An adorable book!! Nelly is running her chocolate shop when she realizes that the store across the street is going to be a coffee and gift shop that will sell CHOCOLATE!! Incensed, she crosses the street to take the shop owner to task, only to realize that said owner is Jack Mason, her secret high school crush!! When shortly after the shops' opening, Jack asks her to be his girlfriend, Nelly is floored. What follows is a rom-com celebration of romance, families, friends. Does Jack really want Nelly to be his girl? Will Nelly's landlords' new love really throw her out? Are both families really crazy? I really enjoyed this book, as I have so many other ones by S.J. Crabb.
Really cute and engaging book. Nelly Gray owns a chocolate shop in a small English village. She's enraged to find that Jack Mason, her high school's star football players and hunk - who she had a crush on, is opening a shop across the street from hers and calls it More Than Just Chocolate. She's struggling to make ends meet and expects Jack's shop to run her out of business.
Nelly is determined to be enemies with Jack, but he asks her to be his girlfriend. Jack's Aunt Agnes is willing to give Jack, his sister, and his parents their inheritance before she dies if they meet the challenges she's set for them. Jack's challenge is to open a coffee and gift shop (one of Aunt Anges' dreams) and settle down with a girlfriend.
This is not your typical "pretend relationship" novel. It's about not judging a person, but instead really getting to know them before "assuming" you know who they are. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This book was okay.. I liked the story line, the characters were really developed, and the writing was nice, there were some grammatical errors though. Our main character, Nelly, owns her own chocolate shop and another shop moves in across the street. It's her old crush, Jake. Jake has a proposition for her, his great aunt left everyone is his family some money and in order to get the money, Jake needed to open a store. Low and behold, he makes Nelly be his girlfriend as part of this proposition, his aunt wants to see him settle down. Chaos ensues, a lie is told, and it's kind of obvious what that lie is...
I felt like the strange side story of Violet and Ken was 100% unnecessary, it was added for some drama but I could have lived without that. I also thought our main characters friends, just sort of fizzled away? They were prominent in the beginning and then, boom they were gone. It was as if the author didn't really have anything for them to do/ any meaning off them. I wanted to keep them around, the banter was fun. I did have a hard time figuring out the ages of the characters, they talked about school a lot and the past of schooling. Were they right out of school? Or older? It was odd that our main character worried and talked so much about the past. Nelly seems to be on her high horse, she has these moments of dialog that are insane, she's rude in them, and berates Jake, her family, and anyone else who will stand around and hear her go on a tirade. She seems to think she is better than everyone else in the story, and very judgmental. Towards the end of the book, I started really not liking her.

Young shop owner Nelly finally opens the chocolate shop of her dream and is trying to make sure it is a success, when the man of her childhood dreams, Jack, opens a competing shop right across the street. He asks her a seemingly random and out of the blue question that starts Nelly and Jack on a path that brings them together and happy in the end.
I really enjoyed Nelly’s character in this book because even though she was head over heels for Jack when they were in school, she is able to keep her head and not fawn all over him. I don’t like it when the main female character can’t seem to string together coherent sentences in front of the guy they’re interested in. Nelly had a powerful backstory of having been bullied in school by Emma and her gang, including Jack, and now as an adult has developed a lot of confidence and knows how to stand up for herself.
I liked Jack’s character, especially the part of the story where he always had a thing for Nelly when they were in school. However, I would have liked to have some of the story in Jack’s perspective.
Throughout Nelly and Jack’s journey to love there were also some really heartwarming background stories that were fun to read, like the reconnecting of Jack’s parents, and the drama with the con-artist Violet who tries to scam Ken out of all his money.
All in all, this book was exactly what it was advertised to be; a feel good romantic comedy with lots of quality characters.
This has turned out to be a completely unmemorable read. Even with the help of my trusty notebook, the publisher's blurb and reading some other reviews I still can't really remember the plot or the people. Looks like my rating was pretty accurate based on that.
All I can really remember is the main protagonist's landlord gets taken in by a gold digging piece of work who wants our heroine evicted from the shop as well as to take all his money. Somehow this plot gets foiled and she "gets hers". Oh and the love interest from school opens a rival shop that just happens to sell chocolate and he asks our heroine to be his pretend girlfriend so he can claim an inheritance. I remembered more than I thought!
Certainly was a quick read and sort of light hearted fun but I cannot help but think that a lot of it was speed reading to get it over and done with. I have read and enjoyed this author before and everyone is allowed a blip - hopefully this book is Ms Crabb's blip. It just stepped too far in to the realms of implausibility for my taste - even in a chic lit novel.
This review has been a long time coming. I actually read this book between the 20th and 21st June 2020 so my memory is a bit foggy about all the plot lines. Fortunately, I have a notebook where I jot some initial thoughts on the book and an overall ranking so between the book blurb and that I did have a reasonable handle on what I thought at the time of reading.
I always feel all the better after reading a S. J. Crabb story & Will You certainly delivers. It is so easy to relate to Nelly who has taken a risk to follow her passion by opening her own chocolate shop but then finds herself struggling to make it a full success and occasionally gets behind on her rent. Nelly’s stress is amplified when a new shop opens across the street offering chocolate and more. As if the competition isn’t bad enough, the shop belongs to Jack, the popular jock and Nelly’s secret heartthrob from high school. Having been more introverted and ignored in high school, Nelly finds herself questioning her self worth even this many years later but imagine her surprise when Jack seems to take a personal interest in her. Things take such an interesting turn from there but I don’t want to spoil the fun. What I will say is that things aren’t always what they seem and we really get to appreciate the depth to these characters leaving the reader routing for them all!

Delightful! Nelly, Jack, and the rest of the cast of characters are delightfully unique and entertaining. There are the “good guys" and the "evil seductress" that make for an interesting contrast and keep the story interesting. Always one to point out human foibles makes Ms. Crabb’s books pictures of real life with an edge. Great characters, quirky story, and terrific writing make this is delightful read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Will You is a terrific book from a very talented author. Nelly is furious when a new shop opens across the road from her chocolate shop and more so when she sees who owns it. Meeting Jack again will change her life in ways she couldn't even imagine. A host of characters bring this book to life and create some laugh out loud moments. This truly is one of the most entertaining books I've read in a while and I cannot recommend it highly enough. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I don’t know how a writer’s mind works but I have to say that S J Crabb is amazing!!! I found her by accident and now can’t wait for her next books. As with Nelly and Jack in this story...all her books have main characters and off shoot stories that are interesting and all connected. And I must say that mostly all of her characters are truly good people who just need to straighten “things” out. Always enjoyable!!! Everyone needs to read S J Crabb!!!!
I enjoyed reading this story about two people who went to save together, but definitely apart. She the nerdy introvert and he the handsome jock. There is much humor as they get to know each other's families. I recommend this book to any reader looking for a good read.
Funny, heart wrenching, tears, truth, love, family this book had it all! Families come in all kinds and we all have that family member/members that are off to their own rocker and move to their own best but don't mess with them cuz they will band together to do what is best. Family is forever!
I loved the story! SJ Crabb always has such good storylines that keep you captivated from to end. So much so that once I start a book of hers, I can’t put it down until I’m done. Her main always draw you in. Have fun reading! You will love the ending as well.
This was such an easy yet interesting read. I love the different plots and the tension. Wasn't your typical romance book which was a surprise. It made it all the better to read. Would highly recommend this. I for one will be now looking down another book by S J Crabb.
This was so much fun to read! (Of course, all her books have been!) A chocolate shop, a more than chocolate shop and 2 schoolmates who are worlds apart. This book made me laugh over and over!
