A fascinating short story!
Carol Tate presented me with a fabulous evening, introducing the characters of her Kiwi Falls series in the prequel Heartbeat. The story captures you totally from the very first sentences and holds you tightly right up to the end, making your heart skip a beat now and again. The narrative is filled with action and emotion that step by step reveal the subtleties of the characters’ vivid individualities and leave you no choice but to fall in love with Jeff and Evelyn. Can't wait to read the series.

Action packed and with a pace that will have you running to keep up, this debut prequel is a great hook to the first novel in the series.
I like the author's writing style and while the lie, never trust a book by it's cover, is repeated time and time again, it was the cover that initially made me take note of this short story. All in all an interesting yarn.

Excellent read,a great hook to get snare on,leaving you wanting to know the rest of the story. Can't wait to read the rest of the series and see how the Jaes get on

My heart breaks on the page, again and again. The actional emotional pace was high and by the end, I wanted more Jae. Such a start.
