Immortal. Enslaved by an ancient god. Can she ever be free?
Obey and survive. Those have been the words that Tara has lived by for over a thousand years. She is Faeoihn, an immortal warrior for the goddess Eltera, but none of that matters when she’s cursed by one of the gods in her pantheon to serve as a slave for eternity.
All because of a single battle, lost over two millennia ago.
When an assassin appears in the dead of night to take her to a new master, she doesn’t fight, because when you’ve lived in darkness for so long it’s hard to believe in the light. But this handsome, all-too-mortal man, has his own demons and his kindness might just be the thing to wake Tara up.
No women. No kids.
Simple rules to live by, but they have let Alaric deal with the life he’s been given. A life of privilege, money, and power – as long as he takes the lives he’s told to. When his mentor sends him on a job to kill a man and kidnap a woman, he reluctantly accepts.
But once he’s face to face with this beautiful, strange girl, he’s not sure he can turn her over when the call finally comes. As Tara and Alaric clash, their pasts catch up to them in a whirlwind that is inescapable, forcing them to acknowledge the mistakes they’ve made and see that with each other they might find salvation.
Can Tara find the will to fight again? Can Alaric betray the only family he has left to protect her? Discover their destiny in this exciting dark, paranormal romance!
Publisher's note: Tara is the second book in the Daughters of Eltera series. It contains dark themes, slavery, violence, damaged heroes, and gods and goddesses. If those things don't interest you, please seek another book.

Just like the first, it is cheesy and yet entertaining and oh so hot. I loved this duology and I really wish there were many more like the dark hunter series. But alas, I enjoyed faye and tara all the same.
It's been a while since I was transported back into the world of the Faeoihn but I quickly caught back up. Tara has spent thousands of years as a slave to whoever claims/buys her, so when her current master tells her that she has been sold again she prepares herself for the worst. Never in her wildest dreams does she expect a man to swoop in and "rescue" her at the last moment. After all, she is a fierce warrior and immortal in her own right. But there is something about this white knight that calls to her.
Alaric has been raised as a mercenary and trained killer, who's only rule is no women or children. When he is called upon to collect and deliver Tara to her new owner he doesn't realize the implications of what he's about to do. In the short time that they have together, Alaric comes to realize that Tara is more than he thought and deserves so much better than the life she has been forced into. But can he walk away from everything he's ever known and risk his own life for her?
I thought this was a fantastic follow-up to book 1, Fae, and I'm really looking forward to seeing where this series goes.
Jennifer Bene draws us back into her world of living gods and goddesses with Tara. In Fae, we learned that Eltera took young women and turned them into nearly immortal warriors for peace, until the day they were defeated, and were cursed to be slaves forever. Tara was one of those women.
In the 2000 years that Tara has been a slave, she has learned how to detach and become the perfect slave. She learns to hide her emotions, fake what she should be feeling, and detach her self from what is happening to everything to her. All she needs is her music to get her through her nightmares and the dawn to bring Eltera's grace and healing.
Alaric is a young man who isn't really all that young. He's been trained for a decade to be a hitman. He just has one rule, no kids and no women. When his handler, Luca, sends him to kill Gianni and take the woman he finds there to a new person, he finds Tara. Gianni was her latest owner, and he just sold her.
So, what happens when a hitman with a conscience and a nearly immortal warrior get together? Well, for one thing, they spill a lot of blood together.
I enjoyed this story. It was a nice continuation of the Eltera storyline. Fae and Kiernan pop up from the first book, and you get to see how they are doing with the job that Eltera has set up for them to do. While this is lighter than some of Jennifer's other books, it isn't exactly light. Learning about Tara and what it took for her to get to the place where she can just accept what happens is heartbreaking. I really hope that a 3rd book manages to published somehow.
Now that I've finished the 2nd book in the "Daughters of Eltera" I can't wait for the next. The love story of Fae and Keirnen (sworn enemies) is amazing, and now to add Tara and Aleric is sublime. Give me a goddess like Eltera any day! I love the Celtic tales, the Faeoihn and the Locera; now to add Tir na nOg to the mix with fairies and pixies is very exciting. I also love the fact that the books contain erotic fantasy that is believable is wonderful. It does make me what to grind my teeth and throw the book across the room. I highly recommend this book!
So I wish I was a writer myself so I could express my feelings about this book half as well as Ms. Bene writes. First off, have you read Fae? If not, it was incredible! You really don’t have to read it to read Tara, but I pretty much guarantee you will want to go back and read it once you’ve read this one. So what’s to love so much about this book? Well first off, in a lot of series, one book can seem like the next. The books are fun to read, but the heroes and women are so similar. That is definitely not true in this one. Fae was fierce, a fighter, defiant, but protective. Tara is also a survivor, but she has adapted by becoming what she needs to be. In a lot of ways she was protective too (you’ll see.) She was different from Fae, but I loved her just as much. (And her story/past with Leonidas... OMG... I won’t spoil anything, but my heart..... there may have been crying involved.) And Alaric. Yes, Alaric... a man with a mission. But his mission changes. And really, there is sooooo much more to gush about. The story, as always with Ms. Bene’s books are complex (in the best ways). But I hate spoilers. Suffice it to say, I ignored laundry, dishes, all the chores, and sat on my couch engrossed in this book for hours until the very last word. I really REALLY hope Ms. Bene decides to write more about this world. It’s just so good. ❤️
Dare I say that I loved this one even more than I love Fae? Yes. Yes I do because I did. It is dark (as expected) and full of emotion. Tara is a wonderfully developed character and I love her inner strength. She has a way of accepting and letting go of her situation that is inspiring. She has total faith in Eltera and her inner dialogue shows that. The relationship between Tara and Alaric is full of intense interactions, passionate sexiness, and a connection that will pull at your heartstrings. The story isn't as dark as some of Ms. Bene's other books, but it is still a dark read. It sucked me in and has left me desperate for more.
If you like romance and are looking for something different, this is it. Sometimes i like to just get lost in a romance book. When you're married with kids sometimes romance is just forgotten. Sometimes it's just nice to get lost in a love story. This book has a little bit of everything. I liked the first book but i liked this one so much more! Sometimes a girl can rescue herself and this is a great representation of that. I wasn't sure when i read the first book, but by the time i was finished reading it I was hooked! After book two I am anxiously waiting for another!
An interesting new series dark romance gods and goddesses
This is the second book to a new series that is very interesting. It has strong dark themes, but it is a love story between two warriors who discover who they really are while fighting against evil and rescuing themselves and others.
It does include the couple from the first book as well. I wish we would have a few more scenes from the goddesses perspective.
Overall a very interesting book and I look forward to the next book coming out soon. Curious how many books will be in the series as well.
Jennifer Bene's Daughters of Eltera series is absolutely amazing. Having just finished "Tara", I'm awed as to the depth and breadth to this story (and series). There is so much going on from the mythos to the primary relationship between Tara and Alaric, which is fabulous in all the right ways. Okay, I'm realizing that I'm using far too many adjectives here and as much as I'm a fan of Ms. Bene's darker works, the books in this fledgling series were simply too good to put down and she definitely needs to pick it up again because I am so ready for more.
I thought this was a very strong sequel to Fae and I only gave four stars because if I hadn’t read Fae first, I really wouldn’t have had the background to appreciate Tara’s story as much as I did. If I could have given 41/2 I would have. This is another strong female character overcoming a dark and gritty life and it’s not always pretty or sexy. But boy when it’s sexy it hits the mark! I loved the interplay of modern and ancient times with the god/goddess curse aspect and wish we’d see more of that in future books. I will definitely be following Daughters of Eltera as a series.
Great book, I loved the whole storyline. Tara is an immortal warrior who has to live her existence as a slave as a punishment for her Goddess being defeated in battle 2 thousand years ago. Alaric is an assassin sent to steal her from her existing master and deliver her to her new one. Tara has gone through hell just to survive all this time and Alaric also carries his own demons, but together they find something to fight for. This was an exciting read, full of action and suspense. It was also great to see Neala and Kiernan From Book 1 in the story. Loved it!
Tara, an immortal, is cursed to be a slave to whomever claims her. One day she finds that her current Master has sold her to another, she has no idea that this will not be a usual trade.
Alaric is a human tasked to kill Tara's current Master and deliver her to her new one, even though he doesn't deal with women. But there is just something about her that calls him.
This is one wild ride!! I do love a magical story, especially when you throw in Goddesses and Gods!
For someone who doesn’t really read pnr, I’m really enjoying this series! This book was a strong continuation to the Eltera series. It can be read as a stand-alone but you get more background if you read Fae first. Same as in previous book, I instantly fell in love with main characters. They were both strong and complex characters and have lots to overcome to get their hea. The storyline wasn’t as dark as I’m used to from this author, but it was really emotional and as always beautifully written. I really hope there will be more books in this series!
This is the second book in the series although it can easily be read as a stand-alone, you may enjoy it more if having read book 1. Tara is a Faeoihn, and immortal but has been cursed by a god to be a slave for eternity. Alaric is an assassin and sent to deliver Tara once they meet will he be able to follow his orders? Fast-paced dark read with plenty of drama and suspense. The characters have amazing depth and emotion and they world created within is amazing. I loved it!
I have just finished Tara, I enjoyed the characters more then in Fae but I guess they resonated with me more, but in saying that I enjoyed both very much.
Now it's time to wait for the next book.... hopefully soonish? 🤔
I like that both book are lenghty (please keep this up), short books are tiresome.
I do like the different pen name for these books was a little confused to start with but thats cool I figured it out.
I loved this continuation of the Daughter’s of Eltera story. Tara and Alaric’s romance was super cute (albeit fast) and I love the fact that we got to see Neela and Kiernan in this book, as well. The only critique I have is that I wish some things in this book and been expanded upon further. I felt like this book left me with a lot of unanswered questions about Eltera, her abilities, and the curse.
Oh Goody! The continuation of this series is as expected from this author: That is to say that the story and plot continue to develop and I am once again amazed at the depth and complexity Jennifer Bene is able to imbue her characters with. This is no cookie cutter sequel. Tara and Alaric have their own unique difficulties to overcome. The plot continues to develop and I, for one, am hopeful that we will see a book 3.
This book engages your heart, mind and soul! It is imaginary world building at its best. It is unbelievably brutal and dark but that just offsets the gentle lightness that is also present. I love Alaric and Tara they are amazingly written characters that I fell in love with really quickly. Amazingly captivating read! I couldn't put it down! Can't wait for the next one!
This series just keeps getting better and better. The world building of all the different worlds, levels, and gods is phenomenal. This author knows how to tell stories that just take you to another place. I devoured every single page of this story. I didn’t expect some situations, even questioned it, and yet how Ms. Bene brought everything through was amazing.
I came across this series and have enjoyed every minute! Each book has been building to reveal the struggle, pain, strength and endurance each character is living through until they are gifted the greatest gift of all unconditional Love!!!! I cannot wait for book 3. Totally Can not wait to see where the series lead!!!
I am really enjoying this series so far! Tara and Alaric's story followed along nicely. I was expecting a little more action in the middle, but then things picked up and got really exciting towards the end. The chemistry between Tara and Alaric was definitely sizzling hot, and I love how the characters from book 1 appear in this book, which adds a cohesive layer to the cast.
While I definitely did enjoy this book, it did seem a little slow towards the middle. However, the action certainly picks back up at the end of the book! Honestly, what I'd be extremely interested from in this series is the goings on of Eltera and Gormahn!
What a story about god and goddesses. This story will take you back in time to a amazing story that will have you hooked al the way through this book. Hang tight because this book will have you drawn in and loving this addictive adventure.
Wow. What a story. This is almost a modern day fairy tale. It is very well written and you will fall in love with all the characters. It makes you wish you were immortal but without all the fighting. You will love this book and it is an HEA
Pnr are are my first love. This book was outstanding. I totally felt like I was there with these characters experiencing what they were experiencing. Jennifer's words do that to you. This is an amazing book.
Tara and Alaric what a great story, they create so much magic together!! Tara the beautiful Faeorin and Alaric the hot Hitman had me reeling with anticipation !! This is such a great series I hope there’s another installment !!
I love this type of Book....Love and Hate... Good and Evil. All different. Creatchers.. Gods..ect This is the kind of book that you read in one day and get the next and wait for the new book to come out.
Let me just say, I read a lot and PN is a go to for me. I always have 2 or 3 on my KU. This was excellent. Fresh plot and a bit darker than the 1st and thoroughly entertaining read. I truly hope we are introduced to new sisters.
loved this story. this is part of a standalone series and i so hope there will be more. this has lots of romance and suspence. i cant wait for the next sister.
