“Uno dei migliori thriller che abbia letto quest’anno. La trama è intelligente, e aggancia dal primo momento. L’autore ha fatto un lavoro superbo nel creare una serie di personaggi pienamente sviluppati e davvero interessanti. Non vedo l’ora di leggere il seguito.” --Books and Movie Reviews, Roberto Mattos (su A ogni costo)

Jack Mars is author of the bestselling LUKE STONE thriller series, which include the suspense thrillers ANY MEANS NECESSARY (book #1), OATH OF OFFICE (book #2) and SITUATION ROOM (book #3).
Luke Stone's wife is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, not long to live. But she's still fighting for the full custody of their son. His expertise is needed, nuclear weapons are stolen from NATO base. From Brussels to Incirlik, Adana Turkey. Turkey is coming apart after the coup. War in Syria, kidnapping and killing of prisoners. Putin is accusing U.S. not keeping the weapons safe and declared war. U.S. is under DEFCON 2 and attempted coup. Many twists and turns will keep you reading. Very good series.
A fast paced and yet a little too unrealistic for my liking. Everything was going for a strong 3 and then, near the end the realism seemed to be lost and it dropped to a 2. I am going to carry on though with #5 and see where it takes me...if it stays at 2, I am moving on.
Action-packed book about Luke Stone, former special FBI agent, who, at the request of the President of the US, gathers a team and flies to Belgium to investigate a rumor that there's a terrorist plot afoot to steal nuclear warheads housed there and use them against the free world.
While the terror plot was easy to follow, the backgrounds of the characters were apparently developed in the first three books in the series, so I was at a loss at times. For example, the President was the former VP who came to office when the US military staged a coup ( crushed, in part, of course, by Luke and his team). Her husband has been outed as gay and has moved with their two daughters back to their family home CA. Luke's wife, Becca, is dying of pancreatic cancer and plans to have her rich parents fight Luke for custody of their 12-year-old son. But, I was unsure why she was so bitter. Because he was a spy and puts the country above his family? There was some mention of her and the son having been kidnapped, but I didn't know if that played into it or not.
I read the synopses of the first three books and they seemed similiar in plot: country is in danger of attacks by terrorist and Luke and his team save the day.
Basic Action Thriller genre. Luke Stone, the protagonist, works directly for the president. To understand the relationship, one has to go back and read Book 1 of the series. There are a couple of twists, but nothing exciting. The most suspense comes from Stone's estranged wife and what she is going to do to his relationship with their son during the divorce. She's sort of a nutcase, now diagnosed with cancer.
New to the series? Think Mitch Rapp when trying to decide whether or not to read it.
Fourth book in the series. They are all very good. They are violent but not too much so. This story opened violently and I was concerned that it might be too violent for me. It was.not. It's delightful to have a strong woman President with the conflict of men who think she is not suitable for the job. A few scenes stretch the credibility; it IS fiction after all.
The President once again asks Luke Stone to take on a task that she knows no one else can do. Nuclear warheads have been stolen by a terrorist group and it seems they may be used against the United States or perhaps another nuclear entity in order to start an unstoppable war.
Luke is already up to his ears in family troubles as his ex-wife has informed him that she has cancer and may not be alive much longer. She has also let him know that he may lose any more chances to be with his son as she will give custody to her parents. He knows she is saying "TAKE THAT for not being there for us!!!" But Luke must save the world for his and his son's future if not for hers. Besides, how do you say "no" to the President?
This is crack for pulp spy thriller readers. Unrealistic? You bet. But it grabs you, slaps you around, and throws you out the door of the airplane. Yeah, I love Jack Mars.

A nice political/action thriller with plenty of great action and the plot moves along at a great pace. Luke Stone and his crew are a well written bunch and always find themselves in pretty improbable stations, which seems to be the heart of this series. Usually a good personal life story will do wonders for a book but the private live of Luke is not very believable and is a distraction.
I’ve decided I’ve had enough of this series now as they are very similar. It’s bern good fun but terribly predictable. Also I had an epiphany and decided Luke Stone is actually a self centered t@*t .
This continues not long after the last book. It starts with our hero spending time with his son and enjoying it. The only bad part is the black phone which he has to keep with him at all times. When it starts to ring when he's asleep, he doesn't want to answer. However, it's not the president, but his wife - soon to be ex-wife. She wants their son home. And if that wasn't bad enough, she has cancer.
However, when the US is notified of nuclear weapons which had gone missing, they call on our hero to help. However, our hero has personnel stuff on his mind. On top of that, he has his team spread out all over. His old boss is in Supermax prison where you disappear too. He visits him to see how he is and if knows where one of his team is. He does know of the missing nuclear weapons but doesn't know if the rumors are true or not.
He tries to visit the missing team member only for someone to target him for some reason. He goes back to report to the president on what he knows. It's come to light the security on the weapons was lacking and that's how they got out. It's Luke's job to get them back. However, his team isn't really a team anymore.
After tracking some of his team down, they start to track the weapons. It takes them to different parts of Europe. Will they get the people involved? The President has her own challenges with the people in her administration as well.
It was a pretty good book and plot. However, the mission, to me, was pretty flimsy and could have gone other more exciting ways. Glad to see the president getting a backbone too.
It took me a long time to finish this book. It was a little too violent for my taste. It did keep going back to it because it intrigued me. Could this special agent and his motley crew find the nuclear missiles that were stolen from the Turkey storage unit and prevent nuclear war? I had to find out and so will you.
Again Jack has woven a tale that is far fetched and yet totally possible. Our hero, Like Stone continues to do the impossible and make it seem like he does it every day. Great story that keeps you on the edge of your seat and you can't put it down.
I have read every book from Jack Mars and I have not been disappointed. The character Luke Stone is the best, so much action and keeps you interested to the very end. Thank you Mr. Mars.
Being a former Officer, Under cover Investigator and supervisor in Law enforcement I can appreciate the danger Luke seems to be up to his neck in. I hope that I don't have to be as cynical in my retirement. Thanks Jack from another Jac!
I enjoyed it a lot. A woman is president and she doesn't flinch. Luke is there to back her up but his support comes at a great personal cost. World War III is avoided because civilians retain control of the military. Luke does what he does best.
Luke Stone hero, renegade, unreliable in love? All of the above. Another fast paced energetic thriller where rules are blown away, new friends made, enemies disposed of and all's well that ends well... until the next time
I love this Luke Stone series! So we'll written with amazing action twists and turns as only Jack Mara can do. If your reading this I urge you to pick up this series and run with it.
Another scorching thriller! Almost straight from the headlines: an attempted military coup in Turkey; ISIS battles; Russian sabre rattling. It has it all!
And any book that has Vladimir Putin as a character is a 5 star for me ;-)
Luke Stone works directly for the President of the United States. She is indebted to him as he has saved her and the United States a number of times. But Stone is less interested in this life anymore and his team have been spread among other intelligence services with some members now incarcerated for previous misdoings.
This work has come at a personal cost to his home life, his marriage to Becka is in tatters and his relationship with his son Gunner could be better. Becka not only distrusts Stone, but now she despises him and to add further complexity to their fractured relationship she has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. Becka and Stone decide they will tell Gunner together.
Before Stone has the chance to do this and somehow earn a little respect back from Becka, the President calls Stone with the news that some aged US nuclear warheads have gone missing from a military base overseas. With the situation having the potential to destabilise political tensions among nuclear power playing countries, Stone has no choice but the return to a job he's not keen on doing anymore. Stone is able to bring together some of the previous team members, adding new members, but they are no longer the well oiled machine they once were. Their analyst may be a borderline genius straight out of college but she is green and when lives are on the line Stone is worried they may not have the skills they need to get the job done.
I absolutely love a edge of the seat political thriller and this audio book did not disappoint. This audiobook is brilliantly narrated and the range of accents produced is excellent.
I won't give any spoilers but I loved the ending to this book. It was surprising and incredibly interesting. If only real life could work out this way.
I highly recommend this book have already purchased the Luke Stone book number five and I can't wait to start it.
eBook Review – Oppose Any Foe – Jack Mars “Oppose Any Foe” by Jack Mars is book four in the best-selling and critically acclaimed Luke Stone series.
I previously read and reviewed the three prior novels via my iPad (tablet), plus the audiobook short story in this political/espionage/military thriller series and really enjoyed Mars’ creative prose of this series. Like the earlier tales, Oppose Any Foe is a wild adventure ride with lots of action and continuous suspense.
This is a very worthwhile series that clearly captivates the reader with its thrilling action, gripping suspense, and engaging plots. I recommend the early books in this series to espionage thriller readers in order because the earlier novels provide important details about Luke Stone and other repeating characters.
When a small arsenal of US nuclear weapons are stolen from a NATO base in Europe, the world scrambles to figure out who the culprits are and what or who their target is – and to stop them before they unleash hell on humanity. With worldwide tension growing, the newly elected female President has no choice but to call in Luke Stone, the former head of an elite FBI paramilitary team to find the nukes.
In this action-packed, international cat-and-mouse hunt for the bombs, Stone and his paramilitary team break rules and steer into the murky fog of war and espionage in their desperate search for the weapons.
This quick eBook read was an anxiety-laden political thriller with non-stop action, dramatic international settings and heart-pounding suspense.
Again, a very worthwhile quick read that I thoroughly enjoyed.
This series isn’t merely about the antics of the American ruling class but about the personal relationships of the main characters. Our hero, Luke Stone, is married to Bekka. They have one son, Gunner. Luke is always torn between two competing interests: his family and his country. Bekka has grown frustrated with Luke answering The President’s urgent calls for his assistance. This time Bekka has recently discovered that she has end stage pancreatic cancer. Amongst her final decisions she promised Luke that she will give custody of their son to her parents to be raised after her death. Susan, The President, has domestic troubles of her own. Her husband, who was exposed to the nation as gay, wants her to resign from the presidency. His reputation is in shreds after the very public outing of his sexuality in addition to the kidnapping of one of their two daughters in an act of political revenge. And as if that wasn’t enough, terrorists have stolen nuclear warheads that threaten a nuclear war between The United States and Russia.

When US nuclear warheads get lost in Turkey, who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters? Nah, Luke Stone and his right-hand, Ed. In this thriller, Luke and Ed are pitted against the forces of several countries and terriost groups, plus a deadline from Putin himself.
Just another day in the office for the pair of heros. I don't know how Ed gets all of these days off to save the world. I joke about the book, but I've started listening to the next one in the series already. The plot lines are plausible and the characters are relatable. I have the same problem as Ed, getting time off to save the world.
I find these very enjoyable in my car for 2-3 hour trips. Their length works well and the suspense keeps you alert.
Again the Luke Stone thriller book 4 did not disappoint. Enjoyed it but my wife got mad at me for reading too much on our camping trip. I finished book three and four in two and half days. Loved them. I await reading the remaining books. Great job. Luke Stone and his team are tremendous but handicap when a member is missing. What a twist on this book but glad they accomplished their mission.
__________________________________________ 1 star = Did not finish / did not like 2 stars = Had trouble keeping attention to finish 3 stars = Good enjoyable book. A great way to spend my time. 4 stars = Couldn't set the book down. Engaging. Great Book. Will likely reread when more of the series is released. 5 stars = (4 stars) plus such a good book I will re-read it periodically. ___________________________________________
Nuclear warheads stolen,,,, the new elected female President, just returning to the White House after it was bombed, burned, and rebuilt is trying to make sure that nuclear war is not going to happen under her watch.
She has no choice to call Luke Stone. Stone has saved her life on two separate occasions and she needs his expertise now. By calling him and almost giving him carte blanch, she is going against the wishes are her trusted advisors
Another well written adventure that keeps you on edge to see what happens next. The characters are intriguing and have issues not necessarily related to their jobs but typical to everyone.
Good story, a four star rating. This series is more like a Saturday morning serial: a continuation of the action with little change in characters or scenery. The action continues... yes, I am looking for the next chapter in this long story.
