The Perfect Boss

Rate this book

She’s completely off-limits.

But my brother won’t stop trying to set us up.

I’d been a playboy all my life.

That is, until she came along.

Tami Johnson…

Her curves, and her deep green eyes.

One-night stands have become a thing of the past.

She’s all I care about now.

But she’s innocent.

My assistant.

And way younger.

I’m the last man she should be with.

At the same time, though…

I’m the only man who’d do anything for her.

She’s supposed to be mine.

I’m way too obsessed to let her go.

Especially now that she’s pregnant.

I’ll do whatever it takes to claim my family.

Ugh, sadly weird and boring.

The Perfect Boss is kind of one of those books that you should judge by it's cover. It probably makes zero sense..but that's what I'm going with. How could a book give me such a beautiful man on the cover.. but then deliver such annoyance in a book? I honestly didn't even care about the main characters or their love interest because I was too busy being annoyed at everything and everyone.

So this book had some bullying in it, but it wasn't even between the love interests. Nope, it was from some jealousy ass women who were annoying as fuck. Ugh, those little twatwaffles shouldn't have jobs to begin with. Other than that, the two main characters were okay. Weird but okay.

Again, I had zero interest in the love between these two. Throughout the book, I was bored, annoyed, and completely frustrated. Not a lot happened, unless you count them going at each other rather quickly.. but other than that -nada. I wish I loved this book (heck even liked it) more than I did, but I didn't. There was no redemption for me.

While I love a bit of drama in my office romances, this one was over the top and frustratingly unbelievable.
The actual attraction between Brad and Tami, his temporary assistant was sweet and built up nicely.
It was a a little aggravating to see the mean office girls openly attack Tami in front of their boss and get away with the nasty things that were blatantly said.
Instead of calling a stop to the harassment, it went on and on escalating to the climatic reveal of the crazy woman behind it all. Then that drama went on and on. I couldn’t enjoy the actual romance when both Brad and Tami were caught up in the victim mode for far too long. This started out with Brad and Tami being a sweet and sexy couple, but the drama, slow pacing and waffling back and forth changed them into a weak and boring couple instead.
Not my idea of a satisfying office romance.

The Perfect Boss is the beginning of a new series about six brothers, "The Smiths". This is the story of the eldest brother, Brad, who had to grow up quickly when his parents were killed when he was nineteen and he became responsible for the business as well as his five younger siblings. He is now 35 with only one brother left in high school. He is bored with one night stands and ready to try something else. When his brother, Angelo, makes him take on an assistant, Tami, she is more than he bargained for and the sparks were there the first time they touched. There is lots going on in this story with some good twists and turns. Will they be able to keep their relationship working with issues in the workplace, jealous ex-lovers and much more to complicate the situation. The book did seem a bit repetitive at times though I am glad I stuck it out until the end. Looking forward to reading more about the Smith brothers

This was a complete surprise book for me. When it starts, it seems like it is going to be an off limits taboo office romance. Then you get into some crazy psycho behavior and attempted murder? Well when you can get smutty love story and criminal behavior, its a giant win for me. Now I did take off a star because it did drag on for a bit and some of the things that happened were pretty far fetched.

In this book the main male character has had a rough life after losing his parents at a young age and being responsible for his five siblings. He had been living the bachelor life for a long time until his brother makes him take on an assistant for a week. That is when we meet Tami. She is young, much younger than he is, very smart, talented and hard working. Their initial meeting doesnt go as planned but they have a whole week to make up for it.

The story of a boss, five brothers, a beautiful and sexy assistant that the brothers chose for the boss, and instant lust is this book all in one sentence, except I can't leave out a fatal attraction literally psycho woman!!! Fatal Attraction all over again!

Brad is the eldest of 6 boys and from the age of 19 he raised them. Tami is a beautiful, sexy yet competent woman. Two of Brad's brothers practically

This was a good read. Tami works for Brad and has wanted him. Eventually they get together but things don't go as planned. Brad seems to have a crazy ex and she tries to ruin everything. Thankfully in the end they get their HEA.

2.5 Stars. Dialogue overly cheesy, characters feelings jump around quite a bit. Feels like there are gaps in storyline. Needs a more depth 🤷🏻‍♀️

WOW. This is a terrific book. It’s action-packed, fast-paced, full of mystery and intrigue and the chemistry between the main characters is off the page. The story is about Tami and Brad. Brad runs his family company and Tami is one of the creative employees who usually works for his brother Angelo. Angelo wants Tami to work as an assistant to Brad because he believes Brad and Tami are made for each other. I found myself absolutely hooked by this story. I became very invested in their situation and could empathise with their feelings throughout. I was quite amused by the insecurities of both Brad and Tami, but I as enthralled by the intrigue and mystery in regard to their relationship. I highly recommend this book, because of its unique storyline and believe, you’ll love it as much as I did.

Steamy office romance

Brad was left to raise his brothers as well as fun the family business when his parents died. This has left him looking for nothing serious on the personal front because his life already was full of complications.

In walks Tami for a week because she's been sent to help Brad out. They start off to a rocky start but as the week progressed and they get more comfortable with each other the heat also becomes irresistible.

As they both begin to realize how great they could be together something (or rather someone) seem dead set on tearing them apart. You'll run the full gambit of emotions as you navigate through, you might even get frustrated, but trust me it's worth it in the end. :)

I wanted to like this book and I think it is the only one I have read from this author the storyline had promise but this book was just so hard to stay engaged in. It's not the young age back and forth that was fine there are lots of people in their twenties that are more mature than those in their forties. My issue was that it was so hard to like Tami at first I thought ok she can come into her own but the more I read the more I just wished the book was over her hangups were just too much and this book is a little too out of reality. The mean girls there is no way in life they would have lasted as long as they did or that in any realm they are the villain would have ended up the way they did to act on Tami it just was too much. I liked the brothers and I liked Brad however even he was too wishy-washy for me I would have fired some of those employees' right from the start. I am not sure if I read another book by Brenda and I have to look and see if this is one of her first I hope it is because the plot has a chance it just was not executed right so maybe a few books in she will have worked that out.

Weak characters...

The storyline was promising but the characters were too weak. The guy was too weak, wimpy, and pathetic. He has low self esteem and weak. He always has to ask his brothers for advice. The mc heroine was weak too. Couldn't connect with the characters. Got tired of the insecure and wimpy mc. DNF...

Could Have Been Good But Too Long.

This had the potential to be a great story but it was too drawn out and long so I started skimming to get to the end. A few editing mistakes but not as bad as other authors I will no longer read. It was a nice story and they got their happy ever after but had to overcome a lot. As for the mean girls, they were bullies and should’ve been sacked.

I always say that I can read anything, but apparently, that isn't true. This was rife with grammatical mistakes and although some people would say that doesn't matter in the scope of things, they'd only be fooling themselves, because it does.

There Is So Much Wrong With This Book

First, some of the wording/slang and sentence structure seemed off. Was this supposed to be set in the U. S. or someplace else? Things like referring to people as "mate" and talking about "taking the piss out of" someone are not typical American colloquialisms. So that kinda bugged me.

Second, the blurb for this book had nothing to do with what actually happened in this book. The blurb got a few things right:

*His brother did push to set him up with Tami;
*Tami was younger and an "innocent";
*She should have been off-limits because she was his employee

That's it.

The blurb makes it sound like Brad had to go through some stuff to win over a pregnant Tami, like he had to fight to claim his family. Her pregnancy doesn't occur until the end of the book...in the last chapter. It was a non-issue.

The stuff that did happen in the story was just...stupid. Now, I can understand and believe that Crazy Maria was deluded about her "relationship" with Brad, but the way they did things...just dumb! For example, when Brad takes Tami's cell phone back to her house and Tami doesn't want to let him in because Maria was there...If Maria was such a threat, and if Tami was so afraid (she says she wasn't going to let Brad in because she was afraid of what Maria might do to him), then why didn't her dumb a$$ just leave the apartment while she was at the door with Brad??

Maria shows up in Brad's hospital room. He starts to push the call button for a nurse. Maria says something like "You don't want me to hurt anyone else, do you?" Brad's dumb a$$ drops the button...choosing to stay in his room alone with Maria. WTF? What did he think she could do to the nurse...and did he think she'd get away with assaulting a nurse in the hospital? And when she left his room, why didn't he call Tami to warn her...or call one off his brothers to go protect Tami...or call the police? I've never been in a hospital room that didn't have a phone ...

It was just one dumb thing after another. It was so frustrating to read. The main characters were so bad, I couldn't bring myself to care about what happened to them.

On top of all this, even giving credit for this being written in a non-American slang (and that's just my guess), the writing was horrible. There were SO many typos...misspelled words...extra words in sentences...poor punctuation.

Oh.My.Word! UGH!

I was initially interested in reading this entire Smith Brothers series. Now, I'm not so sure.

What happens?
To be quite honest I can't explain exactly what happens because its a jumble but I'll try anyway.
Brad is given Tami as an assistant because Angelo (another brother) believes that they'd make a good match. They end up having sex on his desk and someone sees and starts to bully Tami because Brad promoted her after they had sex. Below is a quote from Angelo, if I could have copied the whole page I would have because it was just mind numbing....
“Oh, fuck these lot!” he suddenly blurts out, shocking everyone. “Brad, I know that you’re telling the truth. You didn’t pick Tami to be promoted because you like her, those are two separate issues, and I think that deep down everyone else knows that too. You’re the best boss any of us could ask for, but it’s time to put yourself first. So, go after Tami. If she’s who you want, then none of this matters.”

Oh and she was a virgin. Sighing and rolling my eyes, he didn't notice wow.
“I was a virgin until Friday night.” I gulp down the terror. “I’m sorry, I should have…”“Why did you lose your virginity to me?” He pulls me tighter instead of letting me go. “Because it felt right. Because I haven’t ever felt like this about anyone before.”

Really?
"But Brad is too sexy, too good, so I can’t remain where I am."

This is the nurse's reaction to him saying he was attacked...
“I…” She glances behind her in shock. “I will go and see what I can do. Try and stop this woman."

I mean it is jealousy but she also did sleep her way to the top?
"You don’t deserve this. I mean, none of them even have a good reason for doing what they have done, do they? Just jealousy. That’s it. Hayley obviously doesn’t like not being promoted; Tawny doesn’t like not being seen as the prettiest here. Beth and Amy… well, I think they might have just been dragged along for the ride, not that it excuses their behavior.”

Final thoughts
This was painful like seriously how has this got a series?

Don't bother, in fact run from this book.
Would I read again?: No no no no
Would I read this author again?: see above!!!
Would I continue on with the series?: Nopes!

Brad Smith so deserves his HEA. This was a cute story and it was a nice introduction to the Smith brothers!

Thirty-five year old Brad Smith was born to his sixteen year old parents and was an only child until he was thirteen. His parents went on to have five more boys before they were killed in a crash. At nineteen, Brad took over the family marketing firm and custody of his five siblings, ages two to six. With the youngest now eighteen, the younger brothers have recognized Brad's sacrifices and decide it is time for Brad to step back and find happiness.

With that in mind, Brad's brother pawns his PA off on Brad for one week, announcing that she is a perfect match and hoping one week working together will open Brad to the idea and have him turn his back on his empty one night stand lifestyle. The problem: she is twenty-two. Brad thinks the age gap is an insurmountable problem.

Tami Johnson is alone. She has no siblings, her father passed away, and her mother moved away and has a new family. When she meets Brad, she can barely stand him. But by the week's end, she and Brad discover they have a lot in common. Sparks begin to fly.

Brad and Tami's story is sweet. The office politics were overboard, though. The environment became toxic, which made you wonder why nobody from HR stepped in. Brad's handling of the problem made him look very week - not ruthless. There were also intimate scenes in the office that seemingly had doors left open, which felt conveniently contrived. The story takes an unanticipated shift. Tami's response is callous, which was disappointing and felt unnecessary. Finally, there are a number of errors and typos that sometimes distract from the story.

Regardless, I look forward to reading more about the Smith brothers.

Ms. Brenda Ford has never disappointed me with anything she has published and The Perfect Boss is just another example of her incredible talent and creativity.

I don't know why I took time to read some of the reviews written and I was quite surprised by other reader's reactions and reviews. While I try, extremely hard, never to give away any part of the plot, because I do not ruin it for reader's... Here is my opinion...

This release definitely has a wide range of emotions throughout and I found quite a few relatable instances within the storyline. From cover to cover, I sat completely engrossed in this superbly designed book. Brad has known pain and tragedy in his life, just as his Brothers have. He is currently running the Family business and it looks as though his Brother, Angelo, was meddling & has sent Tami his way. Tami is tasked with being Brad's assistant and there is so much chemistry between these two amazing characters you can almost 'feel' it. However, there is so much more to this release. There is drama/intrigue as well as absolutely horrid office workers (you know the type... mean girls) that definitely need to be put in their place. Overall, I thought it was an incredible and easy to read as love story. I encourage all romance junkies, like myself, to follow along as Brad and Tami find their HEA.

I was beyond fortunate to have requested an advanced reader's copy of The Perfect Boss in exchange for my honest/voluntarily given opinion and have done so to the best of my ability. Ms. Ford, I loved this release and look forward to reading about the rest of the Brothers.

I can't wait to see what is next for this Family.

Tami is to be working as the assistant for the CEO of the company for a week and she's dreading it because he is a hard man to work for. Brad doesn't like to delegate his work so that makes him very picky about who he let's help him. Sparks fly between them whenever they are with each other. However they both fight it until they finally give in. However someone that's a threat to them manages to makes their relationship known to everyone. This creates hostility for Tami and her co-workers which sends her into a meltdown. Will Brad and his brothers be able to find the threat to them before its too late? Can the hostile environment at work be dealt with?

This is a great story once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Exceptional! This is one wild ride! It is a well written, fast pace, and action-packed mystery romance! The storyline is well-thought out, witty, funny; and it is bursting with violence, suspense, bullying, crazy, and intrigue. The characters Brad and Tami are strong and likeable; their chemistry is intense and off the charts. This story grabs your attention from the start and keeps it until the end … you will find yourself completely engrossed in the interesting plot. I love the ending and look forward to reading more from this author (hopefully about Brad’s brothers). Definitely recommended - A Must Read!

A great ! Brad 35, (both of his parents died in a car accident when he was 19. He the took responsibility for all 5 of his younger brothers, ages 2-6). Now they all work together and the younger brothers try to set Brad up with a suitable woman. Tami 22, Isn't interested in Brad. He's much older and he's her boss. Tami gets assigned to be Brad's PA for a week Brad isn't interested in Tami. Should Tami give Brad a chance ? Brad is a responsible man, he knows how to raise children. The storyline is well written and filled with plenty fun, steam, sex, twists and turns. The characters are very likeable. I enjoyed reading this book. I highly recommend this book. I read this book through an arc program and this is my opinion of the book.💖🐧💋

Brother’s Intuition

This was an enjoyable read about Tami, a 22 year old with her v-card intact, working for a marketing firm headed by Brad Smith, who infuriates her or so she thinks. When she works as his assistant for a week at the suggestion of one of his five brothers, she finds he’s nothing like his reputation, and he learns she is definitely due a promotion. They also learn that they have a burning sexual chemistry that they cannot deny. When they move on that desire, all hell breaks loose and they are fighting negative influence within the company as well as outside that is working to break them apart. The storyline moved slowly at times with a bit too much angst, but the HEA epilogue redeemed this book to a 4 star rating despite some editing errors.

This is dramatic, intense and sweet. Alex is the lead singer of a band, and a man in a downward spiral. He did something he believes is unforgivable to his twin brother, even though his brother forgave him, and now he drinks to forget. Freya is a pop singer turned rock star and she's going on tour with Alex's band. Alex is livid when he learns that she's the opening act, calling her a pop princess who will lip-synch instead of sing live, and will turn his bands fans off. Freya thinks he's hot, but a complete jerk. But the more time they spend together, the more they learn just how wrong they both were. It's a long story about love, addiction and redemption.

I actually couldn’t finish this one. It was hard to follow along.
It was as though the author couldn’t find a writing style they wanted to use, and went with a bunch of them.
Came across a number of spelling and grammatical errors, so possibly just a good editing could really help the book become a better read. But then it was also hard to follow because I couldn’t tell where it was taking place. There were slang terms that sounded like it was in England, then in the south (reckon), then a young group trying to be cool “true that” so it became hard to take the characters seriously and try to connect with them.
Here’s hoping that some editing can happen and make this a really good read, because it seems like the characters can have some good potential.

This was a great read! Brad Smith is the boss of his family marketing business. He is gorgeous, moody, and a complete playboy. His brother, Angelo, sticks Tami Johnson working with him all week. He doesn't think he needs an assistant even for a week. But he knows Angelo and he is up to his matchmaking again. But once Brad spends time with Tami he starts looking at her in a different light both work and personal levels. They have sex both in the office and out. Someone is trying to blackmail them but who? What is really behind the potential threats? Will it keep them from their happily ever after?

I have not read a romance book like this in a long time. Not only was the story between Brad and Tami perfect, but I didn't expect to have the suspense that it did. Just when I thought the story was going one way, it took a different turn. I found myself lost in the book and couldn't put it down. The closer I got to the end, the more I knew I had to stay up and finish it. One thing I realized after reading this book is that Brenda Ford has to tell the stories of the brothers also. I would recommend this book to all my friends and family.
