Disaster has struck the Human Federation of Worlds. The Eternals have finally found Earth and are preparing to destroy it and the rest of the Federation. They begin gathering a massive fleet to overwhelm and destroy all of the Human worlds.
Fleet Admiral Jeremy Strong is far away on the far side of the universe attempting to build an alliance to stop the Eternals’ spread across countless galaxies. However, in his explorations he may have found a threat far greater than that represented by the Eternals.
The Originators along with their Human allies rush to the aid of the Federation, but it may already be too late. If the Federation falls, the Originators will lose their war against the Eternals. Massive space battles erupt and worlds are destroyed as the battle for control of the universe rushes toward its fateful climax.
I live in Clinton Oklahoma with my wife of 40 years and our cat. I attended college at SWOSU in Weatherford Oklahoma, majoring in Math with minors in Creative Writing and History.
My hobbies include watching soccer, reading, camping, and of course writing. I coached youth soccer for twelve years before moving on and becoming a high school soccer coach for thirteen more. I also enjoy playing with my five grandchildren. I have a very vivid imagination, which sometimes worries my friends. They never know what I am going to say or what I am going to do.
I am an avid reader and have a science fiction / fantasy collection of over two thousand paperbacks. The space program has always fascinated me and I've followed it since its inception. When I was a teenager, I wanted to be an astronaut. Now, I just write about it.
I really cringe when I see one of these books on my reading list. I’ve been a long time reader of Raymond L. Weil books including the first of the "Slaver Wars series” which kind of started this whole thing. Oh, the stories are good and somewhat interesting, but he’s carried this story out so far that he’s now started to repeat things.
And speaking of repeating, Mr. Weil has an annoying habit of repeating just about everything he writes two or three times in his book. This book is, of course, about the Eternals against the Human, Originators and Altons fighting a war that will seemingly never end. The Eternals are a group of Originators who chose to augment their DNA far beyond what the founding Originators had intended. They separated from this original group, started a war, got beaten, but then broke out of their containment galaxy and now have grown so vast that it doesn’t appear anyone can stop them from dominating the universe. These Eternals are smarter than humans, more physically endowed than humans, longer live than normal humans and they seem to always need to remind themselves of these “superior” traits. I don’t know how many times I read, “We are the Eternals and are superior to all other races!”. That seem to be written in every conversation between any two or more Eternals. They probably say it to themselves over and over to just convince themselves that it’s true! I think once is enough.
Yet, this book is filled with repeated statements not only about the Eternals, but about the “Special Five” which includes Fleet Admiral Jeremy Armstrong, Kelsey, Kevin, Kate and Angela. All of them are married to each other or to some Marine in the case of Angela. They are all on an exploration mission going out farther than they have ever done to try and find some help against the Eternals. The explorations ships they have built have family units inside so they all could take their children along even though there is a possibility that the might encounter more hostile aliens.
And that’s kind of what happens in this book. Meanwhile, the Eternals have some up with a plan to solve their Human and Alton problem. They need to destroy the home worlds to the Humans and Altons and thereby eliminating those races from the war. Their supreme council proposes to send a huge fleet to Earth and New Tellus as well as the Altons home world and finish these places off. There, I just kind of repeated myself, as does Mr. Weil a whole lot. So, will the Humans and Altons survive and what’s going to happen to Jeremy if he finds another hostile alien civilization?
Well, remember when I said Mr. Weil likes to repeat his stories? It’s going to happen again. Try to get through this if you can. I’m not sure I’m going to go any further.
The thing that bothers me about this book is the size of things, from easily hopping between galaxies to stupidly large numbers of space ships that make the battles lack finesse and not much in the way of tactics other than to stay put and punch each other until someone withdraws or one side has been utterly destroyed.
Still, humans and their partners prevail albeit suffering horrific losses and the Eternals, well, they’re just stupid and arrogantly so. Meanwhile, the presence of Admiral Strong’s exploratory fleet in yet another distant galaxy is about to give humanity and its allies a new and more ruthless enemy to deal with.
Provided they survive being sucked into another universe.
Good book but it’s hard to read; both sides never change their strategies so every battle looks the same - monotonous and predictable. And to make matters worse, the Eternals are losing ships... but not suffering he same loss of life being inflicted; with the loss of their fleet, they’re just content to rebuild and leave us alone and find other galaxies to conquer...
And I hope the author is going to remedy this and the sooner, the better.
Lots of fighting from beginning to end those darned Eternals are everywhere!!!
Best book of the series, with each book added the story continues to evolve and grow better and better!!! In this one the Originators Nemesis and archrivals, the Eternals are coming for the humans and Altons. The Originator Humans and Altons, along with support of the Originators, will have to join with and lead the Federation in defending the Human and Alton planets.
Another excellent addition to a wonderful series. BRAVO!
I was introduced to this author with the Earth Fall series, I very quickly found The Slaver Wars and Lost Fleet series. I am still working my way through all the rest but have not found a disappointing story yet. This is among my favorite books of the series. Waiting on pins and needles for the next book.
I've been reading this long series for years, going all the way back to Moon Wreck- The Slaver Wars. This is one of the best. Tons of action, universe wide strategies, and of course, the evolving lives of the Special Five, their growing families, and their friends. Highly recommend the entire series. Good work, Raymond. Please keep them coming!
I enjoyed this book very much I found it a fast paced read. It is space combat at its best, ships and distances so vast that you have to think about the grandeur of the space battles. I enjoy the The characters in the series, the technology is great and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Outstanding, cannot wait until September to continue reading. I only stopped reading long enough to sleep, completed reading in less than 24 hours! If you enjoy reading sci-fi you won't be disappointed in this novel.
Brilliant, outstanding etc etc etc. This cannot be the end. Jason and Clair will come into there own and continue the Strong Legacy. Characterisation was up to Mr Weil’s usual high standard and the twists and turns worthy of this awesome space opera.
I have enjoyed reading all of Raymond Weil’s books. In the latest the Special Five are back and the war the continues, with a few surprise as we have come too expected from them and this great author. I look forward to the next one in this series. I very much hope your health returns quickly.
No way, how foul can you get, the Creevak must die. Remember the New Horizon. Rescue and annihilation force must be dispatched ASAP. Save the Special Five...execute. Thanks for a GoodRead.
I enjoyed the book as I did the whole series. Cliffhangers are to be expected in a series, but this book ends with The Biggest Cliffhanger Ever. Can't wait for next in series . .
This has to be one of the most exciting and thrilling books from Raymond so far.I have read most of his series and the lost fleet is still my favourite. I'm glad you're feeling better keep up the great work. An avid reader☺
This is a great series. As the three races battle the Externals, a foe from another universe arrives to threaten all life. A cliff hanging end lives me wishing for the next volume.
The author returned to one of the series that I enjoy reading. I was happy that the readers get to read more about the authors best series with some new twists. Overall the book was good and left me wanting more.
I love the stuff he's put into his story - Dyson Spheres, Originators, AIs, and the huge space battles. What I didn't like was the constant "copy paste" bits of "Kevin loved his hamburgers" and the stuff the bears keep repeating about honor. Otherwise - love the huge space battles!
Loved the ending of this book. I was getting a little tired of all the battles being described in similar fashion but the ending was great! Can’t wait to see how this turns out in the next book!
Outstanding new book !!!! I look forward to reading more in this new series. Raymond Well has takes his place amount the legends of military sci-fi writers.
