George R.R. Martin
1,506 books118k followersGeorge Raymond Richard "R.R." Martin was born September 20, 1948, in Bayonne, New Jersey. His father was Raymond Collins Martin, a longshoreman, and his mother was Margaret Brady Martin. He has two sisters, Darleen Martin Lapinski and Janet Martin Patten.
Martin attended Mary Jane Donohoe School and Marist High School. He began writing very young, selling monster stories to other neighborhood children for pennies, dramatic readings included. Later he became a comic book fan and collector in high school, and began to write fiction for comic fanzines (amateur fan magazines). Martin's first professional sale was made in 1970 at age 21: The Hero, sold to Galaxy, published in February, 1971 issue. Other sales followed.
In 1970 Martin received a B.S. in Journalism from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, graduating summa cum laude. He went on to complete a M.S. in Journalism in 1971, also from Northwestern.
As a conscientious objector, Martin did alternative service 1972-1974 with VISTA, attached to Cook County Legal Assistance Foundation. He also directed chess tournaments for the Continental Chess Association from 1973-1976, and was a Journalism instructor at Clarke College, Dubuque, Iowa, from 1976-1978. He wrote part-time throughout the 1970s while working as a VISTA Volunteer, chess director, and teacher.
In 1975 he married Gale Burnick. They divorced in 1979, with no children. Martin became a full-time writer in 1979. He was writer-in-residence at Clarke College from 1978-79.
Moving on to Hollywood, Martin signed on as a story editor for Twilight Zone at CBS Television in 1986. In 1987 Martin became an Executive Story Consultant for Beauty and the Beast at CBS. In 1988 he became a Producer for Beauty and the Beast, then in 1989 moved up to Co-Supervising Producer. He was Executive Producer for Doorways, a pilot which he wrote for Columbia Pictures Television, which was filmed during 1992-93.
Martin's present home is Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is a member of Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America (he was South-Central Regional Director 1977-1979, and Vice President 1996-1998), and of Writers' Guild of America, West.

每一章的標題都是人名，讓不同人物輪流講故事，讀者可以站在不同視角上窺視角色內心的想法，觀察國與國之間的關係。因為每個人都在同個空間生活，每章都會輪流提起同個事件或是認識的人物，章節交錯，前後呼應，比影集還好跟，也比較好掌握這幾個家族之間的關係。
比較介意的地方是艾德.史塔克在書裡有個暱稱是「奈德」，本來以為是凱特琳或是國王會叫的稱呼，怎知喬治大叔連寫故事的時候都是艾德奈德輪著用，上一段還是「艾德」覺得，下一段又變「奈德」心想，同一頁這樣交錯用，就算知道是同個人也會亂的好嗎？在人物已經多到要記不住的時候真的好困擾，看了三分之一還要想一下是不是同一個人。
史塔克一家在第一本中最寫實的人物是嫁給艾德的凱特琳.徒利，她討厭雪諾是很自然的行為，她在布蘭受傷後的歇斯底里跟不理智，還有聽信兒時玩伴的謊言惹出大禍也很符合人性。雖然當上帝視角的讀者看她這樣真的快被氣死，但每個行為又情有可原，讓人看得心情很糾結。
珊莎跟艾莉亞的關係因為淑女出現裂痕也是很寫實，雖然我不太喜歡前期的珊莎，但本該守護她的小狼莫名其妙被妹妹害死真的很難釋懷，她還願意跟艾莉亞講話已經很厲害。只是艾德老爸看姐妹倆這樣心很累，他跟艾莉亞說「無論妳多生氣，別拿劍刺妳姐姐就好。」這句無奈到讓我笑出來ＸＤ
卓戈卡薩跟他的龍后卡麗熙的部分也是神還原，但蘭尼斯特家的可恨程度好像沒有小說這麼強，真的從第一本開始就好希望他們下地獄喔 第四季還第五季的裸體遊街根本不夠啊，超想把他們切成一片片的，想到他們把狼弄死就氣憤（過度入戲）

超乎預期的好看
不喜歡中世紀劍與魔法題材，
卻一股腦陷下去，
太好看了，
作者真的很會說故事，
看完小說
準備去看影集了。
