Wall Street Journal bestselling author SJ Scott wanted to be Luke Skywalker when he grew up.

Unfortunately his complete lack of physical grace and introverted mannerism's kept the earth from having their own Jedi Knight to battle the Sith menace.

Steve “SJ” Scott was born and raised in New Jersey. After finishing college with a degree in psychology he knew he needed to further his education or work on his latte making skills.

During a short stint in US Air Force, Scott was able to get his Master’s in business and then moved on to conquer the business world.

Scott then spent a couple of years working for a company not unlike the company depicted in Mike Judge’s film, “Office Space”. After doing his share of “TPS” reports, Scott swore he would never work for anyone but himself.

He spent the next few years making this happen. Making a decent living online and eventually pivoting to writing books, blogging and even podcasting.

Scott has written over 30 books, most of them in the "self-improvement" genre. An area that he is personally passionate about.

His books have been published in 12 different languages. So he is well on his way to world domination. However, in his heart of hearts he knows he will soon have to venture out into the universe and defeat the Sith menace.

nothing you shouldn’t already know

Book is extremely long-winded for basically providing common sense tips for saving..3 hr read? sheesshh
Don’t get me wrong, if you are a teenager or a young adult that has literally no concept or understanding of dealing with money then this book will definitely get you up to speed as to why spending money you don’t have is the reason you’re broke.. if you haven’t already figured that out for yourself.
but if you’re not financially illiterate and already know not to spend $4 at starbucks every morning to increase your savings then you’re not gonna get much value out of this book.
TO SUMMARIZE:
- look for deals to spend less when possible
- stop eating out
- ditch the credit cards..you’re spending money you don’t have
- thrift shop (because it’s not just a hipster thing)
- Save at least 10% of every dollar you make
- automate your savings deposits so it’s not something you have to think about
- and stop keeping up with the joneses...nobody actually cares, and you’re going broke trying to impress other people..bummer

I was just talking to kid 1 about saving money and they quoted ‘Einstein said compound interest is the most powerful force in the universe.’
*blinks*
‘It’s from Civ 4, Mum.’
Right.
And Einstein is not wrong, even if he may not have said that.

But this is a US-centric book, so not so applicable for me as an Aussie, but a lot of the principles are the same; the links just aren’t as useful.
But I totally agree with some of their hints, especially use your local library. I can’t tell you how much I’ve saved borrowing audiobooks for free via the Libby and Overdrive apps.
I reckon the biggest hint is just ASK: ask for a better interest rate, or a cheaper monthly fee, or a better service, or a discount, or a delayed payment date. You just never know.
Being SJ Scott, it’s all linked to habits and goals as well. None of these hints will work if you don’t have a goal. So, build your action plan, know why you’re doing this, and don’t forget to reward yourself.
And as per usual, for less than a dollar, this book is a good use of your money.

Easy read with a lot of good tips

I read this book when I had $23,000 left in debt to pay off. I started at $125,000 in debt when I started the Ramsey plan. This book incorporates ideas from Ramsey, while also expanding on them. They use “levers” instead of “steps”, but the concepts are very similar. I do like how they discuss the emotional effects of owing certain people money and paying those off first. That is usually only briefly mentioned by others in the financial space. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the investment advice. When you have never invested before it’s nice to have some direction on where to potentially start. It always frustrates me that Dave Ramsey would recommend mutual funds, which you need a financial advisor for and that’s just another expense. This book definitely gives you options to think about and consider, which I appreciate.
I made a lot of notes and did a lot of highlighting, which is an excellent sign. I will recommend this to my friends to read to help them achieve their financial goals

Ultimate practicality

This book was very practical. It was easy to follow, informative and empowering. I would definitely recommend this for readers. I was able to execute some of the action plans and in just some weeks able to save $500. I learned new money management skills that I think will become new habits for a positive change. Although methods and references were designed for the US I was still able to adopt methods for my country in the Caribbean. I honestly feel enlightened on completion . So feel free, and give it a shot. Nothing to lose. Only money to stack which is the ultimate objective of this enjoyable book.

Stack your savings, is one of the best personal finance books I’ve ever read. I believe that personal finance should be implemented into the core curriculum in high school. Financial literacy is key, no one should be clueless about credit and finance when they could start learning it in their early teens. This book, give readers a comprehensive guide on how to cut corners to save substantial amount of money. One section that caught my attention was when the author talking about groceries and how people spend a lot of groceries, and eating out. Throughout the book, o took a lot of notes and started implementing some pointers that the author recommended such as saving at least 10-15% of your income. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to start learning to become financial literate and to anyone who wants to get a grip on their finances. I plan on buying this book and adding it to my library collection.

This is an Awesome book to read over several times. Make sure to take notes.
It really helps you put your life in order.
I am working on some of the idea's already from this book.
I think every family needs this book in their own library to read at home and have their children read it as well. Or better yet, read it with your children and discuss a action of plan to follow.
GREAT BOOK!!

A practical book with powerful principles, effectual scenarios and appropriate action plans for financial savings. Regarding its great tips, I have made a few changes in my lifestyle. For example, one of my habits was that I would buy coffee on the way towards university or work every day, but I now make it at home and could save the money on my savings account around £90 monthly.

This book has good intentions, and decent information, but it tries to cover too much content. Each topic, whether home ownership, food or credit cards, gets the surface scratched, but you will need to look elsewhere to find the details needed to take control of these areas in your life. Would recommend Your Money or Your Life, by Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez, as a better alternative.

Quick read, just skimmed through the book. Few good points here and there, most of them are known. Not much for other than US audience. Still some tips are worth implementing. Thank you for the book
