is starting to wear on me. For as competent as Katie is, she seems to lose brain cells when contemplating a closer relationship with a really great guy.

Rats and Howlers and Dragons, oh my!

The fourth book in the series had a lot going on. There were many subplots that kept things interesting. I enjoy the characters and look forward to more from their adventures. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
