Stella O’Neil has found a treasure of a house to list... a house possibly full of treasure, that is. Her new listing is a bank repossession that belonged to a man who skimmed a LOT of money from his wealthy software clients and the rumor on social media is that he stashed piles of cash in the house before he disappeared. And people will stop at nothing to search it out. Even murder.
If keeping treasure hunters out of her listing and avoiding being killed wasn't enough drama, Stella has finally found her mom. Her long lost mother that no one wants to talk about. While Stella wants to go to her immediately, her hunky new policeman friend warns her there are things she doesn't know. Yet. Stella is determined to do it anyway. She's come this far piecing together the family history, she has to know the rest. But will she regret it?
Mid-Century Modern Murder is Book 5 in the Flamingo Realty Mystery Series. This is a stand alone book but it is more fun to read the entire series and get some more backstory.
This series keeps getting better and better, if that is at all possible. Stella O’Neil is back and she has a new house to list. It actually could be filled with treasure. Unfortunately that treasure was from the previous owner who stole money from his clients and once word gets out EVERYONE wants in that house including treasure hunters.
Favorite quote "All my hard work was unraveling faster than a cat pulling at a knitting ball of yarn".
I absolutely LOVE a mystery within a mystery, and new things are revealed about Stella's family, specifically her mom but everyone is trying to stop her saying she will regret it and there are too many secrets.
This book is so good and well written. There is a complexity here to the writing that is so well done. There is a cold case that may be tied to Stella families past , not to mention the treasure hunting in her new listing.
I love the characters in this book. Stella is kindhearted, determined, quirky and complex. Stella's Dad is one of my favorites, always trying to keep Stella in check but she has her own ideas about solving the mystery not only about the listing but her own family. Carlson is a great character that I love reading as well.
Okay, lets talk about the end. My heart was racing. That was so exciting. Honestly, so good! I look forward to the next book in this amazing series.
A potential buyer of Stella's latest listing has a question about a rumored death that happened nearby. The current owners know nothing about it, so Stella decides to do a little investigating of her own. She learns that a girl, who was a state swimming champion, had drowned in the river 20 years earlier. What is even stranger is that the police pretty much hushed up the case with virtually no investigation. The girl who drowned, Chelsea Parker, was actually the daughter of the Police Chief, Derek Armstrong.
Was it just a coincidence that Chelsea's death was just the week prior to her mother's arrest for killing an FBI agent? The more Stella researches the girl's death, the stronger she feels that there is a connection.
How did Chelsea really die? Was she murdered or was it an accident? Why did the police close the case so quickly? Is Chelsea's death related to her mother's imprisonment? Can Stella solve the mystery of the girl's death?
CeeCee James has another winner with this installment of the Flamingo Realty series. Although each mystery is complete within itself and can stand alone, there is an ongoing family background story that makes the series best read in sequence.
Stella's waited for a long time to hear news of her mom and now that she knew she was alive, she was determined to visit Vani in prison. But she soon felt there was something hinky going on there which might've been what a good friend was trying to warn her about.
There were some buried secrets that came out in this book, and Stella almost bit the big one while in the hospital for some injuries of her own. Thanks to some quick thinking, she once again survived to fight another day. A lot of healing in her family took place in this book, and I really loved reading about them facing things together as a family like Stella always wanted. Will be getting to the next book soon.
Stella's drive and determination to reunite her family takes center stage in this delightful mystery where she also investigates the mysterious death of a teenage girl two decades ago. Somehow, she thinks, it fits into the puzzle surrounding her imprisoned mother's curious case.
This book was so much better than previous books in the series. I waited a while before reading this one because while I liked the story of Stella, earlier books were fraught with inconsistencies that made them frustrating and hard to read. I now can't wait to read the next one.
Another reviewer wrote, “I have loved this series from the first book, and each one is better than the last! CeeCee James is a master at building suspense and leaving you anxious for the next book.” I agree 100%. I am hooked on this series!
Stella is curiosity is aroused when a prospective buyer asks about the drowning of a teen girl years ago near the home they may be interested in touring. When Chelsea begins asking questions about the death, her curiosity is piqued when it appears that the death may have been more than the accidental drowning that the former police chief ruled. Also, she has a sneaking suspicion that this girl’s death may be somehow related to her mother’s past and current problems. She is more determined than ever to find the truth. Will that determination land her in mortal danger, fighting for her life?
On the home front… Chelsea is determined to connect to her mother now more than ever. She is also determined to force the male members of her family to communicate again. Stella wants her family to function as a healthy family. Individually, her father, uncle, and grandfather interact with and support her very well. But she will not be satisfied until they are communicating and supporting each other as well. I definitely detect a bit of romance in the air. I’m just not sure yet from which direction the air is blowing.
This is a fun, clean, and easy read. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys an entertaining whodunit with a whisper of romance.
"I remember back then how anxious I’d been for the time to pass. Kind of like how I felt now. It seemed like life was a series of hurry up and get there spurts over and over."
As she diligently looks for the answer to a purchaser's innocent query about a house, Stella uncovers the mysterious drowning of a young high school swim champion. The further she looks into this anomaly, the more convinced she becomes that this seemingly unconnected event has bearing on her own mom's incarceration for murder.
Join Stella as she struggles against attempts to block her investigations and outright attempts at murder to reach her shocking conclusion!
Another exciting entry into the Flamingo Realty series that will have you waiting impatiently for the next one. Highly recommend!
[I received a copy of this book from the author, for an honest review of the book. The opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.]
A really good, easy to read, cozy mystery set at the Flamingo Realty Company in Pennsylvania. Stella has moved back to her home town to work with her Uncle at his realty company and is tasked with selling a house which has a sad past, the daughter of the family died in a swimming accident, but Stella is suspicious as the girl was a school swimming champion.
As she delves further, she realises this may have a link to the ongoing story running through all these books, the incarceration of her Mother for murder many years previously.
Stella is also trying to reconcile her family, her Father, Uncle and Grandfather who became estranged many years before.
These books are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series.
...but, well, nothing happened. I like the author's writing style, I like the characters, and I am hooked on the mystery! Yet, the whole book was just a lead-up to a climax AND THEN IT ENDED. This book is just filler and I am very disappointed. My recommendation is to just wait for the next book before you read this one (or just skip this one) so that you will have a complete experience. Of course, that's assuming the next book will have some actual substance. Bleh. Personally, I am sick of being strung along by this author and this will be my last purchase of her material.
A fun, heartwarming story following Stella as she tries to bring the men in her life (dad, grandad & uncle) together and get the mom she barely knew out of prison. A small town filled with characters always ready to help, gossip or maybe commit murder. I enjoy the stories of Stella's troubles and Carlson doing his best to keep her safe. Looking forward to another adventure, hopefully with a little romance with Carlson!
Stella is a real estate agent in Florida who is trying to sell a mid-century modern house. Unfortunately the buyers are concerned about the mysterious death of a teenage girl right around the corner. When Stella begins to dig around she discovers not only the answers to the girl’s death but that there is a connection to her family. This is a complicated story that is both fun and interesting.

Well, Stella makes it her mission to find out more about the drowning. As she investigates further, her own mother is some what involved. Causing the investigation to get more it and more complicated that someone tries to hurt Stella. Will she survive?
Then there is her family. Will her father, Uncle Christ and her grandfather, Oscar be in the same every get together?
I so love this series and all the characters in it. In this book Stella gets deeper and deeper into the past of her life. She finds out more details about her mom which in turns she uncovers a separate murder. Can things get any crazier for her?
I'm revolted that I like this series, because it annoys me that it is episodic. I did not know this when I began reading the first book. But now I want to know what happens in the O'Neill family saga and paying more than I want for the privilege! Ugh!
I really enjoy CeeCee James, especially the Flamingo Reality Mysteries! Just having finished the 5th in the series, I am already looking forward to the next book (in fact I’ve pre-ordered it!). This is a fun series to follow with quirky characters and suspenseful plots and I eagerly read each as they come out.
Stella begins visiting her mother in prison and her grandfather, uncle and father estranged are finally brought together as they work at getting her mother's. crime of killing an FBI agent proven unfounded. Wil the three men in her life and she succeed or will more trouble occur as she works at an additional puzzle an added death stirs up.
Ok I'm hooked on this series by CeeCee James and can't wait till the next book if you love a great cozy with characters you will love and a story that keeps you turning the page then this series is a must read
So now that most of what really happened to Stella's mom has come to light, we need to move on to the next book. I'm sure it will let us know everything that really happened so her family can work together to get her freed.
5 books in and I am still hooked. 😀 Cee Cee James has me wanting more with each venture slowly unravelling Stella's past. I am here for the entire journey however long it takes. Love this series.
Mid Century Modern is a fantastic book. I've loved everything I've read by this author, and I think this may be my new favorite. Stella is a wonderfully lovable character and I can't wait for the next book in this series!
I read this book in a day as was just so into it. Great story and great dynamic characters. Author draws you into the drama. Love Stella and look forward to seeing what happens next.
This was a mystery that started out cozy and became spellbinding. The surprises are plentiful and the characters are heartwarming. The mystery you won’t see coming. Definitely five stars.
