Batman and the Justice League Manga #2
Batman and The Justice League 2 2016 Vol.2
The manga adventures of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the Justice League continue here, as they battle Lex Luthor, the Joker and Ocean Master in Batman & The Justice League Vol. 2! Newly translated for an American audience.
Lex Luthor and The Joker have a new ally in their plan to take control of Earth's mystical Ley Lines--Aquaman's half-brother Orm, aka Ocean Master. Manipulated by the Joker and seduced by the potential power of the lines, Ocean Master hopes to crush the surface world and establish the supremacy of Atlantis. Aquaman's determined to stop him, but it's going to take the combined power of the Justice League to keep Orm in check, especially when he summons a tidal wave to engulf Gotham City. Meanwhile, young Rui is learning that his mother--who has been held prisoner by The Joker for the last year--now possesses great powers that may either save the world or destroy it.
Mangaka Shiori Teshirogi (Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas) creates an exciting new story, combining an authentic Japanese comics approach with the World's Greatest Superheroes. Translated into English in standard manga size trim and collected for the Western audience for the first time, Batman & The Justice League Vol. 2 is a phenomenal entry point for fans of the Justice League and manga alike!

There's very little story here. I read the entire thing in about 12 minutes. It's just Aquaman and Ocean Master puffing their chests out at one another for 200 pages. The art, while technically is well drawn, is very busy with so many effects on the page to often make it difficult to follow the action.

Slow to develop and the art is constrained, repetitious, and predictable to the point that one merely skims it while reading the brief dialogue.

This book feels like an Aquaman side story as opposed to a story about Rui, who is supposed to be the main protagonist and focus of the story.

Summary:
The manga "Batman and the Justice League Manga, Vol. 2" by Shiori Teshirogi continues the exciting combination of the iconic DC superheroes with the Japanese manga style. Following the events of the first volume, Teshirogi creates a unique interpretation of these beloved characters.
The second volume delves into the story centering on Rui, a young Japanese man who goes to Gotham City to find his missing parents. His path brings him into contact with Batman and the Justice League as they face a new threat that includes Aquaman's brother and the Joker. The evil duo plan to harness the power of Ley lines, mysterious energies beneath the Earth, for destructive purposes. Batman, along with Superman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the Justice League, work together to stop them and protect Rui.
Review
This particular manga is full of action scenes, and the pacing is generally well balanced. Teshirogi knows how to build tension, whether it's a fight scene or an emotional scene. The illustration is very detailed and vivid.
Thoughts:
It's the second manga I've read with superheroes from the Marvel and DC worlds and I'm excited. The marriage of Japanese and American elements is fantastic. I look forward to reading the sequel.

This book continues the JL expansion but this time focusing on Aquaman vs Ocean master and the emotions here make you feel. The gut punches betweetn the brothers is terrific. Loved every single minute of it. Also more revealtions on LOD members and ley lines and such good art! It keeps getting better only!

I like this for the same reason I liked the New Superman series. I LIKE seeing things that are going in a new direction and not the same stuff that's been covered for 70 years.

And just like that Batman is annoying again....
The story is picking up and getting to the classic DC action and cheesy punch-lines! The art is great and full of good emotions.

For shear weirdness, this takes the cake. Just a fun series filled both with manga tropes and superhero ones.

Dear lord woman, why did you have to make Orm so hot and sad? I think I have a type and this book made it plainly obvious.

O forse no…
Dall’altra ritroviamo i nostri eroi DC preferiti.

If you were someone who wasn't that invested at the end of the first volume, I would implore you to continue the series, as volume 2 is far better than its predecessor.
For one thing, more DC heroes join the fight, making the story much more of a fun DC fest. Seeing Batman and Superman in the first volume was cool, but having Wonder Woman and Aquaman be part of the core cast and offer their insight into the big conflict was a joy to see. Seeing a manga stylized Wonder Woman was an enjoyable surprise. She was the epitome of kawaii.
Also, something I forgot to focus on when reviewing the first volume, was how accurate these characters were. Batman was Batman, Superman was Superman, etc. Batman's relationship with Rui was a strength as well, seeing Rui's beliefs for peace at all cost contrast with the Dark Knight's violent night activities.
Rui was good in this volume, not overextending his welcome. I was worried he was just going to be a self insert Gary Stu, but he is balanced fairly well. He spends most of the volume on the sidelines, looking after his mother, only joining the battle with the others when he absolutely has to. It felt realistic and not like just another DC fanfic.
Also, the drawings in this volume were INCREDIBLE. Not only do the DC characters look awesome and hot, the action scenes were drawn well. In the first volume, I had a hard time understanding what was going on, but here I am aware of everything. The panels are placed well to where I can feel every punch and attack. Especially in the fights between Aquaman and his rival brother Ocean Master, which is good, since their fight takes up a huge bulk of the volume.
So if you like DC and manga, and read the first volume of the series and was hesitant to continue, I beg you to keep going, for this entry will surely grip you tightly and not let you go.

Batman is a popular, but niche character in Japan. A fair number of manga creators are big fans of Batman and his various incarnations, so every so often a licensed Batman manga appears. The big difference this time is that other superheroes are coming along for the ride.
Japanese teen Rui Aramiya’s parents are kidnapped, and he turns to the Justice League for help. In the previous volume, his mother Sayuri was rescued from the power plant where she’d been imprisoned by Lex Luthor and the Joker. However, her shrine maiden abilities have gone off the rails, making her dangerous.
In this volume, the focus shifts a bit as Aquaman’s brother Orm, the Ocean Master, escapes imprisonment and decides to wipe out Gotham City. Orm’s more powerful than ever before, especially when the Joker and new villain Akurou (who wears a theatrical Japanese demon mask) show him how to tap into ley lines.
A fair amount of time is spent on the emotional connection and misunderstanding between the two brothers Meanwhile, Batman continues to be very grumpy (Robin died recently) and only begrudgingly accepting the assistance of Superman and Wonder Woman. They’re de-emphasized this volume, but still get some nice moments.
The art is decent, a little heavy on the bishounen (pretty boy) end, which doesn’t work for all the characters.
Rui suffers some from being the Japanese insert character; he’s pivotal to the overall plot but kind of bland, while Akurou at least gets to be theatrical.
I recommend this volume primarily for Aquaman fans; it remains to be seen how well the rest of the series holds up.

I grabbed this because the library got it in and I didn’t want to write off the whole series after just one volume. However, after this one, I’m more than ready to say I won’t be picking up any more of this series.
The story continues to be incredibly nonsensical. It feels like the writer is familiar with the DC characters as concepts, but not with any depth. The “Justice League” (If it can be called that, since it seems to consist only of Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman) is misused, the story continues to revolve around poorly explained “ley lines,” (a concept that would be fine if they weren’t just an excuse to do whatever the plot demanded), and art remains questionable to bad. About the only positive thing I can say about this one is that all the characters on the cover actually appear in this volume, which gives it a step up on volume one.

I'm glad I stuck around, because the plot in this one is much more interesting. Most of it was about Aquaman and his brother, and all of those scenes were great. Admittedly, the Japanese folklore was merely a subplot in this volume, and that part of the story still feels retconned... But it's a fun read.

Much weaker volume
The artwork is stunning, and i really enjoy the creative take on these classic characters. The story, however, is lackluster, confusing, and all over the place. This volume also ends super abruptly, like mid-thought.
Read this for the art, not the story!

Not nearly as good as the first and very drawn out. Hoping it all ends well.

Eh, wasn't unpleasant, there just wasn't much here. Brothers yelling at each other. Hard to follow art. Maybe if it were in color? Felt like you could've done this all in 20 pages.

Chaotic art and a chaotic story did not make this a favorite. It was an easy was to spend 20 minutes but definitely not a repeat read.

The way it's structured makes it feel like panels or pages are missing, but I'm starting to get used to it. The mystery of the plot has me intrigued enough that I'm also forgiving some minor faults.

This improved when I realised that there was in fact a way to work the Comixology app for Manga. It suddenly became a far smoother experience to read.
The art is good, the story moves on apace and we see the Justice League come together. I particularly like the portrayal of the Joker in this collection. He seems both menacing and deranged.
The book was OK. At times it was hard to keep following it because of the style but not so much that it stopped me enjoying it. The ley lines / Magic stuff was not the best and everyone still looks soooo young but I did like some of the intricate line work and it certainly had its own identity.
It was a good read. Not great but fine.

Rui's mom attacks Wayne Manor and he tries to save Alfred from her. Wonder Woman, Superman, Aquaman, and of course Batman step in to save her. Wonder Woman uses her lasso of truth on her. Aquaman fights Orm, while Superman and Batman go after the Joker.

This is where the story loses me. Absolutely nothing was accomplished in this volume. The artwork continues to be good, but there was no substance to this volume at all. If I come across the others used I may pick it up, but I will not seek this out further. So disappointing.
