This was a so so read for me. I had a hard time feeling any kind of loving feelings for the hero. He came across as an absolute asshole. I feel that an anti-hero has to be written in a way that you sometimes can see a bit of vulnerability shine through his villainous behaviour, and that did not happen in this book. There is another book coming out, and I do want to read it. I’m hoping that I will get to see more of his good side!!

I will refrain from saying too much more, until I read the second book! Hopefully it will focus more on the main couple falling in love, rather than the hate they feel for one another! Fingers crossed!

I've always been a fan of this author's books (more or less). She has an easy way to her writing that pulls you in right from the start. It was also a relatively short book, so the plot moved along at a good clip. The plot itself was intriguing. An enemy to lovers type of tale. Although, we are still mostly in the enemies part by end of part one. (lol) Still the couple had some decent chemistry, which makes me excited to see where the story goes in the book two.

description

I was a little surprised by the lack of heat in this book. I am used to this author's books being sizzling and dirty, but this one was much tamer in that department. However, I am sure the "sizzling" is coming. There was no OW or OM drama. I didn't find this particularly angsty, but there are a lot of acrimonious exchanges between these two.

description

Which leads me to the main issue I had with this book, and that was Easton himself. I'll admit it...I didn't like him. I didn't quite understand why he blamed Charlotte for something her father did. And the reason he was angry with Charlotte (a perceived slight) was pretty lame (IMO). Considering he saw what happened to her when she was a girl and stood up to her father, it seemed a little over the top to have that much anger towards her. Her father, ya, fine...I got that part, but the way her treated Charlotte through the whole book rubbed me the wrong way. Now, Charlotte herself I LOVED. She didn't bow down (most of the time) and I loved that about her. I was cheering her on at the end of this one and I can't wait to see what she gets up to in the conclusion.

So a bit of a mixed bag with this one. Easton (and his behavior) was the main issue for me, and I am hoping we get a (little) softer Easton in book two to smooth out some of his rough edges. I want to feel that he has some feelings for Charlotte and it isn't all about revenge and control. So we'll see...fingers crossed and all that.

Excerpt:

Charlotte

I can barely breathe.
Not just because my corset is on so tight so they can hoist me into the wedding dress he selected for me … but also because I’m terrified. Terrified of the sparkling studs on my chest, the high-heeled peep toe pumps on my feet, the tiny silver tiara on my head, and the veil that hangs low over my curled hair.
These past few days have felt like a blur. I’m shaking as I stare at myself in the mirror, at that woman I’ve been forced to become. A woman who’s about to marry her biggest enemy. A man who took her like a prize.
Princess … he uses the name as an insult, but that same princess stares right back at me through this mirror. A princess who doesn’t belong in these shoes or these clothes, yet she has no choice in the matter. She’s getting married to the devil as a payment toward her father’s debt.
Sighing is hard when you don’t have any room to breathe and someone is pulling and tugging on your bodice, trying to fit you into the outfit they made from scratch by hand. I don’t blame Jill for trying; she had to make it work within a few days. That’s all the time he gave her … all the time he gave me.

This book is a mess. The story is promising. A dark involving kidnapping and BDSM. I like dark romance. This book misses every spot.

First the wording is.... cringe worthy. It keeps refering virginity to cherry. This is dark romance or romcom? Also it uses fondling instead of stroking.

Second, the character itself. I can not understand Ethan. He wants Charlotte to falls in love and wants him yet he is baffle with why Charlotte hates him. Hello dude, you kidnapp her? Ring a bell? Such a dump hero. And he is trying so hard to be dark and menacing

Third, the BDSM aspect. The author seems half out and half in with the BDSM aspect.

Overall I do not like this book. Good thing it is short audio book

I was so disappointed....
The characters didn’t have a clear portrayal and I couldn’t connect with any of them. One minute they showed indifference and the next cared for the other person’s feelings.
The storyline was poor and messed and the writing didn’t help at all.
Regarding the streamy scenes... I’d rather give you... a taste!!...
“Easton grabs another cinnamon roll and wipes it on my mouth, rubbing his cum all over it. Then he shoves it into my mouth, and says, “Now...eat up.” After staring him down for a few seconds, I take a quick, shallow bite and swallow it down. His cum doesn’t taste revolting. In fact, it tastes more like some kind of strawberry dipping sauce.” Charlotte

** 2.5 'forced' read **
Maybe because I've read better books in this 'category' that I felt this one to be too meh for my taste.
Almost everything was predictable.
From H's possessiveness till h's reluctance to accept her feelings for the so called cruel captive who literally brought the whole world at her feet🙄.

The writing style/expression too was average. I don't remember reading Clarissa Wild before but I don't plan to read it anytime soon due to the common plotting and average writing style.

In short the whole story was some Wattpad-ish version of damsel in distress who don't really feel like one but believe me she so is🙄.

I don't even want to read the second part of it .

This book has been on my to-read list since it came out. I’m nearly a quarter of the way in and I’m tapping out.
It’s nonsensical and contrived. I can’t read anymore. I know most of the reviews are really good so I’ll put it down to me being picky.

Nooooooooooo
I am gutted to have reached the end of the book, I'm not actually sure I'm capable of waiting for the next book.

I love Charlotte, she's so spunky . Easton, well I love him and hate him in equal measure ,much the same as Charlotte does.

I was intrigued after reading an excerpt of A debt owned. I was lucky enough to receive this Arc for an honest review.
Clarissa has a wonderful way of making you feel the lead characters emotions. This leads to a incredibly interesting read.

*spoilerish*
There are a couple of deliciously steamy seduction scenes, but the entire premise for the book is illogical and forced. Not only was Easton aware that Charlotte would be beaten if she spoke with him when they were teenagers, but also Easton’s father was not murdered by Charlotte’s father, even if he did have a heart atttack from overwork. If anything, Easton should be furious with his own father for taking the job due to the stipulation that they couldn’t work together. And it goes beyond belief that Easton would have murdered his business partners because they didn’t want to donate some of the profit to charity. Just as unlikely as the amazing welcome and gushing gratitude Easton recieved for bringing 2 boxes of books to a charity center in a country with far greater social equality (= far fewer poor people who are then given far more help by the government) than in America. Additionally, Dutch citizens generally speak English as well as they speak Dutch, so Easton’s reasoning that she won’t be able to communicate with anyone because she can’t speak their language is absurd. Not only that, but husbands can be and are prosecuted for abuse and rape in both Europe and America, so Easton’s repetitive threats that he owns her now that they’re married and can do what he wants with her body are both far-fetched and false. Also there is the idea that 2 of Easton’s guards would somehow know about their relationship and actually try to rape Charlotte during an active search for her right outside the house and that Easton would successfully shoot them without injuring Charlotte even though their heads were right next to each other despite only the occasional target practice, and that Charlotte would be impressed that he wasn’t even breathing hard after simply firing his gun. She was also miraculously spared being covered by blood and brains somehow too. Furthermore, there is the fact that if Charlotte stole Easton’s key, then his office would not have been locked since she left first.

Not only that, but other mafia-enemy-marries-and-seduces-unwilling-daughter books accomplish their mission with far more logic and zero cliffhangers. Easton and Charlotte’s father seem more like aggressive business owners as opposed to mafia kings. Also Easton is only 25 which means he went from working poor to a billionaire in about 5 years, which seems a little less than likely no matter how well his nightclub investments panned out. Perhaps he should have been a ruthless app developer instead.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I love the crazy that this author throws down, and when it’s the dark kind I’m all in and even though both Easton and Charlotte drove me batshitcrazy in equal measure, I was hooked. I kept turning the pages to see what would, or wouldn’t, happen next and was definitely not disappointed.

Now, as I’ve already said, Charlotte and Easton drove me batshitcrazy, and they did, but they also fascinated me. Charlotte wants to be independent and free and yet she’ll still bow down to the will of others and it isn’t done in a bad way, she isn’t a doormat per se and her reasoning is sound, but there were many times when I really wanted her to put herself first. Easton is...an enigma. He’s that weird mix of monster and saint and I don’t think he actually knows just which side of the coin he truly wants to be. He revels in both sides, but it’s situational ~ except when it comes to Charlotte and that is where things get convoluted.

As for the “Debt”. The trigger to their situation...I get it, kinda. I guess I can see why, but it’s still a slippery slope and has me going...hmmmm. But what is undeniable is that there is a connection between the two that goes beyond their situation and if they can both let go of the past, and even the present, that haunts them, then they just may have a chance at a still dark, but amazing HEA that will last a lifetime.

HIGHLY UN-RECOMMENDED!!!!

Pathetic, immature, annoying, unimpressive in any way possible. It was so bad. I don't know how i endured the torture of reading this book. The writing and events were so forced and all the dialogues and situations were so fake. Some writers write what their characters do ir say, but some writers writer what they think their characters should do or say because they get inspired from other natural writer. That was the case with this book. It has all the characters you are supposed to find in any dark read but there was no character in those characters. I hated all of them for being so shallow. I would have given it more stars even if all the characters deserved the hate they got from me for being true to their personalities or being not shallow. God!! I am so annoyed i can't even make sense of what i want to tell you. But this book is BAD!!! If dark is not your genre but you want to still take that leap, please DON'T READ THIS ONE. If Dark IS your genre still DON'T read this one. Do yourself this favour

The only way to get through this book is to read it as a thriller and pray for the FBI to bust in and rescue the poor heroine and then for somebody to ensure she gets therapy... lots of therapy. The hero’s reasoning for being mad at the heroine is nonsensical at best and psychopathic at worst. There is no character development and the heroine wastes time feeling bad about being ‘mean’ to people who are holding her captive. Shank them all and bathe in their blood Charlotte!!! Now is not the time to be missish!!! Then to add insult to injury the book ends on a cliffhanger. I’m all for a little darkness in a romance now and then but this book missed the mark for me big time.

*deep breath in* Okay... another cleansing breath and we can begin. Oh boy, I was excited for this story immediately after reading the blurb and once I begin reading, I was sucked down into its pages immediately. Just like Easton does with Charlotte, Clarissa Wild slowly seduces me with her words, carefully enticing me without my realising how easily I've succumbed. She has done a fabulous job in crafting the story to flow so effortlessly.

Charlotte... dear Charlotte. I love her determination and spirit to fight for her freedom after being betrayed by her father. Rather than protecting her, he left her to the mercy of a seductive devil. She doesn't make things easy for Easton and I love her for that. Easton is a contradiction. You see moments where he is kind and feels remorse and other times his vindictive nature in making Charlotte's father pay for his crimes. The moments where he was so cold made me want to slap him. It's hard to separate the two sides of him and decide which is the real Easton. He tries to make Charlotte submit to him with his seductive words and skilled hands. Charlotte hates each time her body responds and there are times where I kept screaming, don't do it, don't do it!!! It's part of his plot!!! And then Charlotte would surprise me with her hidden plan and I wanted to throw my fist into the air like at the end of Breakfast Club.

description

She's feisty and stronger than she knows. And like her brother said, *"But I know you're strong, and you can do anything you set your mind to."* He's right. She is so clever and sneaky I was so impressed. But Clarissa Wild is just as clever especially with the ending that had me on edge and I was itching for more. I'm not above begging and if I must, I shall because I need more!

Oh Clarissa you know how to write a book!! Charlotte Davis’s life is going to change forever when she is offered up to a man named Easton Van Buren in place of her father’s debt for a loan that was not paid. What will she do when she is traded and forced to marry her father’s archenemy? Easton was once a poor, friendly waiter but after tragedy strikes he re-creates himself into the ruthless business man he is today. He vowed to take down his enemies and that begins with claiming Charlotte as his. She is the daughter of his nemesis and will do anything to get his revenge...even use the the one person that he felt something for when he was younger. Will he succeed In exacting his vengeance on the Davis family or will his hidden feelings for Charlotte change his plans? This was a fabulous dark romance that has you reading until the very end but be warned it ends in a cliffhanger. This has a beauty and the beast vibe but make no mistake it’s no fairytale. That good scene was hot!!! I cannot wait for the next book to see what happens! Told in dual POV

Where to start. Good that veered into you’ve got to be kidding me. This book started as an interesting tale of a young infatuation that evolved into a payment by marriage for the debt incurred by the heroine’s father. First of all, there was nothing dark about this book. In some ways it was pathetic as it was obvious this billionaire hero was in love (ok, obsessed) with the TSTL heroine. Still, once she accepted the agreement, the hero never coerced her to do anything and was often all but saying he loved her. His only stipulation was that she stay with him while he basically spoiled her. Really?!?

After 67% of her stupid whining and lack of perception and his lack of action, I had to say goodbye. DNF. If only such an unrequited love hero existed. This was a one-star read with a erstwhile romantic hero who boosted it by 1.5 stars. The heroine was just awful and her personality and influence were damaging to the story.

I’ve been reading this authors books for about five years. Each book I think is her best yet and then she writes a story that blows my mind....again. A Debt Owed is another outstanding read by this author.

Easton has always wanted Charlotte and he has proven that he will do anything to have her. Charlotte is sassy and gives as good as she gets.

I absolutely loved both of these characters.

The ending blew my mind and I can’t wait to read more...soon pretty please.

Consigliato

Book Review A Debt Owed by Clarissa Wild
Let's start off by saying this was one suspenseful read full of tons of chemistry.

We have to say we really enjoyed the characters both good and bad. Omg ! I hate cliffhangers!Note this book ends on a whooping one !

This was one of those stories that kept you on edge the entire time because you never new what was going to happen next.Charlotte was a captive and married to a monster because she was given to that monster to pay her father's debt. Charlotte want's to free of him and free from her family and will do anything to make that happen as she has never known freedom even when she was within her family as they always held the reins. What happens when you attracted to your captor and don't want to be? "Can you say chemistry off the charts.".....

Charlotte we found her to be determined, brave, clever and willing to best her captor at his own games.

Easton - We found to be a complicated character because for one minute you think the man has a heart the next minute he has you questioning your own sanity why you ever thought he had a heart in the first place. We found him to be clever ,played tons of mind games, sexy in that cocky bad boy way and was deadly as sin and is all about ownership.

Overall the story kept you engrossed in the pages and turning them the entire time .The story was dark and edgy and was filled with a ton of chemistry but, due to those circumstances it felt all wrong yet, was super hot and electrifying."Let's just say we loved that the player got played!"

She’s my hostage, someone I keep in a soft and velvety cage for my selfish needs.

What would you do if you were forced to marry someone you didn’t love, but if you didn’t you would watch someone you love die.

Charlotte is a tortured soul. All her life she has gone out of her way to try and please her father, to gain some kind of attention from him but he’s always just viewed her as an annoyance, someone he tolerates just because he has to. She’s been physically abused by him (at his own wedding no less) and now she has to save his sinking business by being the trade off against a hefty loan. She’s is the only innocent character is this situation. Her brother sucked, her father sucked and by god did Easton suck big hairy balls! Charlotte despite her flaws cares immensely for her family and doesn’t want to see any of them dead so accepts the situation grudgingly. It is through time that she realises that she really can’t live like this and has to find some means of escape. She is Easton’s wife but only in name, she is a captive, a prisoner. She’s watched 24/7. She’s not entitled to privacy, freedom or autonomy. This isn’t what she imagined for life, not at all.

OH EASTON, EASTON, EASTON
Where on earth do I begin with Easton? Between him and his father I really struggled to differentiate which was the bigger devil. Her father was a giant arse for sailing his daughter out to sea and basically selling her and Easton for having in it his head to buy her but also blame HER for his vendetta against her father.

The trouble I’m having is that I really liked the dark nature of Easton but a lot of his behaviours were borderline obsessive and out of order. The reason he wanted revenge against Charlotte was an apparent slight she gave him when they were in his father’s restaurant. She was extremely frightened of her fathers behaviour and knew what would happen if she spoke out against him. The fact that someone as cocky and arrogant as Easton held this grudge was pretty sad. A quick conversation could have put this wrong to rights (which Charlotte did, years later but Easton wasn’t for accepting it.) The way Easton treated Charlotte through the majority of the book was irking me. How I expected it to pan out was a kind of stolkholm syndrome type of plot. It is very clear that Charlotte is softening him up but why he continues to deny himself a love he’s felt since he first met her, I don’t understand.

Charlotte was an amazing character – Strong, caring towards family that quite honestly, don’t give a shit about her. Even although Easton thought he was running the whole show, really it was Charlotte. She used her sexuality against Easton to get what she wants and she didn’t often bow down to his demands. She held out a lot longer than I think Easton expected. I had a lot of respect for Charlotte’s character.

This was an enemy to lovers type of plot, I think at least this is where book 2 will lead us. The plot itself was fast paced and I lost track of time whilst I read it, I was that hooked. There wasn’t a lot of hot, steamy action in this book, which was fustrating because they had sexual chemistry by the boat load. I’m looking forward to seeing where book 2 takes us, and fingers crossed seeing a softer, more laid back Easton.

It pains me to write this review because I adore this author! She is from the neighbor country The Netherlands so that's special! I've read other books by her that I loved! This trope is just so hard! I liked the little Dutch words because I understand them! Also been a few times to the Netherlands so it's a bit Nostalgic.

It felt a bit pushed and not "natural" at times. Also that situation pushed his hate? Seriously? Then the world would be a cruel place. I love love love captive stories I truly do, but they are so difficult to write so you'll love em. He wants her to submit and get used to him, but he treats her like a dog at times! Don't get me wrong I love me some ahole from time to time, but the h needs to handle it. Otherwise it's a miss. I don't have a connection with Charlotte..
This will not hold my from reading the second one! I hope that one will lift this one up!

Please don't take my review to heart this is my own thoughts and feelings while reading this one. I hope you'll read it and love it!

I am still gathering my wits after destroying this delicious morsel. Charlotte and the men in her life. From her brother to her father who all but left her out of the family business. Which tanks thanks to Easton.

Easton is hurt from past experience with the rich Davis family. His crush on Charlotte is overshadowed by his hurt of what her family did to his. Years in the making, sets up a plan that he wins. Charlotte becomes a pawn.

Her dad hurt her by loaning her to Easton. Easton my be out for revenge but never count out a woman backed into a corner with nothing to lose.

The more time she spends with Easton, the more she learns. The shocks, secrets and suspense are wrapped into such a great story it can't be contained to one book. Oh that ending.. the next book can NOT be in my hands fast enough.

I received an ARC for an honest and voluntarily review.

“Let me be straight with you. I don’t care if I have to drag you to the altar in your bra and panties. I’ll fucking put a ring on your finger in front of your family while you are naked if I have to,”

This was definitely a page turner blackmail dark romance. Easton and Charlotte challenge one another constantly. I love that Charlotte doesn’t cave. I love that she has a backbone and despite her physical and emotions she remains dedicated to get her freedom.

The circumstances that Charlotte and Easton’s story begins aren’t sunshine and rainbows. Easton’s need to own Charlotte with all the best intentions is executed in a questionable manner that Charlotte refuses to forget.

Easton was definitely unstable, but so was Charlotte. I loved her fight. I loved his tenacity and I can’t wait to read the next.

I am in love with Easton and Charlotte's story. Easton is obsessed with Charlotte and has been since they were little. He will stop at nothing to have her even destroying her father in the process. Charlotte doesn't understand why the family business is failing but soon realizes that in order to save her father's life she must go with Easton. He is determined to make Charlotte his "Princess" and live happy ever after but Charlotte has other ideas that doesn't include marrying Easton.
This book is full of all kinds of secrets, lies and love, in a sick and twisted way but it is a must read for everyone. I didn't want it to end and the cliffhanger is something else. All I can say is read this book!!

Yes!! Debt Owed definitely has a fantastic start to what is going to be a great story. I'm so excited for what's to come. It has a revenge wanting, power hungry, sexy as sin man, that wants what he wants and wants it his way. And the gorgeous princess, as he calls her wants no part in being with him. It has suspense, a dominant man and some delicious sexiness. I love when Clarissa writes these kinds of books, they are the best. Can't wait for me!!
