I'm a Korean. I have finished to read this book in Korean translation edition. So I don't know what the original title mean, and honestly don't care too much. The Naver Dictionary says it means 'Possessed' in Italian.

Many cases of possessed people appeared in this book. Especially In the first 4 chapters. They are 'Possessed of Loudun Affair', 'A Demon in Issime', 'A case of Christoph Haitzmann for Freud' Etc.
Later, Even though The author doesn't obviously say they are the cases, He dealt with some people in Voodoo, and a case of zombie, A werwolf, berserk and other cases. As you can see, It's written in a view according to exorcist culture in the Catholic. So I just wonder He thinks these other cases can be the cases of exorcism, or want to include them in it.

On the other hand, He is not providing some clear opinions If the cases from other cultures are Exorcism in the Catholic sense, And What is the limit between being exorcism and being Ill mentally. He sometimes mentioned some characters when it happens to people, which they say some weird foreign languages, or unholy words. But still the borderline is blurred. and I understand He didn't try it. It still looks like a solid problem.

Reading this book, I assumed The demon exist. an existence that tempt me into the evil way, dominate and manipulate me. Unless it was a kind of demon, Still I could feel something wrong compare to my "normal mental state" sometimes. Like I feel too hurried, being too negative, doubtful to unseen things, Cynical attitudes. They are normal, but I am away from myself anyway when they happened. Then What can I get from this book?

Logically the most safe idea is this. It's possible for me to lose myself. I have to recognize it at least for myself. It is not important what kind of the existence it is. They can drive my existencial life to death, or at least big damage. because the life doesn't collapse at once. Oh, It is. but the collapse is the result. The attacks come to us and our mental slowly, and secretly. So when it collapse, It's late. At least this book is providing many cases how people got driven to mentally dead state. Who cares if it was because of the demons.

I still believe we don't have to be 'holy'. But we need to protect ourselves. Loudun screwed up only the women and nuns? He had been dead inside. The Nature in Issime made people hurt. but the nature itself hurt. (But voodoo people look quite enjoying their loosing mind.)

He divides some cases of losing themselves such as Ecstacy, Trance. They can work for some mental patients. But I don't know they have to be a standard or an ideal state. Unless we deny the moderate state, I think an normal life comes and stays with us eventually until we die. So here is an ultimately normal person. So Let's protect myself. It will be my boring conclusion from this book.

So Was it a good book? At least in Korean edition, it was not too good. but It has some good small parts. You don't have to read it, but you can just scheme it.

To my H.
