Meat Market #1

Greg: Meat Packer

Rate this book
Welcome to Meat Market
Where packing meat is an art form.

Greg:
I work hard at the meatpacking plant, so I figure I deserve to play hard at night.
Especially since my ex won't even return my calls.
Yeah, I've been hitting the bottle a lot more lately and going home with random dudes almost every night,
but I need to let off some steam, and this is the only way I know how.
Until this cop shows up in my life.
When I'm with Wilson I don't know which end is up,
and if you wanna know the truth ...
I think he really likes me that way.

Wilson:
I love bringing huge, hulking me to their knees ...
when I'm at work as a cop and in the privacy of my own bedroom.
When this Greg guy comes wandering into the precinct I see something in his eyes,
something that tells me what he needs most is a good, hard paddling.
Now I just need to convince Greg he's man enough to get down on his knees ...
and take every inch of what I have to give him.

Greg: Meat Packer is a standalone romance novel. It is the first book in the Meat Market non-shifter omegaverse series and includes loads of hot bad boys, plenty of intense hook-ups that will keep you up at night, and a super sweet HEA that will melt your heart.

Omg. What a mess. So many mistakes in the first 30 pages. I can usually live with a few spelling errors but the author said a character looked like “Jason Stantham”, not Jason Statham... twice within a few sentences. A few paragraphs later the two MC meet and the policeman MC says ”...Yeah, his scent was amazing...” only to then say “...he actually reeked of alcohol and look like he’d been up all night...” WTF? And yeah, that’s a cut and pasted quote that should say “looked” not “look”.

This book is only 127 pages so when you add in the info-dump style of writing and several more issues with grammar...I’m done. The editing really needs to be looked at again. I can’t believe none of the reviews even mention it but I can take a guess why. If this wasn’t KU I would have been asking for my money back.

Bad writing. Not worth the time it took to read it. Beware.
Filled with grammatical errors & annoying quirks such as the word 'alpha' being used over 50 times. This book isn't particularly long. So, it's a real drag.

The BDSM aspect is poorly written. The first sex scene in the book (and the second) lacks all consent. The first is a blowjob given to a guy who is asleep. Asleep! It's also just plain stupid to do as the dude is a cop, a virtual stranger & likely has a gun. The consent issues continue with the next sex scene being effectively revenge sex. The Cop (yes COP) threatens to charge the other character with assault if they don't comply & let him have sex with them.

It's evident that this book did not see an editor or unbiased opinion/sensitivity reading. The author also falls into the trap of telling us swathes of stuff rather than showing. Honesty, there's nothing I appreciate more than being bored for pages at a time & then when we get to the sex, angry as it's so abysmal.

Pass on this book. It's clear to me the author isn't writing romance for the love of telling great stories but, rather to profit from a genre that many adore.

I quit on page 44.

This starts with Alpha Greg waking up in a stranger's bed after a night he can't remember because he's in self-destruct mode after his Omega Billy dumped him. While Greg was doing whatever, Detective Wilson, also an Alpha, was trying to do a welfare check on someone named Nikki who had called a helpline and clearly been in a crisis. Nikki resided in a secure complex, though, so all Wilson could do is call the number he'd been given to try and contact that person. Unfortunately, it was a wrong number and Greg awakens to multiple messages on his phone from Wilson trying to discourage Nikki from doing anything they'd regret. Greg decides to go meet Wilson and explain the wrong number when he's unable to tell the cop by phone. This is not a meet cute premise. This is horrible. What happened to Nikki when they were left with no one seeming to care to check on them?

Continuing this story's downward trajectory, Greg is awful. He keeps thinking about Billy and how to get him back while continuing the behavior Billy clearly left him because of. That Alpha cop keeps sneaking into his thoughts, though, and has Alhpahole Greg fantasizing about giving another man head which is something he's NEVER done before because he's an Alphahole and expects to only ever receive oral. How did Billy suffer this man for 3 years???

I was ready to read on and see where this all goes when the author decides to dedicate the very next chapter after I've written off Greg, to making Wilson horrible. The club scene could be hot and some readers may love it. I am not that reader. Wilson likes to bring other Alphas to their knees, either by arresting them or dominating them sexually. At the club he's "undercover" at, there's a sex show on stage which features a chained Alpha of dubious consent getting a train run on him. Does Wilson, as a cop, intervene as the chained man is clearly not having a good time? No. He enjoys the show and wants to abuse the man himself because he believes the man knew what he was getting into when he put on the cuffs. Officer Alphahole, please remember that sex workers can be and often are sexually assaulted by clients who think that they can do whatever they want once they have the worker in a position that they can't get out of. Like chained up on a public stage in a club where everyone wants to enjoy a show and clearly cares nothing about how willing that man is. I don't think Wilson would have intervened even if the man were screaming No or asking for help. Fictional cops should be better, but Wilson seems like the reality of many cops who just don't care about victims and are in it for the power trip they get from a badge, cuffs and gun.

I would have liked to learn if Nikki is okay. I would have loved to read about Billy fully and finally rejecting Greg in a way that got through the man's obviously thick skull. But I'm out. 44 pages in and the main characters that get a happily ever after together are two characters that I dislike immensely. I'm so done with them that I didn't even skim through to see if anything more came of Nikki or Billy.

OMG you are gonna love this book! Xander has filled it with intriguing characters and situations. There is a love story, BDSM, mild violence, ultimate submission, and an understory that starts here, and ends in later books.
Meat Market club is a safe place to go to let your inhibitions out. Greg needs it. His anger issues and drinking problem need an outlet. Getting arrested wasn't on the agenda. But Det. Wilson is intrigued by Greg, and rescues him from the drunk tank by taking him home with him. They are both Alphas, but Wilson senses that what Greg needs is to surrender, let go, and just feel. When they finally both let go, WOW! But things aren't easy. There is a gang investigation that now seems to include human trafficking, the selling of stolen omegas. The corruption being uncovered strains Wilson's trust of his fellow cops, and the system supposed to prevent this from happening.
This is a non-stop, steamy MM sex, romance and action story. I could not put it down, read it in one sitting. In spite of the cliffhanger, you will love this book. I can't wait for the next one.
This book contains adult themes and language, steamy MM sex, mild BDSM and violence, and is intended for mature 18+ readers.

This is a great start to a new and intriguing series. Wilson and Greg are an interesting couple and I like how Wilson steps in to help Greg when he once again lets his temper get the better of him. They have a strong connection and I love that they are both alphas. Greg definitely needs someone in his life that is able to give him what he wants and needs. Wilson is perfect for him but Greg has to decide if he is willing to submit to another alpha. There are a few interesting twists and turns in this story as Wilson is investigating the recent increase in missing omegas and the local gang he thinks is responsible. The ending is good and I look forward to reading the next book in this new and exciting series.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

A great start to the series

I couldn't put this book down. Greg is going through a rough spot. He meets a detective who decided to help him out. Will it turn into a one night stand or will Greg be able to get out of his rough spot and see the detective will lead him down a better path? Detective Wilson is working a case and meets Greg who needs guidance. Can detective Wilson put his past behind him or will he let it and the case get in his way of true happiness? You will have to read the book to find out and I highly recommend you do. This book has your emotions all over the place. So buckle up and enjoy the ride, you won't regret it.

Holy steamy my kindle is on fire Batman! That was a hot book! Loved every minute of it but that cliffhanger though lol.

Character breakdown;

Greg: the man was like a lost puppy didn't know where to go or where he stood. It was sad to see but also very irritating when he kept going down the same path. But the way he gave up control was the hottest thing.

Wilson: the man hadn't struck me as an alpha at first but damn he had that subtle commanding tone about him. He was everything one could want in a kinky way. I loved him and the foot long.

I knew the author was good at the kinky stuff but this one melted my kindle. Damn I'ma need a new one before the next book lol.

Amazing new series!!

The story of Greg and Wilson seems like it's going to be the first in an amazing series. With the name Meat Market I was thinking this was just going to be a story of sex and control, but I was so wrong. I'm glad I decided to give this story a chance, it leads the reader on a rollercoaster ride through Greg's life. It leads to a great ending for both men but especially Greg who finally gets everything he's always wanted but was too confused too realize it.

A great start to a new series. I really like that both MCs are alphas, one who likes to be submissive and one who likes to be dominant. Greg and Wilson are great together and incredibly hot with lots of chemistry. A little angst but not much and a great HEA. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

3.5* The sex was hot, but the rest not really my thing. The omegaverse was not introduced at all. If not for the heavy use of the words Alpha and some Omega, I would not have guessed it’s omegaverse. It just seemed like a very macho story. And a macho alpha turning submissive. And dub-con. And a mystery story in the background that gets cliffhangery in the epilogue. After The End...

What a title!!

With a title such as Meat Packer I had to check this out. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to seeing what’s next. I am sorta hoping at some later point they add another to their relationship just so I can have the cute baby fix but we’ll see. They’re dangerously hot as is.

I was frustrated by this story, there were lots of interesting elements in it, but they just didn’t come together and it left me with more questions than answers. I hate info dumps in books, but some more details would have been nice.

An exciting, fun and hot story. The characters are fun to read and the story is entertaining.
Greg is working through a bad relationship and breakup when he meets a man he clicks with but doesn’t think things could work between them.
Both males are alphas so this makes for some sexy, hot and intense scenes.
Detective Wilson is looking for love but hadn’t been able to find it. Until one crazy call leads to an unsuspecting romance.
