Received a complimentary copy of this novel from the author through Voracious Readers Only in exchange for an honest review.
This is a gripping page turner of a tale about the brilliant scientist Dr Henry Marlow as told to a young journalist. The narrative moves smoothly between the past and present as Dr Marlow recounts the story of his rise to fame and fortune. Set in the near future Dr Marlow has discovered a way to transfer the brain of a terminally ill patient into the fit and healthy body of a “volunteer” death row prisoner. But when the initial government funding dries up and the project looks like it will fail a wealthy backer steps in and that’s when it all goes terribly wrong with disastrous consequences for all involved.
This is a real rollercoaster of a tale with lots of twists and turns that the author has cleverly kept hidden.
Brilliant, loved it and will be looking to download more by this author.

The Marlow Project was given to me as an ARC book for an honest review. I really enjoyed The Marlow Project! It is a sci-fi lite* and medical mystery book. The book mainly takes place with Henry Marlow talking with a reporter, Joe Slater. Henry is telling his side of the story about the Marlow Project where people with terminal illnesses have their brains including personalities and memories transferred into bodies of people on death row. The book is fast paced and reads easily. It is a perfect summer book. There are a couple of special twists at the end that I really did not see coming.

*This is not a Sci-Fi book that is epic and heavy topics like Swan Song, The Road, or The Handmaids Tale nor is it Star Wars. It just happens to take place in the future with some topics that we have yet to encounter in the 21st century.

The Marlow Project is a science fiction (although classified as a techno-thriller/medical thriller on Amazon) novel by L. M. Barrett.
In the future, Dr. Henry Marlow perfects the ability to transplant the brain (memories and personality) of one person to another. Through Dr. Marlow’s procedure, good, terminally ill people get an opportunity to live a longer life in donor bodies. The donors (initially) are healthy death row inmates destined to be executed.
The story is told as an interview with journalist, Joe Slater with flashbacks about the patients (Including Dr. Marlow’s wife, Annie) undergoing the procedure and how their lives change after the operation, and the exploits of Marlow’s unscrupulous partners.
My favorite vignette is of Edward, a terminally ill museum curator, Damien, a teacher that used his position to seduce his female students and killing the ones that caused him trouble, and Helena, one of Damien’s devoted, but gullible students. Helena stalks Edward in Damien’s body after the transfer thinking she can be with Damien again making life miserable for Edward.
This book is a classic “page turner.” I was particularly amused by the variety of miscues the brain transfer technology (mixed with human foibles) the author covered. How many ways could the procedure go wrong?
This is a clever story. I marvel at the intricacies of how all the facts are meticulously knitted together. It is clear the author took great pains to make sure all the pieces fit. It reminds me of the complex puzzle presented in Gone Girl.
There are great plot twists in this story. To get more, I suggest visiting the author’s website at wwe.lmbarrett-author.com and check out her entertaining “drabbles.”

Great read (but I wrote it so I'm biased!)

This is the story of Dr Marlow who reveals the unexpected truth in the end.
