On the precipice of change … Just not the way he’d expected …

Kerrick is tagged to join a new elite group, where he’d have more say and less rules on missions. Working mostly alone, he’s to track down a kidnapped victim suspected of being in England, and likely she’s not the only one. This is his kind of job; finding out a longtime friend is his backup makes this mission a go.

Amanda is snatched at the end of her workday while walking to her vehicle. Days later she wakes to find she’s imprisoned, alone in a small cement cell. One rotting meal a day is provided, and that is it. Once she realizes someone else is here—a young boy—she’s even more determined to escape. And to take him with her. Running into Kerrick wasn’t the plan …

Escaping is only one part of the puzzle as the truth drags them to Europe and beyond as they sort out how the two kidnappings are related, who’s behind it all and why … Before they are run aground and imprisoned all over again …

WooHoo!

A very exciting new series! Secret, stealth, Black Ops, one - two man teams, little to no outside help from anyone means they're on their own for a very dangerous assignment!

I was excited to jump right into this new and exciting series about an elite operation full of adventure, danger and intrigue, all happening outside the U.S. It will test the mettle of these hand chosen warriors to see if they can handle being lead on a intricate, seemingly impossible, and very dangerous mission.

Kerrick is hand picked to find and rescue scientist, Dr. Amanda Berg, who was kidnaped outside her home in France and taken to an unknown destination. Who, where and why are what Kerrick and his teammate Griffin, need to discover to rescue Dr. Berg before she is gone forever.

I enjoyed the travel involved in this story and the ease in which Kerrick and Griffin are with moving around in foreign cities to find their clues to Amanda’s whereabouts. I love their confidence in their training and abilities to take on the enemy at a moment’s notice despite the danger to their own lives.

A very exciting story filled with adventure, realistic scenarios, danger, and wholesome kinship. This author can whip up the excitement and bring you to your knees in just a few paragraphs! This is a must read for sure and this series promises to be epic!

A great start to a new series by this author that has more action, death and suspense that will keep you flipping the pages. Kerrick is contacted to join an elite group, a group off the books to complete an assignment with little back up. The assignment, rescue Amanda who was kidnapped and is a researcher, researching new cancer cures/treatments with many contacts. Kerrick has little to go by and investigates all angles to find where she is being held and once he does locate her, she has company, a young boy genius, Brandon, who was also being held. Now they all have to evade the kidnappers and stop them before they find Amanda and Brandon.
A great read with some steam, action and suspense and great characters. I enjoyed this read, the fast pace of it and the no drama between the couples. No hiding or running away from their feelings and the way they all work together to get to the end of their ordeal.

New series, but unfortunately did not start as well as I hopped for! These two did not sizzle for me at all. Kerrick and Amanda were not clicking at all. The plot had potential, but the execution of this story did not work. Not sure I want to read the next one. I might just to see if it gets better.

Kerrick is the first book in the new Mavericks series. The Maverick's are a government-sanctioned black ops organization. Kerrick, a Navy seal, is looking for a change after years in the SEALs. When asked to help with one mission, he decides that this is the change that he needs. His assignment is to rescue a kidnapped scientist, but to keep her safe he needs to find who is behind the kidnapping. This book starts with a lot of action and does not stop until the end. Of course along with all the action is a happily ever romance. This is the start of another great Dale Mayer series

I love reading exciting, action packed, suspenseful books and this had it all. It has to be hard leaving the Seals and not knowing what to do next. That is what is happening to Kerrick when someone he knows from the past asks him to be the head in an black ops undercover assignment to find a kidnapped woman. I was glad he decided to try it. He was so good at uncovering where the woman, Amanda, was being held. He and his partner find there are more people being held besides Amanda. There was more going on that the two and their support team were finding out about. It was exciting all they went through to find out the evil that was happening. I enjoyed the book and encourage you to read it.

Twisted Suspense but Romance seemed like an afterthought!

I really enjoy Dale Mayer books about hunky Navy SEALs. So I was really looking forward to starting a new series of hers The Mavericks. I was surprised that I was not as enthralled with book 1, Kerrick, as I thought I would be. There was the usual suspense but the romance was like it was an afterthought. It left me feeling flat something I am not use to with Dale. Usually I hate for her novels to end. With Kerrick, I just sat there thinking "What just happened?"

As I said the suspense was twisted. A new Black-ops ultra secret organization recruits Kerrick a Navy SEAL fed up with bureaucracy screwing up operations and ready for a change. The mission is to rescue a kidnapped female scientist but the Intel is sketchy at best. As more Intel comes in it becomes clear that all is not as it seems. Sorting through who can be trusted and what is really going on was the kind of mystery I have come to love in Dale Mayer's novels. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat, refusing to put the book up until I could see how Dale planned to resolve this quagmire! But somewhere in the middle of all the excitement I began to think wait where is the romance! By this time Ms. Mayer has introduced some sexual tension between her two main characters. Yes the timing of their attraction is always all wrong but the two Can't seem to help themselves. As the suspense builds in the story, usually so does the relationship. In Kerrick, there is snippets of admiration between Kerrick and the female scientist. None of the usual fireworks are there. Then late in the book there is a a brief interlude and then some hand holding. It is not very well developed at all. Even the epilogue left many issues including the love affair unresolved.
It is unusual for me as a devote Dale Mayer fan to want to quit reading her book. But several times over the 24 hours it took me to read this, I was ready to shelf this novel and try something else. I stuck to it because I am a fan and she has never failed to deliver a splendid tale. Also because I am such a fan I will probably continue to read the series. I have read the synopsis of book 2 Griffin and am interested in the storyline. I am already attracted to Griffin due to his appearance in book 1 Kerrick. So I will see where this goes. But my TBD shelf is very full and this series may be on my wishlist for awhile.
As always, I recommend you read it yourself. What may not fit my taste may just be what you are looking for. I always enjoy hearing what others have to say about books I have read.

The First Book of a New Series!!

Kerrick is the first book in Dale Mayer’s new series The Mavericks, a new line of her extraordinary family of books (SEALs of Honor, Heroes for Hire, SEALs of Steel, K9 Files, and Hathaway House) about current and former Navy SEALs whose SEAL skills save lives and put away bad guys and also fight their own demons as they work to heal broken bodies and spirits. In The Mavericks we meet SEALs who are finding it difficult to accept the rigid military method for solving problems. As Kerrick so aptly described it, he began to question having men whose boots were not on the ground there make decisions about matters they couldn’t possibly comprehend from a long way off. The Mavericks group operates with short-term assignments conducted by two SEALs with boots on the ground and support from a contact behind the scenes via a chat function who provides intel and meets their supplies needs, be they food, weapons, vehicles, or some pretty cool satellite or security videos. The role of the Maverick is to get in, complete the assignment, and get out leaving no evidence of having been there.

In this first book, Kerrick is approached through a text message from another SEAL he knew a long time ago, who offers him an assignment with the assurance that it is a mission similar to one he recently completed, so he has all the skills needed. Kerrick has the choice to accept or not, and he will be asked only to do this one assignment. If he accepts leadership of mission, he will be joined by another SEAL known to him and who will provide back-up now, and then take the lead on the next mission, akin to the “learn one, do one, teach one” process I’ve seen in medical education. On this mission, Griffin joins Kerrick in the rescue of a kidnapped cancer researcher. Very exciting and really cool! When you finish Kerrick’s story, be sure to read Books 2and 3 for Griffin’s and Jax’s missions. They are released on the same day, so don’t make any other plans for at least two days after you get them. You won’t be able to stop reading until you finish the last one. No spoilers here. You have to read them for yourself.

This is the start of yet another action packed military romance series from Dale Mayer.
Kerrick Cassidy has reached a crossroads in his life, his wife and child had been killed in a car accident a few years before , he had been a highly decorated navy SEAL but his time with his team was coming to an end. He is unsure what direction his life is going to take when he receives a mysterious text message from a guy that he had known a long time ago and who he had heard had joined the military.
Kerrick had loved his time in the navy but had become disillusioned with all the red tape and restrictions.
The text message asked for a meeting and Kerrick was to learn of a US Government funded maverick team of black opp operators who worked alone or in very small teams, usually two members and with very few restrictions, any help, information or anything else required was asked for and given via a chat window on a computer from the nameless employer. Kerrick was offered a job and decided to give it a try.
Dr Amanda Berg, a research scientist who was on the verge of discovering a cure for cancer, was kidnapped in France and taken to England, she was held in a concrete cell with only a cot, a thin blanket, a chamber pot and very little food. Amanda's father had requested help to find her.
In another cell was a twelve year old boy, Brandon Coleman, who had a very high Mensa IQ and who managed to converse with Amanda using Morse code.
Amanda manages to escape taking Brandon with her. Was someone trying to steal Amanda's research ?, was she up for ransom ?, was Brandon's father involved ? Here the story and the action begin and Kerrick has Griffin to back him.
This book contains action, kidnapping, corruption, trafficking of body parts and of course romance, the author is to be recommended for her military knowledge
This is a standalone book but the epilogue gently leads to the next story and I can't wait to read it. I predict that this series will be another runaway success for Dale Mayer.

Kerrick has been a Navy Seal long enough to know he needed more at this point in his life. Once he embraced the regulation of the service especially after losing his wife and daughter to an accident years ago but now at 34 years of age, he was ready for a change. This change was offered by a covert black ops team ready to protect with different rules. The call came from a friend who offered this change and in the course of the conversation Kerrick called him a bit of a maverick. The friend liked the word "Maverick" and it stayed as an ID for this newly forming organization.
So Kerrick accepted this challenge and soon was off to England to save the kidnapped girl---well, woman, Dr. Amanda Berg and also (unknown to Kerrick) the boy she had saved from another cell in the prison. Amanda and Brandon were escaping when Kerrick arrived.
Apparently Amanda had multiple people who might want her kidnapped including her dad's enemies, the research lab where she worked making great advances in cancer research and her ex-husband who had signed a prenup and got nothing in their divorce. Brandon had issues as well.
So Kerrick was off to find Amanda which was no small task, rescue her and find answers to the kidnapping to keep her safe. There was also the matter of Brandon who was only 10 years old but a member of Mensa as was Amanda. Griffin (a member of "Maverick") joined Kerrick at the prison for the escape. The banter among these people is absolutely priceless.
There is no lack of adventure in both the escape from prison and the need to survive and the battle to find answers afterwards. I don't want to say more for fear of giving away too much.
Great start to a new series that I'm ready to follow.

This is the start of a new series, a black ops group just starting out but with plenty of resources. Kerrick is approached by a friend as he is counting down to leaving the SEALs. The mission would be a one and done, with only one other person for backup.

This mission is to find and rescue kidnapped scientist Amanda Berg, she's been in the news lately for her discoveries in cancer research. Not an easy task since apparently whoever was watching over her lost her trail.

Amanda had woken in a small cell, without a watch she couldn't determine how much time had past exactly, but she figured about a day. She knew someone would be looking for her, she just hoped they'd hurry. She also heard crying so she wasn't totally alone in captivity.

As Kerrick methodically follows the steps from the ferry where she was last sighted, Amanda hears morse code, and discovers there's a young boy being held on the floor above her. Now she's even more determined to escape and take the boy with her.

Finding what he was looking for, Kerrick makes plans to get in and get Amanda. His backup is a pleasant surprise, Griffin is a former SEAL as well. They'd get this job done. However Amanda has a surprise for both of them.

Now getting rescued appears to be the easy part, the getting totally away is another story entirely. Very interesting thought processes involved all of them including Brandon who has a very useful photographic memory.

Fast paced, action packed, with lots of mysterious connections, plenty of suspense and I fell in love with Kerrick just as much as Amanda does.

I love that Dale is releasing the first three books in this series on the same day, it just confirms that am already hooked on this series.

Kerrick was at loose ends when he gets a text to meet a friend at a pub. His friend makes him an offer he ultimately can't refuse. He is propositioned to join a team that is so dark ops that it would be very hard for anyone to find. He is tasked with finding Amanda, a scientist on the brink of finding a cure for breast cancer, unfortunately she is kidnapped outside of her office in Paris without much of a trace.

Kerrick has no rules to follow, only his gut and a chatbox on his computer for help at first. When he managed to finally find where she is being held he finds that he has help from another old friend who is tapped to work for The Mavericks.

Amanda is well on her way to escaping her captives along with Brandon, a ten-year-old boy who is also being held captive. Kerrick and Griffen save them just as they are about to escape from the building and thus begins the work to fit all of the pieces together to solve this puzzle before she is taken again. They know some of the players but there are lots of twists and turns to be had before all is revealed.

This story was filled with lots of traveling and some scary intelligence from people we never meet. The people behind the chatbox. This promises to be an action-packed new series that will keep the reader on the edge of his or her seat. I know it did me.

The characters are strong and each has a remarkable set of skills to bring to the table, both the captives and the rescuers. Brandon was a hoot and quite remarkable for a 10-year-old boy. It would be fun to seem him again and I hope we get to see more of Kerrick and Amanda.

My review today is on the Military Suspense, Kerrick. This is the first book in the series, The Mavericks. I really like Dale's books but I was disappointed that he did have a sex scene (although not a graphic one) hidden in the middle of the book. I really liked the storyline, the action scenes, and the characters. I just like his clean books better but I do recommend this book.

Navy SEAL Kerrick Cassidy has come to a time of change. Does he stay in the SEALs when all the rules and people have changed or does he try to find a new purpose in life? He's thirty-four and the old guy on the team. Can he trust all these new guys with his back and all the changes in the rules? Suddenly he receives a phone call that changes everything. He is given a chance to do a black op like he never has before. He's to find a scientist that has been kidnapped. He has an unlimited budget and all the info he can dream of asking.

Scientist Amanda Berg has just found the cure for breast cancer. She is ready to begin human trials when she is kidnapped and kept in a cold, dark, prison cell. She's kept there being drugged each time she's fed. Her boss comes into her cell and tells her her notes are corrupt. She hears a morse code message coming from above her cell, a ten-year-old boy. She manages to get out of her cell and rescue the boy. They run into Kerrick and his fellow Maverick, Griffin.

An amazing journey to escape the men that have captured these two and to find out why but also to help the other people that were also kept in the sanitarium.

Dale Mayer is a good writer and it is disappointing that this book is far from her best. I gave it 2 1/2 stars, rounding up to a 3 because it lacked so much:
1) grammatical errors (more than I'm used to reading in her books)
2) unsympathetic characters - very little chemistry between the two protagonists and way too many supporting characters without much to say for themselves; they were simply devices to move the story along, no real life in them
3) unresolved issues - wait! a young good guy blackmailing the bad guys? where did that go in the storyline? Or should that tidbit have been edited out?
4) really weird summation at the end by the female lead, poorly executed, bordering on the cheesy. Do reread Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot books for ripping good summations.
5) romance between the lead characters felt odd and stilted, unbelievable
I could go on, but these are enough to get my point across. This book is just not up to a Dale Mayer standard. Not sure if I want to read the next book in the series, although of all the characters in the book, the secondary lead, Griffin, had more charisma and was a far more interesting character than any of the others...put together. Sadly, that isn't really saying much.

Kerrick is the suspense filled first book of Dale Mayer's new series called The Mavericks.

Having ended his career with the Navy SEALS, Kerrick Cassidy is about to move out of his apartment on the base while still wondering what he will do next. Almost on cue he is contacted by a former service member with an opportunity to run a mission for a secret high level black ops group.

The main difference between this organization and the SEALS is that he will not have teammates on his left and right. The only other boots on the ground assigned to him is Griffin, another SEAL who is looking for a change from the Navy. The rest of his new "team" is always available to help him, but in a much different way from the past. It seems fitting to name this group The Mavericks.

This mission to recover a kidnapped victim is not his first rescue, but Dr. Amanda Berg is nothing like any woman he met before and this is far from a simple abduction. The path to removing the danger to Amanda, a young boy named Brandon and others keeps them on the move and keeps the reader guessing.

The Mavericks are skilled men from different military branches and have been approached to join this secret covert black-ops group.
Kerrick is asked to find a missing doctor, Amanda. We follow Kerrick in his search of a woman who has captured his interest and has also rescued a little boy who she found in the same compound where she had been held captive.
This is a fast-paced story that is packed with plenty of drama Mavericks are highly skilled men from different military sections and have been approached to join this secret covert black-ops group.
Kerrick is approached to find a missing doctor, Amanda who no-one has seen for a while. We follow Kerrick as he works his way through the new company and their workings in search of a woman who has captured his interest. Amanda is a strong character, intelligent and incredibly protective of a little boy who she found in the same compound where she's being held captive.
This is a fast-paced story that is packed with plenty of drama and action. The chemistry between Kerrick and Amanda was instantaneous and sizzling. Highly entertaining, I can't wait for more alpha characters in this series.

Entertaining Adventure!

Greatly enjoyed "Kerrick" - the first book of "The Mavericks" series. Kendrick Cassidy has been a Navy SEAL for many years and is ready for a change. He leaves the Navy and accepts an offer of work with a secret government -sanctioned black ops team "The Mavericks". He is the first agent to implement the Mavericks Program. No one outside of those who are part of the program can know about The Mavericks!

The effort is a two man undercover mission. Kerrick is teamed with an old friend named Griffin. Their task is to track down a kidnapped biochemist, Dr. Amanda Berg, who was taken at the end of her workday and has totally disappeared. The only lead they have is a photo showing her asleep in the backseat of a blue car being transported by ferry. The tension grows as they desperately try to locate the mysterious blue car! It disappeared immediately after leaving the ferry! The investigation by Kerrick has the tension growing! At this point I could not put this book down! So many twists and turns in this plot! And a gentle romance to add to the enjoyment of this story! I Very Highly recommend this book! A great read!!!

I received a complimentary copy of this book via Booksprout, and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This book is the beginning of a new series by Dale Mayer. It is about a new covert black ops group called the Mavericks. This book is an exciting romantic suspense with complex characters and an elaborate plot.

The action begins in the first chapter where we meet Dr. Amanda Berg, a biochemist, who is locked up, alone, in a windowless room having just been kidnapped. Kerrick, a new member of The Mavericks, is sent to find and release her.

The rest of the book follows Amanda and the rest of her group as they try to stay safe and search for her kidnappers.

Amanda is a fantastic role model for the modern woman. She is a brilliant scientist who has dedicated her life to finding a cure for cancer. She is independent, brave and outspoken.

Kerrick is a former SEAL who is brave and very smart. He is also kind, gentle and empathetic to Amanda’s situation. Most of all, he is very respectful and supportive of Amanda’s strengths and capabilities!

Kerrick by Dale Mayer
The Mavericks Series Book One
Kerrick Cassidy was ready for something new in his life. Ever since his wife and baby died, he'd buried himself in the navy. But, his time there was done. When an old friend calls and offers him a new job...he accepts. In no time at all he finds himself in England searching for a kidnapped victim with an unknown team at his fingertips.

Dr. Amanda Berg was so close to finding a cure for cancer. She was up to the human trial stage. Her dream after losing a friend to cancer so young. Only...life changes when she's kidnapped. She has to escape the first chance she gets...and, she has to help another victim escape this hellhole.

And thus the adventure begins in this new series. Kerrick is joined by Griffin and together they'll do all they can to protect Amanda and the young boy she rescued, as well as getting to the bottom of this kidnapping ring. Another good series from this author.

This story starts off with suspense and just keeps rolling. Kerrick is all business at first but once he’s secured the asset, we see a completely different side of him – warm and sweet. He’s easy to like. Amanda is fascinating and such a badass, I really love her character. She’s determined to save herself and another prisoner so she keeps her cool and manages to set them free.

There’s not much to say without being a spoiler and that would ruin the suspense so I’ll just say that I really enjoyed Kerrick and Amanda’s story and plan to continue the series. I hope to see more of the couple and Brandon as I make my way through the Mavericks.

When SEALs get sick of following rules because they hold them back from doing the right thing they either accept it or walk away. However, for a select few there is an alternative - they can join The Mavericks - a covert black ops team that gets the job done (even if they have to break the occasional rule on the way). Widower Kerrick Cassidy is one of those men who are chosen - and his mission is to find and save cancer research scientist Dr Amanda Berg, who has disappeared off the street outside her Paris lab. Can he find her and bring her safely home?

This was a sweet and yet dramatic story of a strong man who does whatever he can to save this strong woman who is not going to be kept a prisoner and stop in her aim to cure breast cancer in the memory of her best friend. There was a lot of twists and turns as they both worked together as a team in order to find out who was behind her kidnap and imprisonment as well as their motivation. Well written and very enjoyable.

Navy SEAL Kerrick was at a crossroads when he was recruited to be part of a covert black ops team. His mission is to rescue Dr. Amanda Berg, a brilliant female biochemist. Other than a partner that would be named later, his only contact would be from a cyber team through a chat box. There would be scant information, but requested resources and transportation would be provided.

Amanda had been snatched off the street by unknown kidnappers. Far from being helpless, Amanda needs to escape and help Brandon, a boy, escape as well. Kerrick will need to use his instincts to keep Amanda and Brandon escape. With Amanda and Brandon's help, Kerrick will need to determine who is behind their kidnapping and why they were taken.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the start of a new suspenseful series blended with romance. I love the book and look forward to the rest of the series.

This starts a new series by Dale Mayer, which should tell anyone that has read her books that they are in for an experience. Kerrick is adjusting to being part of this new group of heroes when he is sent on a mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist in England. Amanda was snatched leaving work in France and has no idea where she is other than a small room without a bathroom and one crappy meal a day. The adventure these two will go on will draw you in from the first page. I hated putting the book down for any reason! Along for the adventure is a young boy that Amanda rescued right before she was rescued and Kerrick's backup operative Griffin. Just try to keep up as this group races to find the true villains in this kidnapping and the reality of their motive. Action, suspense, danger, love and a HEA wrapped up in these pages.

I was kindly provided this book as an ARC; in exchange for my honest review. This is book 1 of 3 in the new military romance series —The Mavericks.

The Mavericks is a black-ops covert government sanctioned group of special operators. The book revolves around Kerrick & Amanda. (My first impressions of the book is it’s very 007 James Bond like. Specifically, the unique equipment Kerrick is provided upon acceptance of his first job. )

Kerrick is asked to join a new elite group, with more flexibility on missions. Amanda is kidnapped walking to her vehicle after work. Amanda awakens in her ‘prison cell’ & when she realizes a few days later that a young boy is also imprisoned she’s determined to escape.

Kerrick finds Amanda & the child as they’re escaping & assists both. The story evolves, it gets slow and some parts do seem a bit unbelievable, but, hey it’s fiction.

Overall I’d give it 3.5 to 4 stars.

Kerrick- Maverick's Book 1

This is a very good beginning to the Maverick's series of books with Kerrick being recruited to do their first mission when he was at a crossroads in his life. He wanted to do something else with his life outside of being in the Navy, but still stay active. He was sent to rescue a kidnapped scientist, Amanda who was working on the cure for cancer. This action packed adventure turned out to be a love story for these two as they fell in love after Kerrick and Griffin, his partner for this op, rescued her and a little boy Brandon. There were many twist and turns as they figured out who was behind her kidnapping and to capture the people behind everything that happened. Kerrick and Amanda got there happily ever after in the end and Griffin was sent on another assignment in the next exciting release. I highly recommend this suspenseful romantic series.

Kerrick and Amanda did bot do much for me as a couple. TBH, the romance was not a necessary part of this book. I never felt like it was worth either of them changing theirs lifestyles to be together.

The kidnapping plot was interesting. Trying to figure out the reasons behind it was interesting. I liked Brandon as an addition to the other characters.

I listened to the audiobook. The narration did nothing to enhance the story. It wasn't bad. It was kind of blah. At one point in the book, it mentioned someone having an accent. I couldn't tell from listening to the narrator. It felt more like he was only reading the book until I got to the character of Brandon, and maybe Hinkleman. I thought the story was pretty good. I have listened to this narrator before, so I am not sure what the issue was with this book.

There was no definitive HEA, but there was the lead in to Griffin's story. I would give this book 3.5 stars.
