51 books41 followersHelen Peters is the author of The Secret Hen House Theatre. She grew up on an old-fashioned farm in Sussex, surrounded by family, animals and mud. She spent most of her childhood reading stories and putting on plays in a tumbledown shed that she and her friends turned into a theatre. After university, she realised that she needed to find a job where someone would pay her to read stories and put on plays (though maybe not in a tumbledown shed) and so she became an English and Drama teacher. Several years later, finding herself as a stay-at-home mother of two, she decided to have a go at writing the sort of book she’d so enjoyed as a child. Helen lives with her husband and children in London, and she can still hardly believe that she now gets to call herself a writer.

An otter called Pebble is another beautiful story about Jasmine and her best friend Tom who in this book, find and rescue an otter cub they name Pebble.
Jasmine falls in love with Pebble and wants to keep him but comes to understand that otters need to live in the wild. Pebble gets taken to a rescue centre (Manu - Jasmine's younger brother - causes mayhem in between) to be cared for and will be rehabilitated into the wild. Jasmine learns that if a young otter is away from its family for more than 3 days, the mother rejects them back into the family. Learning this, Jasmine and Tom become determined to reunite Pebble with his family and they desperately race against the clock to do so.
This book has fantastic information in relation to otters and children will love the well crafted characters like real friends.
I shared this book with my daughter and she loves it. She can't wait for the rest of the books in the series. I have read two other books in this series myself and thoroughly enjoyed them. This is certainly a series I'd recommend for all children.

Very cute little story with lovely detail about otters.

Jasmine and Tom find a single otter cub alone on the riverbank and set to take care of it until it can be released safely once she's older and stronger, however, a charity comes to collect him sadly but with crafty brother Manu causing mayhem it maybe just be the right move.
But just where did the otter come from and can they find his family?
A lovely story about the joy the friends have looking after their beloved local animals once again and unique finding an otter around the UK too the series is great for getting kids involved in learning about animals.

Nie wiem jak wy, ale ja uwielbiam książki dla dzieci o zwierzętach. Zazwyczaj to mądre i pełne uroku historie i tak też jest w przypadku "Wydry zwanej Kamyczkiem". Opowieść ta jest nie tylko miła, ale i mądra, uczy młodego czytelnika odpowiednich zachowań w przypadku kontaktu z dzikim zwierzęciem, oraz ogrzewa serce pełnym miłości do przyrody podejściem.
Helen Peters pokazała nam życie wydr, ich wyjątkowość i to, że są bardzo rzadkie i trudne do zaobserwowania. Dostajemy tu garść informacji, które pomogą nam bezinwazyjnie zaglądnąć w życie tych rzecznych zwierząt. Dziecko nauczy się rozróżniać ślady, dbać o delikatność i ciszę, a to wszystko nie tylko rozpala wyobraźnię, ale również nakłania małego odkrywcę do ruszenia w teren.
"Wydra zwana Kamyczkiem" to siódmy tom serii Dębowa Farma i ja z wielką przyjemnością sięgnęłabym po poprzednie części. Ważną informacją jest, że nie musicie czytać tej serii od pierwszego tomu, możecie tak jak ja, zacząć od siódmego i nie czuć się ani trochę zagubionym. Dziecko może sobie wybrać zwierzątko, które najbardziej je interesuje, a jest w czym wybierać, bo ukazały się już książeczki o : śwince, kaczątku, piesku, kotku, baranku, kózce i opisanej wydrze.
W historii, o której piszę, Jasmine i Tom odnajdują małą wyderkę i robią, co mogą, by jej pomóc. Dębowa Farma, to idealne miejsce dla zwierząt, bo mama Jasmine jest weterynarzem, a tata farmerem i już nieraz ratowali zbłąkane stworzenie.
Może "Wydra zwana Kamyczkiem" nie jest napisana w olśniewającym stylu, bo jest to prosta, łatwa i lekka opowieść, to zdecydowanie ma wiele zalet. Dla dziecka może być początkiem fascynacji przyrodą, a może początkiem drogi do zostania np. weterynarzem?
Wydanie jest proste, tekturowe, bardzo lekkie i dobre do czytania. Ma w sobie czar, jest przyjemne i co bardzo ważne, niedrogie. Książeczki są w bardzo przystępnej cenie i łatwo zebrać całą kolekcję. Dodatkowym plusem są ilustracje Ellie Snowdon, które sprawiają, że wszystko nabiera realności.

A great book,it’s got so much information about wildlife rehabilitation and being kind to animals.there are obstacles jasmine has to overcome as she did in every book.I throughly enjoyed this book and this will definitely be a re-read
