Érasme marqua la pensée de son époque avec son attitude conciliante et son esprit critique et réformiste. Très attaché aux valeurs humanistes, ce théologien connu notamment pour ses Adages et son Éloge de la folie mit son ingéniosité et sa perspicacité au service de la réforme de la société d'alors, ravagée par l'ignorance et le fanatisme. Misant résolument sur la paix et la tolérance, cette grande figure de la culture européenne fut incontestablement un précurseur de l'esprit moderne.

Various is the correct author for any book with multiple unknown authors, and is acceptable for books with multiple known authors, especially if not all are known or the list is very long (over 50).

If an editor is known, however, Various is not necessary. List the name of the editor as the primary author (with role "editor"). Contributing authors' names follow it.
