Physiology is cool and this book is the best!

I would recommend this book as starter in human physiology, it explains human physiology in a basic and simplistic mannerism but is still detailed enough to help you get those higher grades.

Almost all of the diagrams were quite helpful and explanations were effective. I would prefer it if there were more diagrams though, perhaps even replacing some of the text.

Sometimes, I felt like the authors were included the “fundamental concepts of physiology”. In the beginning, the “physiological processes are dictated by the laws of chemistry and physics” felt nice, but after reading that quote dozens of times, I’m not sure if I liked it or whether it helped my understanding.

The book was quite concise, although sometimes the authors try to make things poetic and add some somewhat extraneous stuff. I was personally very fine with that.

Organization is pretty good as well. They don’t assume you have background knowledge but they don’t assume you are an idiot when explaining.

There are some inconsistencies that bug me, like how the authors randomly used “voiding” instead of micturition or urination without defining what voiding meant (though I suppose it was obvious, just inconsistent). Also, although I assumed they used the word “sex” to refer to one’s genotype, they randomly used “gender” once, which is defined as such.

The organization is really nice in my opinion. The headings and subheadings were given just the right size and color. I rarely had to flip back.

The practice questions were really helpful and tested your understanding relatively quickly. I really appreciate how the answer key is right at the end of the book, and how there are explanations. That was very helpful. I think generally the amount of questions was right as well. However, I did not like how the hints were right next to the question. It’s literally possible to read the question without reading the hint.

Anyways, I would recommend this book for anyone interested in how our body works or even thinking of entering the medical field. You’ll learn a lot.

This was the required textbook for my Physiology class this Spring. I really enjoyed the class and the content but did not like the organization or way the information was presented in this book.

A well-written overview of human physiology. I primarily used the main content of the chapter and then reviewed the section/chapter summaries and pictures for tests.

I much prefer the Campbell to this. Thank God the class is over.
