Épicure
Épicure fut le parangon d'une doctrine philosophique de recherche du bonheur ; un bonheur auquel on accédait par la limitation des plaisirs et la sérénité de l'âme. Il mit à mal les conventions sociales de son époque en reniant l'importance de la richesse et en critiquant les inégalités sociales ainsi que l'esclavage. Plus qu'une école philosophique, son Jardin consistait en une communauté égalitaire dans laquelle chacun, sans exception, était le bienvenu.
