Another exciting episode of City of Wishes! I especially loved the ending of this one and I am very excited to see what happens next. The Godmother is one fun villain (or is she? *dramatic music* Definitely a gray character) to read about and without a doubt one of the most complex characters in the story. I am also looking forward to finding out more about Elle’s past, her mother, and how it somehow ties with a certain nanny… I am loving this series so much!

No sooner has the clock struck midnight following the Moonlight Masquerade ball, Elle feels the pull of the Godmother’s magic summoning her back to her attic. Luckily Elle is intercepted by Azriel who abducts her and takes her to his family home, the Bella Eternal Nights, a secret vampire safe haven in Verance. Initially he intends to hand her over to Vincenzo Savoy, the head of the Allegiant. Fortunately he comes to his senses in time and contacts Dex.

Reunited with Dex, Elle comes clean about her bargain with the Godmother; her freedom from the slave charm in return for his life. She explains how she planned to trick the Godmother into believing Dex was dead. She also tells him about her memory stealing powers. Elle learns that the Godmother is responsible for the Darkness that took the life of Dex’s brother and now threatens to do the same to him.

Unhappy with the Allegiant’s agenda which threatens her empire, the Godmother tracks down Elle and makes her a proposal. “Why don’t you make another wish, Elle. Wish again for your freedom and this time, the only price I ask is that you accompany me on my journey to visit Vincenzo Savoy. Once I’ve killed him, you’ll be free to go. Properly free.” The question is, can the Godmother be trusted?

The Eternal Night is the fourth episode of the City Of Wishes series and picks up right after the events of the previous book. Elle wakes up in Azriel’s home and is relieved to see Dex. Fae magic is incapable of penetrating the barrier around Azriel’s home so initially she’s safe from the pull of the Godmother’s magic. Cress is able to perform a temporary spell to subdue some of the painful effects of the slave charm. Elle and Dex open up to each other with the former confessing the bargain she made with the Godmother. Dex tells Elle that the Darkness that is slowly killing him is the consequence of the wish his father made with the Godmother which backfired. Imagine their shock when the Godmother turns up out of the blue with a proposition.

The Godmother is fast turning into my favourite character. She’s complex, manipulative but one gets a sense that all is not black and white where her motives are concerned and neither is she evil. I feel she is withholding a lot - particularly where Elle’s mother is concerned - and one can only guess her true agenda, which is what makes this series so interesting. Her subtle efforts to protect humanity against the Allegiant as well as King Belarus makes me inclined to think that the Godmother will surprise everyone yet and in a good way.

The Eternal Night was another well executed and exciting addition to the series with another whopping cliffhanger that has ensured this reader will be reading the follow up episode, The Starlight Quest. I highly recommend this series to fans of fairytale retellings, Fae, vampires, witches, pixies and urban fantasy.

The Eternal Night has been the best episode of City of Wishes so far, full of great character moments, mind blowing reveals, and a tense ending that had me go straight to episode 5 it was so interesting! The pacing was just right and I was engaged throughout the story.

Elle and Dex have to venture to the world of the Vampires following the fallout of episode 3, and we quickly get some role reversal on certain characters. True alliances are revealed as we get more into character motivations and I hung on every word. The plot and world expand and come together with several big reveals and I can say less and less as we dip more into heavy spoilers. I was on edge during the last sections of the episode, and no matter what, the intensity and stakes ramp up at the end of each episode is masterfully done, and this one is no exception. It’s really big. Though I’m wondering how Elle’s family is going to find their way back into this story.

As I said before, I couldn’t imagine having to wait weeks to find out what happened as those last lines were being spoken, though I was surprised at that wording.

The 4th sequel follows Elle into the Eternal Night, where Azriel's home is and we get more exposition regarding Azriel himself, Elle and her past and, of course, some Godmother action.

Somehow all characters are still likable, even some that we barely see, though I think some extra effort has been given to "modernize" them in the sense that some talk like flaky teenagers. However, it does not take from the story at hand which is the dealings between Elle and the Godmother.

Godmother consistently is the most interesting character as she is brutally honest, yet deceitful at every turn. By now I am not sure if I want her to be behind everything or leave the allure of the unknown as she reacts to situations a surprise.

Rachel Morgan’s THE ETERNAL NIGHT is an amazing addition to the City of Wishes series. This story keeps getting better and better. City of Wishes is a paranormal retelling of the Cinderella fairy tale.

The book starts off right after Elle was captured by Azriel in book three. What happens after that is a series of unexpected surprises. Dex searches for Elle. We discover more about him. The Godmother is still in the picture. Her trustworthiness is questionable. One exciting thing happens after another. I read this book in one sitting. I cannot wait for the next book.

Rachel Morgan has done an incredible job with her character development and storyline. I recommend this series to people who enjoy paranormal fairytale retellings. You want to read the books in order. You do not want to skip an episode. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

In this fourth installment we see Elle in one of the Eternal nights - a land where vampires live and no one can enter without a vampire's help.

I thought the house she was in sounded wonderful, though the landscape sounded dreary. The deal that was made sounded to good to be true and that ending again has me hastening to start the next book now! I'm loving this series.

Loved it, loved it, loved it!

This has been, probably, one of the best discovers of the year. I'm not a fantasy kind of reader. Except for Harry Potter (and Hunger Games), I hardly read fantasy. So, perhaps, there is a lot of books better out there. However, I am in love with this series, and for being such a pleasant read, I decide to give it 5* (it doesn't need to be a best seller or a classical to have such high classification. For me, it's enough to feel it was a pleasant read where I felt the pages flew by).

So, in this volume we start getting some clarification on the characters motivations. I really enjoyed this, I felt the puzzle pieces started fitting in. I couldn't read fast enough to discover the next revelation.

The book is full of plot twist, which I really enjoy. In this volume, we've left the ball, so the Cinderella story is pretty much over. We still have the characters, but in this volume we get to see more of the author's imagination. I am liking this world build, I don't feel I lack information (as I felt in "A throne for sisters" by Morgan Rice) neither do I feel it is way to descriptive (as I felt in "The name of the wind" by Patrick Rothfuss). I feel it is right on point!

Another thing I'm really liking are the twists to the original Cinderella's characters. In this series, Dex (aka Prince Charming) is much more into the action compared to the original story. I really liked since in the original I felt it was more of a secondary character. Also, I really love him as a character, he is so sweet (can I take him home with me?). Spoiler alert: The Godmother is the bad guy (or, in this case, girl) of the story (you've figured this already if you've read the third volume). I enjoyed this plot twist so much, again, as in the original one she is so nice. Despite being the evil, I have to admit I do like her sense of humor, we have to give her that!

My expectations for the remaining two couldn't be higher!

Oookkkaaaayyyyyy, so this one had a few twists that I didn’t see coming 👀 This is my favorite episode so far. There are a lot of developments with Elle & Dex and the plot thickens even further. I just wished we got to learn more about some of the other characters. We get a little background from Azriel but that’s it. The other characters are just conveniently present or absent to carry the plot along. That aside, I like how things are shaping up.

Book 4 felt a bit more substantial, you're able to really get into the story, though it's still not enough. This instalment is full of revelations while still being tantalisingly full of even more questions.
Elle and Dex are so adorably awkward and goofy around each other. Kind of surprising for a prince who has every girl madly in love with him, but also understandable since he has been so cut off in some ways.
As usual, can't wait for the next part of the story.

Not much happened in this one. It was a bit boring after everything else that has been happening in the others. However, the duplicity of the Godmother was very fun and evil!

Thank you to Rachel Morgan for providing me with an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Find this review and more on my blog The Rest Is Still Unwritten!

The Eternal Night is the fourth instalment in Rachel Morgan’s City of Wishes series and proves Morgan isn’t planning on slowing down anytime soon with this addictive, romantic and thrilling fairytale retelling.

Elle Winter is a human in a world of fae, vampires and magic. A slave to her fae stepmother, Elle was so close getting her freedom before everything began to go wrong. Now she has been kidnapped by a vampire and taken far away from the fae prince Dex she has found herself recently falling for and any hope of rescue. Unsure of his plans, Elle is surprised to soon discover that he may not be the enemy she thinks he is. Stuck in the Eternal Night, Elle will soon have to make [another] deal with the devil—AKA The Godmother—if she wants to save Dex and all those she loves from the vampire king whose plans for Elle will destroy everything she holds dear.

Rachel Morgan continues to please with The Eternal Night, another fast paced and deeply enjoyable read. After four instalments, I feel very committed to Elle, Dex and their friends as we follow them throughout the series. Well written to completely ensnare your attention, The Eternal Night offers readers some exciting new developments and some unexpected surprises for the characters.

Continuing to unfold through Elle and Dex’s perspective, The Eternal Night ramps up the romance aspect as Elle and Dex continue to explore the attraction that simmers between them in a sweet, thrilling and adorable way. I literally devour every moment where we see stolen kisses and touches and their feelings strengthening. Obviously most readers will know the love story within Cinderella, but that doesn’t make Elle and Dex’s romance any less enjoyable to witness unfold.

Addictive, exciting and so very good, The Eternal Night is another wonderful read from Rachel Morgan and leaves me ready to devour the next one as soon as it comes out!

*Spoiler freeish review*

We had madness and awesomeness in book 3, in book 4 we have some major progression of the plot which makes us forget we're reading a Cinderella retelling because these books have a life of their own now.
We start with the Godmother sitting wondering where the heck Elle has disappeared to, a question we've been worrying ourselves with since the end of books 3 (Goddamn you Azriel if you touch one hair on her perfect lil head so help me). We see a favourite recurring character in the shape of tiny Tash who I sincerely hope by the end of this series she gets a really good conclusion because shes amazing.
Dex has gone looking for Elle and soon ends up on the front step of Salvia's house, trying his damnest not to kick up a fuss... I can't wait for the day that he can tbh.
There's a very, very humourous throwback to a certain wish made previously, which proves a point all us fantasy lovers know - you have to be very VERY specific in what you wish for.
We find ourselves in new settings with characters we weren't quite expecting and whole new scheme to try and right the wrongs that the vampire 'king' has been causing. We also now have a new unexpected key player, one whos not entirely trust worthy and appears to be a VERY morally grey being.
Elle now has new alliances, and friends, to help her along on her journey which takes quite an unexpected rather dramatic turn when plans are put in to motion.

Book 5 isn't out yet and I'm crying a little inside because eventhough the episodic nature of the series leaves you wanting more and more as you finish each episode, it LEAVES YOU WANTING MORE AND I DON'T HAVE MORE YET!
I joke... but not really. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for the next installement.

These covers are so amazing, this is the fourth installment in the City of Wishes story by Rachel Morgan. In a world of vampires, fae, and humans who are enslaved, you never know just how dangerous your wishes can be. These are all meant to be short and quick reads giving you just enough to draw you in and then oh wait you have to wait for the next part. In this part Elle has been kidnapped and is now trapped in the enchanted land of never-ending darkness with her only way out is to make a bargain with the Godmother again. Will Elle be able to pay the cost of another bargain with the Godmother? This fourth installment gives us even more information about Elle mother and a lot more about the handsome prince Dex. I dying to see what gonna happen and it been announced that the installment will be a total of 6 so we got 2 more to go. This is out today for you to snatch up and enjoy.

City of Wishes 4: The Eternal Night
By Rachel Morgan

If you have not read the first 3 parts of this series, STOP. Read those 3 parts first and then come back and read this 4th part. There will be 6 parts total, so expect cliffhangers until the end. Elle’s experience at the ball was not what she was expecting, and she failed to fulfill her mission for the Godmother. Now, she’s in hiding from her stepmother and the Godmother with the most unlikely characters. She and Dex must somehow figure out the location of this vampire king and confront him to save the world. Loving this series. Each part is definitely on the shorter side but it makes for a fast, yet satisfying, serial. Highly recommend.

My thanks to the author for an ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

To start with I’d just like to warn fellow readers that this is the fourth part in a serialized story, so you should have read Parts 1, 2, and 3 first, and this part ends in a cliffhanger. Okay, with that out of the way, let’s get on with the review.
The fourth installment of City of Wishes, The Eternal Night, takes part mostly in a so-called Eternal Night, a secret vampire safe heaven in which Elle has found sanctuary from her evil stepmother, as well as from the Godmother.
In this part of the story we finally find out what is wrong with Dex and his family and Elle finally tells Dex about her memory-stealing powers. The Godmother reenters the picture and practically everything she does makes me despise her more and more… Elle and Dex are cute as always, I love them together!
I’m really glad Part 5 is out already because I need to know what happens next!

ONE INCREDIBLE DELIGHT!!!
Leaping lizards! Rachel rocks this baby from the start. One tumultuous wild ride with a surplus of  unexpected misfortune and surprising incidents that blasts all of your emotions bursting into play perfectly. One delectable storyline and compelling plot jolting this baby together fabulously. All the drama, angst, danger and suspense make for one incredible experience. Twists and turns, ups and downs, along with a few bumps and bruises bring this baby together smoothly. One non-stop action packed, fast paced, page flipping delight that grabs your attention and holds it until the last page. The characters and scenes are written in true to life form that brings this little guy bursting to life delightfully. Amazing job Rachel, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.

Oh, my goodness! I love how the author still manages to keep the shoe element from Cinderella while at the same time making it an entirely different plot device. Dex has to find Elle when she disappeared from the ball, but she's not at home. Kidnapped by vampires! It's awesome.

And from there things took a turn for the unexpected. I didn't see any of that coming and although the godmother still seems seriously self-absorbed and dastardly, even worse than the version of this character from "Shrek", I have this strange suspicion that all her plotting is actually for a good purpose. She seems to toy with people, but there are some hints its more than that.

Can't wait to find out what happens next! After all, Ella is being sent on a grand quest and I'm sure Dex will be going with her, so yay for this very cute bookish couple.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and volunteered to review it.

So this one starts off a bit slower, but this is because Elle has been kidnapped by a vampire, how actually turns out to be good. She reunites with Dex, and his friends, but is then propositioned by the godmother (yeah that godmother who wanted her to kill Dex). The godmother reveals some interesting titbits about humans, magic, and Elle's past. This is the interesting part because Elle finds out where her ability comes from and why the vampires are after her.

The ending of the book felt a little too quick and convenient for plot purposes, given that the godmother is suddenly trying to help them in a weird way, which puts everyone on alert because she always has a hidden agenda.

Still an awesome read.

City of Wishes: The Eternal Night proves to be just as hard to put down as the rest of the series. Our beloved Elle and Dex have several of their questions answered and some sweet moments together. Some of my favorite characters make an appearance, I’m looking at you Cress and Sienna. We also see more of the Godmother and the vampires. And in true Rachel Morgan fashion there are twists and turns you don’t see coming. The end comes before you’re ready for it, leaving you longing for more! I am anxiously awaiting the next enstallment and can’t wait to see how the story ends, but I already have the feeling that City of Wishes will end up being my favorite Cinderella retelling ever!

The whole time reading there was this dark cloud hanging over me and a voice in my head saying: Don’t get your hopes up. This is not going to end well. Did you learn nothing from the previous books? And the voice was right.... There is so much going on and, though it seems to be in favor to Elle and Dex, nothing goes the way it’s supposed to be. Or, maybe I should say, as I want it to go. You know the wish Meredith cast on Prince Chevalier? Yeah, there might be a problem with that. And to know which vampire is on which side, that’s another problem altogether. And don’t get me started on the Fairy Godmother. She is just...not how she’s portrayed in history. And: I REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO ELLE’s MOTHER!

This episode provides us with a lot of background information we have been waiting for. There is more about Elle's past and her mother, although not enough, and we also discover Dex's secret about the Darkness. I like that they are honest with each other and there is no story created out of misunderstandings or half-truths.
But oh, how I begin to hate the Godmother! And little Pixie Tash? I thought she is cute but working for my least favourite character? Tstst...
I had a screaming-out-loud moment at the end of the book – how can Elle be so stupid? Well, it definitely isn't going anywhere near our happily ever after yet!

Elle wakes up kidnapped by Azriel, the vampire who has some sort of knowledge about her past and her dead mother. Meanwhile both the prince and the fairy godmother are looking for Elle.
