Mae Huxley runs a budding tech start-up in Detroit, with the mission of getting more girls into computer programming. But she’s hit a snag. In the midst of a new project that promises to spread her teachings worldwide, Mae and her business are running out of money. Through a bit of serendipity, Mae is connected with one of her idols—wealthy technology goddess Audrey Addison. Audrey worked for the biggest tech giant out there, and now she owns her own angel investment firm. But she’s a serious and severe woman, a keen business mind, and she’s known to be an ice queen despite her fiery red hair. As they grow the company together, Mae sees through Audrey’s stern reputation and discovers the real woman underneath. Can Mae melt Audrey’s heart and succeed both in business and in love?
I enjoyed reading this. I really liked the tech aspect of the story, and the characters felt believable. This is the first novel I read by Nicolette Dane and certainly won't be the last.
I really have enjoyed other books by this author but this one was a dud for me. It was missing an actual connection between the two main characters. I just couldn't get into this story.
This book is unrealised promise. The premise is interesting with inbuilt potential for sparks, drama and everything else. But nothing is followed through.
I couldn't even finish this one. I got almost halfway through before I started skimming and then I just gave up completely. This book was fucking boring.
The romance was very lackluster and the book simply lacked passion. It just had a very bland and listless feel to it. It read as though the author didn't really want to write the book, as if it was written for a creative writing class that the author really didn't wanna take. The dialogue read as if the characters didn't know each other at all. Characters that were said to have know each other for many years just came off as if they were strangers have personal conversations. It was painful and awkward to read.
Also this Audrey character was said in the blurb to be this ice cold business woman, but she hardly came off that way. She was always friendly and warm, there was no ice queen demeanor like the blurb lead us to believe. I feel as though the book would've been a bit more fun to read if she was a bit more cold and bitchy from time to time. But no such luck.
Also the chapters were very long, but within them were a ton of section breaks. It was incredibly weird considering those multiple section breaks could've just been new chapters. I'm gonna say what I said above one more time cause it's the truth, this book is fucking boring.
📍 “She had gotten so used to Audrey being there, and now that Audrey was gone it just didn’t feel like home. It’s strange that you can happily live alone for so long, but then when someone joins you and you enjoy having them around, their absence doesn’t bring you back to that state in which you once lived.”
The characters were very relatable & likeable along with the storyline that was well developed, enjoyable & realistic.
A start-up computer company gets an influx of money.
The author has created an intrigue story where it keeps her readers wanting to keep reading . The two main characters, the owner and the money investor have to make a big decision and the resulting conclusion could last a long or short time. Enjoy! Footnote: my tenth grade English teacher who make me start over if I ended a sentence with a proposition!
This is the well written story about Mae and Audrey, the well developed main characters of the book. In the fast paced world of technology, Audrey invests in Mae's startup company, and the attraction between the two women is undeniable. Is there a future together or will Audrey leave as soon as Mae's company really takes off? Could they maintain a long distance relationship? For the answers to these questions, be sure to add this book to your must read list.
I was so caught up in this work! I just knew by the end of the book there would be heartbreak for Mae. What a pleasant surprise that they stayed together. I hope there is a follow up to their marriage and expansion of the business! I really enjoy your work. You never disappoint. Thank you for all your work.
The characters were strong and the premise was good. However, there were times that the story was slow which made it difficult to hold my attention. I also think that the story was about 100 pages too long.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I felt that the characters are lovable especially with their faults. I like that each person involved all valued and supported each other. The characters learned from each other. Very nice.
Mae had a start up she felt passionate about. Passion can take you far but you need money to keep it going. Here enters Audrey. Audrey has all the cash Mae needs to keep her business going. Audrey is in to make money. Together they can go far. Apart they can sink or swim. Read their story. Enjoy it. I did
