It's 1804 and the political elite are worried that the level of piracy in the Caribbean is beginning to affect the wealth of the nation. The French, Americans, Dutch, and Spanish are all preying on British merchantmen and the Royal Navy is stretched beyond its limits. Admiral Lord Hood, Head of Naval Intelligence, is asked to help out and sends Marty and his crew in an old Jackass Frigate, The Tempest, disguised as privateers, to infiltrate, disrupt and if possible destroy the pirates in their home bases. Discovering a French Government attempt to coordinate all the pirate groups against the British, Marty enters into a running battle with their agent. Life gets more complicated when his wife, the unstoppable Lady Caroline Candor, sails to his rescue and then refuses to go home. Building to a stunning climax where Marty makes Captain then has a sea chase and battle to capture a Spanish treasure fleet.
Biography I am descendent of a long line of Dorset clay miners and have chased my family tree back to the 16th century in the Isle of Purbeck. I have been a public speaker at conferences for most of my career in the Aerospace and Automotive industries and was one of the founders of a successful games company back in the 1990’s. Now in my sixties, and living in the Netherlands Antilles, I finally got to write the stories I had going around in my head for many years. Thanks to inspiration from the great sea authors like Alexander Kent, Dewey Lambdin, Patrick O’Brian and Dudley Pope I was finally able to put digit to keyboard and start writing the Dorset Boy series. I make no apologies that I write for myself. The stories emerge as I write and I am often surprised by the twists and turns that they take.
Before you read this one, please realize it is a continuation of a series: you will need to read the series in order or the characters / plot may not make much sense to you. This isn't your typical historical fiction novel as it focuses in on the continued life and travails of a young man. There is good interplay between the characters and the author certainly knows how to tell a story. You will also get a taste of old-fashioned ship battles as well as a little bit of a history lesson. I am reading each of these in order, going to the next one immediately and can’t seem to put them down. I picked this up for “free” with my Kindle Unlimited subscription vs. the regular price of $3.99 – I certainly received more than $3.99 of entertainment value and I am sure you will, also.
Another enjoyable read following Martin and his crew. I usually do a fast, first read through on a book. If very good, I'll find myself reading through it again later. So far I've read The Dorset Boy books 1 & 2 twice, 3 & 4 three times each. Since I quickly skim when reading, I tend to later reread the parts I initially flew by. I can tell already that I'll be back into Martin's story soon....
A Boy's tale, written at fifth grade level. He has hurricane season in W. Undies starting in November - hurricane season in northern hemisphere begins in June, ends in November. You'd think someone writing sea tales happening in the Atlantic would know that simple fact.
Again another brilliant book. I cannot believe these books have not been made into a t.v. series. I would and have recommend all of Christopher's books to all. Thank you.
As above. Should be made into a t.v. Series. As good if not better than anything Ment has written. I have and would recommend these books to all.
This was so poorly written that I imagined a middle school English teacher assigned it as a class project. It was one I had to speed through reading only the topic sentences to finish.
Marty now has a fleet to help him clean out the pirates from the Caribbean. Caroline eventually joins him and they make a proper job of it. Lots of bad guys smitten severely, even fatally and new allies found. Fast and enjoyable entertainment with lots of tactical and weaponry innovations
It was a pleasure to read this instalment of the Dorset Boy. Enjoyed every part of the story Looking forward to the next book hopefully being released soon
Great writing once again by this clever author. Full on action with hardly taking a breath. Makes for a great book. The Dorset boy is a very lucky man!
With names like these there is only one thing that can happen….. incredible sea battles, gun and cannon, and sailing skills !
Incredible action and tons of action and pathos. A damn fine read that will keep you turning page after incredible page ! This is one hell of a saga !!
This is another from a great series of books by Christopher C tub. All these books are excellent reads. I read a lot of age of sail series and this rates near the top.
