A Riveting Haunted House Mystery #4

The Haunting of Quenby Mansion

Rate this book
Mystery and horror surround a seventeen-room, vine-covered plantation house.
What was thought to be the solution to all of Evelyn Carr's problems is only the beginning of her nightmare. Creepy neighbors arrive unannounced, the town hates her for inexplicable reasons, and there's something inside of the basement. As a determined private investigator, Evelyn is hell-bent on learning the truth before the house tears her and her husband apart, figuratively and literally.

Good haunted house series

This book is pretty good I would have given it a 4 star review but it was a cliffhanger and I really hate cliffhangers. Otherwise it's pretty good!

I really enjoy the plot lines of these books but the the typos and other errors are very distracting

Always interesting plots and creative characters. I just really wish there was a decent editor of proof reader helping before published. Autocorrect, typos and other frustrating errors that could be eliminated and these would be 5 star reads

Editor needed!

This was a really hard book to get into, mostly because it so desperately needed a good editor. Overly descriptive. A good editor would know that not EVERY noun needs an adjective or three.
Yet, despite being so wordy, information needed for conversations and jokes to make sense weren't included, only to be randomly mentioned later (oh! That's why they said such and such).
There were conversations that made no sense. For example:
"You knew my father? "
"Yes...."
Sentences later in the conversation:
"Well, I'm his daughter. "
"Daughter? I thought... nevermind. "

It was an endless string of easily corrected problems. I can't say for certain, but there might be a decent story buried in the mess.

There are ghosts in the house! My favorite type of story. Odd things happen to a couple. It’s because of the house or who’s still in this house. The problems of the past must be solved.

Page turner. Fun classic haunted house book that are so rare to find. Looking forward to Book 2.

Another spooky audiobook for Halloween season. This one was good. I freaked myself out on my early morning walks a few times listening to it though. Foggy mornings, dark before the sun comes up, and a scary book! Perfect for October.

awful!

full of errors, whether it was spelling, grammar, continuity, or even completely getting a character's name wrong for an entire scene about here. there were just straight-up numbers inserted into some words, obviously a typo, but god it just makes it feel that much more childish. it reads like the roughest of rough drafts.

it obviously was supposed to be, or was at one point, several books compiled into one novel. i can tell you right now that putting it into one novel was the correct choice, but not without MAJOR editing. due it having been several novels, there is SO MUCH needless description of events and places that were already described 150 pages ago! cut out the double descriptions and the book instantly goes down from 400+ pages, to maybe 350, which this book *desperately* needs. it was just fucking dragging at the end.

plot was also obvious and predictable. characters fell flat across the board, especially when their motivations were completely ill-contrived and bullshit.

also, male author that pays way too much fucking attention to any & all description of female characters. bro is OBSESSED with the protagonist's "black, belted, double-breasted rain coat." like brother stfu

I loved the first book but as usual, they stop in the middle of the best part. I'm now into the second book to find out who did the dirty deed. It's a set of books I think you'll enjoy but be sure and get them together so you can go from one to the next.

Excellent

I really enjoyed the prequel to book one. This story grabs you right from page one. The characters and plot are well developed. The book is a must read prior to book one. I highly recommend this book.

very tense, fast paces book. In the mansion pictures hid entries to hidden offices and rooms and I always had a feeling that the people that entered would not be able to exit. Can not wait for the next book.

My gawd the storytelling is unlike any other

Unparalleled talent... these books have me up all night when I know I have to go to work in 4 hours I still have a hard time making myself put them down. The characters have such depth and no detail is left open. I cannot stop reading them! Thank you for writing them!!

Great read

This story grabbed me from the beginning. A real who submit. Lots of good characters. The only thing I didn't like were the multiple descriptions given if the same person or the plantation. If you are into the story, you already know that stuff. Otherwise, I enjoyed it very much.

Terrance and Evelyn go to Adders Georgia because she inherited an antebellum mansion with some land from her father. The hope to flip the house but strange things begin to happen. Since she never met her father, she is determined to find out more about him. As a private investigator who specializes in finding the lost she tries to use to skills to find out the mystery of her father and the estate she now owns.

This is one well done horror story. The characters are interesting and you identify with them. The descriptions are well executed and the action detailed. It is suspenseful and leaves you on the edge of your seat. The storyline is filled with twists and turns, creative scary scenes and surprising discoveries. There is an emotional component as you become involved in the outcome both for the living and the dead. The dialogue is well executed. This is an awesome horror story but it is a lengthy one so be prepared to take more than one day to read. But if you like ghost stories it is well worth the read.

This is a wonderful plot that the author brings to life with the use of vivid descriptions throughout the story. The main characters, Evelyn and Terrence, have a solid marriage that is tested to the limits. There’s mystery and suspense throughout this book that keeps a fast pace and I found it impossible to put the book down. I would say if you are easily scared or have bad dreams then read this during the day!

This writer caught me off guard. I picked up a single off Prime & after a bit of searching was able to pick up a box set for three series. Disclaimer: editing needed; something which again threw me off. My very favorite writer is Wilkie Collins and the psychological flaws of even the best protagonist. This writing gives the same feeling to this reader as Collins. Great writing & story telling, this author is now my current binge read.

I have no idea why I read scary books. I won’t watch a slasher movie, but give me a haunted house, give me nightmares book, and I can’t put it down! This was no exception. I hated going to sleep at night, especially since it took me overnight to finish, and the strange dreams kept coming. If you want a book with murder, mystery and a ghosts needing closure, this is your book.

Great short story about a Detroit private investigator who inherits an antebellum mansion in Georgia from her father who mysteriously disappeared ten years earlier. J.S. Donovan did an incredible job of building up the tension and creepiness making me unable to read this book before bed. I look forward to reading book one of the series right away to find out what happens!

This is a very good who done it mystery with an awesome haunted house! Evelyn was put up for adoption as a young child, but has now learned that her father has wiled her his mansion. It is very well written with very few spelling errors. For those of you who love mysteries and haunts I recommend reading this series.

A riveting tale

This was a really great book. The story was both scary and interesting. I loved learning about the different backgrounds of the individual characters that made up the story. Watching the cases get solved was great and having such a strong heroine that wasn't afraid to Show her weaknesses while she helped others was fantastic!

A great continuation of the first book. I only hope there will be another book so I can find out more about Evelyn’s past. I need to know if the ghosts are set free or lost to the mansion forever. A really great ghost, mystery novel!
