Assassins #1

Assassin's Mark

Rate this book
I knew the minute I saw him that Levi Agozi was too perfect to be real. I didn't care. He came to me, asked for me, and, dazzled by his dark good looks and the bad-boy aura surrounding him, I gave in. Willingly.

My father is set to become the next governor of Virginia, and he'll use me to get there if he has to. He'll hand me over, virginity and all, to the man with the biggest bank account and political pull.

I wanted something more.

I wanted Levi. And I had him—until I woke up, disoriented and confused, at his mercy. He’s a bad boy, all right. A sexy, deadly assassin. And I'm the pawn torn between him and my father, two powerful men intent on destroying each other.

I might not understand their war, but I do understand one thing: no matter who wins, I lose.

description After finishing the short prequel (THE ASSASSIN) I was looking forward to diving right into this book. And I liked it....mostly. (lol) The writing was decent. It is a relatively fast read (under two hours) so the pace moves along quickly. The plot was intriguing. I loved the close bond all the brothers had. The sex was hot. There was no OW or OM drama. However, I wish we had gotten some confirmation on whether Levi slept with any other women during the separation. I don't *think* he did, but it is never outright said, and it always annoys me a little when we are left in the dark. (lol)

description

Both main characters were likable enough. I can't say I was overly enamored with Levi. I couldn't quite get passed what he did and how he treated Abby at the beginning. For "ME" it was a bit too much. He took it a bit too far, and I found it hard to warm up to him after that. He got better as the book went on, but it would have been nice for him to at least frigging apologize because Let's be honest here Abby I liked, mostly. I wish she hadn't been a virgin because I am f-cking OVER virgins at this point, but it seems there is no escaping them. (lol) I also would have liked her more had she held out before falling back into bed with Levi. It made her a little of a doormat in my opinion. Overall, though she wasn't a bad heroine. Last, it all wraps up on a happy for now cliffhanger. I enjoyed it enough that I will continue on to book two.

Assassin's Mark ended too soon. I feel like everything is too short. Too rushed. I do like the chemistry between Levi and Abby. They sizzle together.

The story is pretty short. Miss Sheridan puts in the necessary punches on the story. I am glad it works. Again what I feel is everything is too short. I needed more.
Since this is a duet, hopefully the story will be more on the second book.

The saga of Levi and Abby as told from Abby's POV.
The assassin out for revenge, and the young, innocent councilman's daughter caught up in the game of vengeance all because of her villainous and duplicitous father.
This is a captive/captor romance with some slightly darker tones, but not into my " trigger" zone.
I enjoyed this one and on to the next saga for this duo.

Well, we learned from the prequel, "The Assassin" that Levi Agozi was no joke... out for revenge after the corrupt, Councilman Derrick Roslyn tried to kill him off but managed to hurt his younger brother, Jeremiah aka Remi instead! What a world...all because Levi turned down Roslyn's assignment so 'Mr. Corrupt Councilman' felt he had to off Levi and leave no evidence of his crime since he was about to run for Governor of Georgia!

Remember, the assassin, Levi has principles and never kill the innocent!
description

So after Remi is hurt badly, "vengeance is mine" says Levi!

description
description
So Levi kidnaps Derrick Roslyn's innocent daughter, Abigail aka Abby... but who's the prey now... with all the heated chemistry between these too...Levi
or his "little bird," Abby.
description

But you will see the H/h or anti-hero/heroine attractions grow and grow... in only Abby's POV

description

This story was a good one but some of the things Levi did

The powerplay that controlling Levi and Abby's demented father, Derrick Roslyn played in "Assassin's Mark" are like a good game of chess!

description

l loved the suspense in this engaging story and I hope you do too!

description

Can't wait for "Assassin's Prey" written in Levi's POV...

P.S. Read the teaser of "Assassin's Prey" at the end of "Assassin's Mark." It's very daring and Levi Agozi's 'little bird' is fierce now so Levi better get his control in check and fast!

4.5 "Vengeance is mine" stars!!!!!

I don’t want to be rude, buuuuut I felt like I got dumber while reading.

Abby, again don’t want be rude, I am better than that. Hahaha at times but, really Abby, you are too stupid to have made it to adulthood.

Levi, no words, you were just being yourself and can’t fault you for that. But you were boring and nothing really stood out about you that would make sense for someone to give up their lives to want to be with you.

Abby took Stockholm Syndrome and made it her personality. Even after someone and her subconscious pointed it out to her.

And one thing I didn’t like was the descriptions during any steamy scene… penis, stalk, semen, idk all the clinical terms that really don’t work while in those scenes.

In the end, I read it and regretted it.

The plot thickens…

The tangled web that Levi and Abby found themselves in was dark, suspenseful and passion-filled. Kidnapped, Abby absolutely refused to play, or be, the victim. Her strength, even as she found herself alone to deal with things, meant taking those steps to independence she secretly wanted and needed. Of course, those were short steps as Levi kept her close. Their relationship, like the story plot that surrounded them, was not light and fluffy. The complete opposite in fact. Their intimacy was plagued by doubts that couldn’t stop them from reaching for each other. Physically, mentally, all ways, their connection grew with each situation that pitted them against themselves and others….

There were surprises and heart-in-your-throat moments as their relationship (and it was one) grew. There is more to come and it can’t happen soon enough. Their anxiety has become mine and it won’t go away until every plot twist plays out…. ~Diane, 4.5 stars

This was a pretty good read. Levi Agozi is a hot sexy Alpha male who is also a killer. Abby has been controlled by her father who is running for Governor of Georgia he is willing to use her to get there. When she hooks up with Levi she gives up her v~card to him only to wake up in a different place. Abby finds out she has been kidnapped to get back at her father. I felt bad for Abby. I liked Levi and his brothers they were great secondary characters. These two had a lot of chemistry the sex scenes were hot. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Baby cakes you know you are not supposed to fall in love with your kidnapper, right? I am pretty sure they have a name for that and everything. Then again, I can't say I blame you because Levi was delicious even if he did do you a bit dirty there at the beginning.

Abby was set to marry a man her father handpicked for her. She knew not to go against the orders of her father but this one time she wanted to do something just for herself and Levi is exactly that thing. Something about him captivated Abby from the moment they locked eyes on one another and if she is going to marry who her father picked then she wants this one night with him. This one night to experience something for herself. Except the next morning nothing is as it seems, and Levi is no longer the smooth-talking man he was last night. There is something darker about him now. Something that terrifies her.

He didn't seem to know who she was last night but that was all a lie, and she was his target from the very start. As Levi tries to exact the revenge against Abby's father, he deserves both find themselves falling deeper into the hole of passion and longing that neither one of them has ever had.

When the ashes settle, and the revenge is settled what will happen to Abby & Levi? Will they be able to come back from all the secrets or will Abby have lost the only man she has ever loved.

The narration gods really were looking out for us with this narration because Jason Clarke and Stella Hunter were absolutely heavenly. While this was told exclusively from Abby's point of view when Levi spoke you took notice, and I was completely swooning from start to finish.

With a HFN ending The Assassin's Mark is Ella Sheridan at her best!! You never know what is going to come around the corner or how everything is going to play out, but you can't stop until you get the all the answers. Going right into The Assassin's Prey because I have to know how Levi and Abby's story ends after Levi is pushed to his limit.

4.5 amazing stars. The Assassin’s Mark is an entertaining, fast-paced, dark romantic suspense. Secrets are revealed and there are twists and turns that will keep you on your toes. This book is full of action, intrigue, and a whole lot of steam! Seriously, my kindle was smoking from the heat level between alpha bad boy Levi and Abby.

Can one fall in love with an assassin - a killer who believes he doesn’t feel emotions? Absolutely! Levi is a character that you cannot help but love. He is out for revenge and he is using Abby to achieve it. What he didn’t expect was to fall in love with her. I love how he firmly believes that he doesn’t feel emotions, but his fierce love for his brothers and his protectiveness towards them and Abby says otherwise. He had a difficult childhood that broke my heart and it is evident how it has shaped him.

Abby is a likable character. She is used as a pawn in an intricate political play with her father and as Levi’s pawn for revenge yet she stands up for herself and fights. Her and Levi fit well together and have explosive chemistry. This book is told entirely from Abby’s POV and I do wish that there were some chapters told from Levi’s. I would have loved to see just what was going on in that mind of his.

Levi’s younger brothers, Remi and Eli make great secondary characters and I hope that they each get their own book. Overall, I loved Assassin’s Mark as the plot is entertaining, the characters are well-developed and likable, and there is the perfect balance of intrigue, action, and steam. There is no cliffhanger, but they will be featured in this author’s next book - Assassin’s Prey. I received this book from Give Me Books.

Eh, from prologue aka #0.5 we got the gist of what the series will be like.

And Assassin's Mark stayed faithful to the style.

Also rather mediocre assassin romance ♥
Well, pretty much what one would expect where the assassin doesn't kill the innocent. Meh.
Ok, maybe saying mediocre is too...harsh, but...it's in the middle ground - not bad, not excellent, but the good/ok/fine ground.
description

This one is from the girl's pov. The surprise (sarcasm people, sarcasm).
Honestly, the book did ok (again) and I did read all of it, but it simply wasn't what I wanted and so I'm feeling let down (again).

We knew what the plot's gonna be like: assassin + girl + romance book = yeah, we know what's gonna go down.
We knew what the characters are gonna be like: duh, I mean - assassin who only kills the bad guys? Kinda obvious.

So it's one of those there-are-million-of-it's-kind book which is ok to read when there's nothing exciting on the horizon, for it will be ok, but not something you'll re-read or think of later on.
While reading it Assassin's Mark is interesting enough and plot did have a turn I hadn't anticipated. But afterwards?
There and gone. As most books are.

What I liked best?
The girl at the very beginning - she wanted, she went for it and screw her excuse of a father.
I'm proud of her. Too bad (or maybe not, definitely not 'cuz it's a romance book XD) her moment of freedom/daring backfired and the hot dude ended up kidnapping her...as a revenge on her father *snickers*
She had other moments of being cool, so thumbs up for that.

Audio received from Audibly Addicted for an honest audio review

Assassin's Mark was my first Ella Sheridan book, and I am now keen to read more of this series.

I am still unsure how I feel about Levi at this stage. Would it be too much for the man to apologise for the crap that he has put Abby through

And why oh why did Abby have to be a virgin on top of everything else? Just no, we're over that trope ok?

I did like the closeness of the Agozi brothers - and I hope that the other brothers find their HEA. I hope that what has happened in this book is leading where I think it is for one particular brother.

Jason Clarke and Stella Hunter brought this tale to life. There is something so smooth about Clarke's voice that I can't help but want to listen to more.

At times, and this is probably just a me thing, Hunter did come across as a lot younger than the character, but it wasn't all the time. This is most likely just my weird mind though!

I do look forward to listening to more of this author, and these narrators in the future.

Sometimes it pays to step outside your comfort zone. Assassin’s Mark is far different from the books I usually read, with an anti-hero protaganist, a murder mystery plot, and an underlying political theme.

When his brother is wounded in an attack meant for him, assassin Levi Agozi goes after the person who initiated the attack-would be governor Derrick Roslyn. But instead of attacking the man directly, he kidnaps his daughter, Abby. Told by her father that she is to marry his henchman, Abby decides to finally rebel, and goes to a bar with friends. When Levi approaches, she is thrilled and flattered to have someone interested in her-not her money and name, and goes with him willingly to lose her virginity to someone of her choice. When she wakes up from a drugged sleep the next morning, she discovers she is a prisoner of a man as ruthless as her father. As Levi continues plotting against Roslyn and vice versa, Abby and Levi discover that the spark they felt that first night is growing into a consuming fire. But how can an assassin and a politician’s daughter ever hope to build a relationship? At first, Levi is a real bastard, but as he comes to care for Abby, he changes into a protective, caring lover. Abby comes across as a little too passive to begin with, but she also grows as the book progresses.

This was a delightful read and it should be on the shelves of anyone who likes political thrillers.

Interesting semi dark (wish it was even darker) and sexy story about revenge and justice. Hot Assassin falls for his mark. Love those kinds of stories. My only complaint is I wish it was told dual POV it would have been nice to hear his thoughts throughout the book. The dialogue was really good so that did help. I really enjoyed the narration of this book. Duet is the best and Jason Clark's voice is always on point Stella Hunter's performance was good too and that is a very good thing since she essentially narrates the book. Overall it was a nice listen.

Assassin's Mark is the first full-length book in the Assassins series by Ella Sheridan. There is a short prequel that sets up the story for this book.

The author is a hit or miss for me and I am afraid it leans towards the miss most of the time. I think that the author writes weak heroines. Of course, Abby is a virgin when she meets Levi and immediately sleeps with him, cauz reasons. Then he drugs her, she fights her captor for 5 seconds top and allows him to finger fuck her. That is the definition of a badass heroine. She didn't even question Levi or anything he told her and plainly accepted everything. Other women in this book were more feisty and reacted as someone in their position should. Not like a sex starved person. Levi didn't have the bad-ass vibe he had in the prequel and I felt like he was just an assassin who is not important. I skipped some parts of the book (5-10 chapters I think) because I just wanted to finish the book. The ending was as predictable as one can imagine and overall I was very disappointed with this book. Levi and Abby's story will continue in a second (or third if you count the prequel) book and I swear if I hadn't gotten the ARC for it before I could reach the PR company, I wouldn't even think of reading it.

Levi Agozi is an assassin who was targeted by one of his former clients, Derrick Roslyn, and now he is planning on turning the table by bringing him down any way he can. For Levi that means kidnapping Derrick’s daughter, Abigail, and using her as a pawn in their game.
Abigail Roslyn has never had a close relationship with her father and has continually felt like a pawn in his life and used how it best fits Derrick’s own personal agenda. Yet never could Abigail have realized the extent her father could go to in order to get what he wants.
Can Levi keep his attraction to Abigail strictly professional or will his attraction to her get the best of him?
This book was great and had so many twists and turns and true surprises through out!
Levi was a great character and you truly felt for him even though he was an assassin. He had so much guilt over what happened to his brother Remi and he needed to get to the bottom of why Derrick wanted him gone. Levi had an incredible loyalty to his brothers and then he became extremely protective over Abigail as well.
Abigail was so mad that she had been taken and needed to get out of Levi’s place but gradually she
began to see press conferences and watch how Derrick was able to manipulate things which made her really think about her life. I loved watching Abigail see what had gone on and change her view on certain things.
The twists and turns in the book were awesome and there were times when I thought I had certain
things figured out or how they were going to go and I would be close but not right on. I loved all of the mysteries and secrets.
The end was intense for sure and I wasn’t sure how everything was going to pan out but I was super happy!!
I can’t wait for the next book! By Rebecca

Assassin's Mark by Ella Sheridan is book Two in the Assassins Series. This starts the story of Abigail 'Abby' Roslyn and Levi Agozi. The previous book just introduced us to Levi, Remi, Eli and the plan to get revenge on Derrick Roslyn using Abby. This book picks up where we left off with Levi listening / watching Abby to get his change to get close to her to use her as a pawn in his revenge plan. Levi only care for has been for his brothers, he knows he can have no love for anyone else. But the more he is with Abby the more that his walls of hate with no love is getting harder to hold up. Abby knows that her father is a awful man proving it over and over to her. Abby's father is on a political road by wanting to be the next governor of Virginia and he will use her anyway he can to make his goals happen. When she meets Levi she knows that she is attracted to him and wants so bad to have something just for her, but nothing is as it seems as she will find out.
This does end to set us up for the next installment in their story.

When Levi realizes that the future govenor put a hit out on him he decides to hit below the belt. Kidnap his daughter, Abigail, and use her to seek out his revenge. It backfires when Levi finds out that Derrick is using Abby like a pawn in a chess game.

Abby begins to grow stronger as the pieces of the puzzle begin to fall in place. She realizes just how corrupt her father is.

There is a magnetic pull between Levi and little bird. The Assassin's Mark is told from Abby's pov and how her feeling developed for Levi.

Mystery, suspense, betrayal, lies, murder and sizzling scenes.

Definitely a must read!!

WoW, I am stunned, I didn't think this was going to be my kind of book, but boy was I wrong. This book was amazing, even though the (Heroes) were assassins they were very sexy and lovable, the characters were emotionally deep and complex, the chemistry between Levi and Abby was explosive, the sex was incredibly hot, and the story line was interesting, engaging and full of twists and turns. This was a great read and I cannot wait to start book 2.

This is my first book from Ella Sheridan and I really enjoyed it! The story pulled me right in from the beginning. Abby and Levi’s story was steamy and compelling from the moment they met. I loved all the twists and turns this book had and it had me on the edge of my seat. I didn’t want to put it down.

I loved the duet narration from Stella Hunter and Jason Clarke. The story is told from Abby’s point of view and Stella did and amazing job telling her story and capturing Abby’s emotions. Jason’s role was small but he did an amazing job with all the male characters in this book.

I would recommend this book and I am looking forward to the next book in the series!

The first book in the series is the Assassin's Mark is the second book in the series which is the story of Levi and Abby. When the Levi Kidnapped Abby due to her father's issues with him he didn't know that he is freeing a girl or helping a girl from her abusive father. As the Incidents happened, they both started to trust each other and they eventually fall in love with each other which both of them not wanted to.

This book has an amazing action which is going to get you hooked and It is a breath of fresh idea by the author. This book has a lot of HEA and I believe the author has shown the attraction between two only with the Physical Attraction because I was feeling that after every scene there is a sex scene which (according to me) is not required. Furthermore, the book has a good part of Drama which is a good thing because It helps you to keep reading this book and I love the character of Eli which is going to be a sweetheart in the whole series.

The author ended this book at a very Happy note and I must say that the book was worth reading.

FULL REVIEW available on Kali's Book Reviews ;) Some spoilers ahead...

If you are a fan of LJ Shen, Levi will put you in mind of a quasi-politer, more stabby Vicious if Vicious were an assassin.  The things this man can do with a KA-BAR and robe ;) I’m not a BDSM fan, but there was one scene where I was kind of like: DAYUM Levi!  It’s not a BDSM romance at all, but once you read the part I’m talking about, you’ll know why my mind was in the gutter. He is a no-nonsense, protective, dominant AF alpha who definitely met his match with Abby Roslyn.

Did the king of the assassins take the throne?  Yes, yes, and then some!  I’m giving this one my coveted 6/5 star improper fraction crown, robe, and scepter!   This series reigns as one of my ALL-TIME favorite series and is a great example of why Ella Sheridan needs to be a one-click author for you Even though I’m a Cinderella girl through and through, I cannot help but to be drawn to the dark shadows of dark romance and romantic suspense. I adore a good anti-hero story.  I think it’s one of the reasons Fahrenheit 451 was so wildly appealing to me at a time I didn’t enjoy reading (GASP! ) and why I absolutely adore Loki from the Thor/Avengers movies This book delivers those feels on so many levels and it’s nice to see a contract killer with a conscience every now and then Irony at its best and most delicious.

Abigail Roslyn has played puppet to her master marionettist father for too long.  At 21, she has lived to please the whims of a man who sees his only child as leverage.  Refusing to be a pawn in dear ol’ dad’s sick political games, Abby decides that before her life is over as she knows it, she’s going to give her innocence away to a man of her choosing, not a man chosen for her.  A night with the girls is interrupted when a tall, dark, and handsome stud with captivating grey eyes zeroes in on her and makes his heated interest in Abby well known.  A spin around the dance floor and some banter between the two solidifies her decision to give it up to the stranger from the bar.  Little does Abby know that meeting this stranger is not serendipity or by happenstance.  There’s a more sinister plot at play and poor Abby goes from being a caged bird to captured prey.

The handsome stranger who was so tender from the night before is long gone and in his place is a avenger bent on destroying the only family Abby has left.  Unsure of why she is the one to suffer, she makes Levi’s life as difficult as possible, but with each tongue lashing and rough-handling, Abby tries to ignore the sparks of wild attraction between them and it seems like Levi might be trying to do the same.  Levi believes that Abby is the perfect pawn to get revenge on her dad for the attempt on his brother’s life, but he didn’t bank on her hating Derrick Roslyn as much as him.  A bond begins to form between the unlikely allies, with Abby falling fast for her captor and Levi trying to remember she’s just a mark.  But, the body language between the two doesn’t lie and even some outsiders are starting to raise some eyebrows.

A man on a mission, Levi knows if he doesn’t carry out his plans, he is effectively putting the noose around his and his brothers’ necks.  Yet, the redhead beauty who looks at him as both sinner and savior makes Levi question if using Abby is still the best plan, especially when he sees his possible redemption in her beautiful eyes.  Once D-Day comes and the plot to bring down the gubernatorial hopeful comes to an explosive end, how will they walk away from each other?  Can captive and captor make a relationship work or will Levi leave her with a broken spirit and a broken heart?

Be warned: There are acts of violence, an account of kidnapping, foul language, and steamy scenes involved.  Readers sensitive to these might want to forgo this one along with the series.

I started this book as soon as I had finished reading the novella that starts the series off! The novella was intriguing and started off the events of this book! After reading this book, I can say that I liked it a lot, but there was juts something about it that stopped me from loving it! I'm not sure what it was, but I felt like the plot was over too quickly and I wanted more! I did think that this book was a standalone, but it's actually the first book in a series! There was also a bit of romance in this book, but quite a few seriously hot scenes between the two main characters! There was a bit of action and suspense in the plot as well, which added a lot to it and made me enjoy it more! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Abby was the main character, and I did feel for her in this book because she went from an abusive relationship with her father to being kidnapped because of him! Abby did try in this book and she stayed as strong as she could! Abby also came a long way in this book and she learned some secrets that changed things for her! Levi was the love interest of Abby! Levi was introduced in the novella and he was out for revenge because of the events in that novella! I understood why he wanted revenge because he had a lot of loyalty to his brothers and wanted to keep them safe, but I do think that he may have went about it the wrong way! I also didn’t like the way Levi was with Abby at several points in this book! He was very rough with her and he did like to control her! His feelings for Abby developed as the plot did and he did start to realise his mistakes! Levi was also a intriguing character though and I wanted to know more about him! This book was only written from Abby’s point of view, which I was kind of expecting because the synopsis gives the impression that it’s going to be! I did enjoy this book only being written through Abby’s eyes, but I would have loved some chapters to have been written from Levi’s point of view because he was a vital character and it was just as much his story as it was Abby's! I was still able to connect with Levi and the other characters and in a way it did make sense for this book to only be written through Abby’s eyes! I now can’t want to read the next book in this series! I know that it’s going to continue Abby and Levi’s story and I'm excited to find out what's going to happen next for them! I also know that the next book is going to be written from only Levi’s point of view, but I really hope that a few chapters might be written from Abby’s point of view! I’m really happy that the next book has already released because it means that I can make it my next read, which I’ll be doing! The cover for this book is also absolutely perfect for it! I love the grittiness of the cover image and it definitely suits the type of relationship between Abby and Levi! The cover would attract me to the book too!
