IF: Broken

Rate this book
The IF series reaches its extraordinary conclusion in Broken, the final installment of the adventure that’s “brilliant, imaginative…unlike anything you’ve read before!”

Cole and his friends have reached the end of their journey. The Pinch lies ahead, and somewhere within the bowels of the dark castle at the heart of the Boundarylands, they’ll find Broken…and, if they’re lucky, a way home. But if Cole wants to have any hope of reconciliation with his long-lost IF, he’ll have to face the evil Royal, whose darkness has spread through the imaginary lands, and whose power is stronger than ever.

In this exciting, imaginative, startling conclusion, Clayton Smith brings the IF series to a powerful, poignant, and heartbreaking end.

I put off reading the end of the series for a while in the same way you might ration your favorite candy in a box 'o chocolates (read that in an obligatory Forrest Gump voice please)--I knew it would be solidly written and thoroughly delightful. It did NOT disappoint. Absolutely loved the "battle" in the climax. Although we all love sequels because we know they'll be in a style we trust in a world we love, and though this was a series (if a quick one), I really enjoyed the ending to Colemine's story and found it satisfying--like a Morgan Freeman narration at the end of a movie. That said, I would not mind if the author explored other tales in the same universe with Miss Twist (cough cough). She's a fun one and we didn't get to spend as much time with her as I might have hoped.
