A Frustrating Man 💙

I seem to have a thing for frustrating men because Nick fit that bill perfectly and I enjoyed it. 😄 Chloe ends up in over her head a couple of times when Nick is around and it leads to some very interesting moments, to say the least. I liked when she was all fire at him and his absurdities. Who he was in her professional life never stopped her from laying it all on the line. It creates the kind of fireworks and banter that I love in a book. It's an easy read with fun chemistry and a bit of heat to keep the winter chill away.

Traveling to the Exotic and Magical World of Love

Worldly Magazine, the publication of Nicholas Meryton, the 30-year-old amber-eyed, dark-haired handsome publisher, was based in NYC and had as its mission to explore the most exotic and esoteric destinations around the world. And, as its publisher, Nick made it his goal to personally investigate and experience as many of those locations promoted in his magazine as possible. He had learned that traveling the world was a method of never having to acknowledge his own absence of “home.”

During boss Nick’s most recent travels, Worldly Magazine’s editor-in-chief, Rachel Rothenberg, had successfully poached a new writer, Chloe Beckett, from her former job as a reporter with a celebrity gossip rag to join the staff of Worldly Magazine with promises that the new hire might someday have the opportunity to reveal domestic locations just as romantic, beautiful, and inspiring as those exotic sites that were often the primary focus of Worldly. What had caught Rachel’s attention was Chloe’s brilliantly written exposé of Nick Meryton, the globe-trotting playboy who had recently engaged in a scandalous liaison with a 19-year-old model and whom she had called a “pretty boy” in the article. But, as a new hire at his magazine, she would soon be calling him boss.

So, when Nick learns that the Chloe Beckett, the crafty reporter whose cleverly researched article had made him an international joke was the newest member of his staff, he also realized that not only could he extract revenge for his embarrassment, he could also redeem his reputation as a playboy.

And Nick began his campaign to redeem his reputation with the assistance of Chloe late one night when they both worked late. When Nick raced to grab the closing elevator doors, Chloe began to aggressively push the down button. But, as Nick slipped in, they began their decent, until the elevator shuttered to an abrupt halt. And, to Nick’s surprise, Chloe begins to hyperventilate, overwhelmed by panic in the small enclosed space of the stopped elevator.

Amazingly, Nick—playboy, world traveler and boss—proves to be kind and considerate during her panic attack, comforting her, talking quietly and rubbing her back, and encouraging her to breath with him. As Nick comforted the beauty with “Aegean blue eyes” and “chocolate tresses", something began to touch his mind and his heart that he had rarely—if ever—experienced.

And, as Nick begins to view Chloe differently, he suggests a path forward that would benefit both co-workers, especially after they both attend the same party where Nick witnesses his older brother David attempting to move in on Chloe. Nick swoops in, claiming Chloe as his “fiancé.” And, when alone with Chloe, he negotiates a mutually beneficial arrangement—for Nick and Chloe to be allied in a personal and economic partnership in order to further the needs of both—quite like an engagement. And Chloe agrees—and the arraignment works publicly, until for Chloe, the emotion of love that is supposed to be an act, becomes her reality.

LA Pepper continues her powerful and engaging storytelling with the story of bright, engaging individuals seeking the one person who completes them, as each supports the other to become a better individual. The author weaves a passionate and sensuous tale of love and discovery that is filled with the unexpected twists, turns and tunnels of life. And, while Nick and Chloe experience challenges not always of their own making, they face them with love and determination, with only a few bumps and scrapes along their way to happiness and wholeness. This romance is a reading adventure well worth the reader’s attention.

Chloe Beckett is a country girl who dreamed of getting out of her small town of population of six hundred. She wanted to travel the world. She got a scholarship to Princeton university and from there a job with a gossip rag. She did an in depth expose piece on the life of Nicholas Meryton founder and editor-in-chief of Worldly Magazine. Nick is a thirty year old billionaire pretty boy and was considered as a player. He's never at the company for too long because he spends his time galavanting all over the world with a different woman. Chloe piece highlighted the fact that he was dating an underage woman which put him on the radar of women looking for something after that article. It caught the eye of Rachel Rothenberg who was Nick's right hand. She hired Chloe as featured article writer. Because Chloe was so honest, brilliant, she doesn't play games, full of ideas Rachel saw her as her new protege.
Chloe was discussing an idea for a section of the magazine with Rachel telling her that she's boss when Rachel told her that the boss just grace the covers of gossip rags. Chloe responded by saying he's only a pretty face with an empty head all the while Nick was listening to their conversation. Nick and Chloe first face to face encounter was very combative and confrontational. When at the same time the two had an instant attraction. They hide their feelings for each other with their constant quarrel. Things change between Nick and Chloe on the night that the two got stuck in an elevator for a hour between floors. He helped her out through really rough time when her panic attack hit and she blacked out. Nick cool her down because she was burning up and he talked to her to distract. Although that didn't work because the two was about to take it to second base when the custodian interrupted over the intercom.
For the next three weeks Chloe could not get Nick out of her mind but he ghosted her after the night in the elevator. However, Nick is feeling the same as Chloe he can't stop thinking about her and he knows he should have went to her. But he also knows that she's his employee and no matter how bad he wants he it is wrong. Rachel knows that Chloe works too hard and doesn't have a a life so she tricked her into going to the company gala. Chloe wanted to get over Nick so when this guy David asked her to dance she said yes not knowing that it was Nick's brother. Nick saw David with Chloe and stake his claim. But Chloe was mad at him and playing a game with him the next thing she knew she was his fiancee. The two entered into an arrangement to fake engaged. However, Chloe fell in love with Nick an ran away. The was a really really good story it was fill with emotions, love, swoon worthy, and heat. It had wonderful characters, well written, easy to read, a standalone, and great plot.

Enemy Fiance Billionaire
By: L.A. Pepper
Narrated by: Natalie May @ HotGhost Productions

This is great enemies turn lovers romance is well written and well told. I enjoyed L.A. Pepper’s writing style and her way with words, she created interesting storylines that are captivating from start to end. The characters are complex and well developed, they were likable and easy to relate to. Chloe moved from her small town to live in the city she loves her new job working for a Travel Magazine, it features world travel and she tries to convince her boss, Rachel, to add a section featuring domestic travel hotspots. But Rachel says the owner/boss, Nick, wants to keep it international, Chloe had some choice words about Nick, only to find him standing right behind her. They exchange a few more words before he moves on. When she leaves for the day she winds up getting stuck with him in an elevator, she starts to see he is not as much of a jerk as she thought. At Rachel’s insistence Chloe attends the company’s charity gala and she catches Nick’s eye, he does not like who she is talking to and heads her way. She has not spoken to him since the incident in the elevator so she is a bit surprised when he comes over and acts like they were together even going as far as saying they were engaged. I loved how everything plays out in this book, it is well plotted and holds a lot of story for a novella sized book. There is never a dull moment with plenty of drama, angst, some humor and heartfelt moments all leading to a wonderful romance. L.A. Pepper, thank you for this great and entertaining story.

I listened to the Audition edition, narrated by Natalie May for HotGhost Productions. She does a great job bringing the characters and their story to life. She is easy to listen to, her pronunciation is clear and concise. I do wish she varied the voices for each character a bit more, giving each their own unique voice makes it easier to follow them and the story. Other then that she was a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen🎧

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Chloe Beckett works for Worldly magazine as a feature writer. Her boss Rachel Rothenberg thinks of Chloe as her protégée. Nick Meryton is the founder and editor-in-chief of Worldly Magazine but he looks to Rachel for the day to day running of the magazine.

Chloe wrote a scathing exposé of Nick at her previous job at a gossip magazine. Face to face with Nick, Chloe speaks her mind to Nick, calling him out on his bs. Underneath it all Chloe has an attraction to Nick as he does to her. They hide their interest in their bickering. Late one night Chloe and Nick get stuck between floors in the elevator. Chloe has panic attack and faints. Nick talks tenderly to her helping her anxiety come down. Their time alone leads to even more tension between the couple. At Meryton Gala Chloe ends up caught between Nick and his brother. Being flippant she mentions an engagement and Nick jumps on it. He sees it as a way to solve issues for them both. Underneath his words he sees it as a way to get closer to Chloe. Can they keep their hearts out of this business arrangement?

Enemy Fiance Billionaire is an easy, enjoyable read. The bickering between Nick and Chloe made me laugh quite a few times. Nick was great at playing an arrogant @ss but L.A. Pepper has written him so we get glimpses of the real Nick. He's a man in search of "home" and everything "home" encompasses. Quite often Chloe's zingers hurt his feelings although he would never show it. Chloe is a smart driven woman. She works hard to be the best writer and has no problem standing toe to toe with Nick to share her ideas. I recommend this excellent romance.

Her hot dilettante
This book is about Chloe and Nicholas. She works in publishing at a magazine called ‘Worldly’. And despite the focus on international travel, leisure and luxury, Chloe implores to her boss Rachel the importance and necessity of a regular section on ‘home’ travel. While she may not be the actual boss of the magazine, Chloe thinks that Rachel is the brains behind the operation, as their real boss Nicholas (Nick) traipses around the world like a celebrity.
As she was discussing this with Rachel, Chloe heard another voice come into the room. The sensual man that followed that almost took her breath away. She had written all about him, researched him, and examined his life, but it was the first time she had met him in person, and she was overwhelmed. It was Nicholas, the founder and editor-in-chief of the Worldly Magazine. Oops! They immediately engaged in a back-and-forth argument, which reminded me of two lovers quarrelling over something silly.
This continued through to the end of their story, with lots of drama, emotions, misunderstandings and passion along the way. And the way Nick described the colour of her eyes… swoon! I was however a little disappointed with how it ended, but I think it was because I enjoyed the characters so much, and I wasn’t ready for their story to end. I give this one four and a half worldly stars.

Chloe is a new hire at Worldly Magazine and her immediate boss, Rachel, is giving her a domestic travel assignment she's none too happy about. She points out that this is a travel magazine about worldly travel, not domestic. She also lets her know that she thinks the owner, Nick, is an empty, pretty face dilettante. She had written a scathing expose that outed his affair with a much younger woman that caused a scandal. When she realizes that he is standing right behind her, they argue about whether the expose is correct or not and how could Chloe call him a dilettante! They sound like an old married couple and the air around them is combustible. Everything is fine until the family charity event, the Meryton Gala. Chloe needs to have some fun and dances with a man named David. Nick sees it and has to get her away from him. David is his brother and they've always had a sibling rivalry. Nick tells his brother that he and Chloe are engaged and, after the Gala, they set down the rules for their fake engagement. Everything goes beautifully until Chloe breaks the rules. She has fallen in love with Nick and accepts an assignment in her hometown. The ending is sweet and emotional. The epilogue is pure perfection.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the enemies to lovers story of Chloe and Nick. Nick owned a magazine and Chloe started working for him. Chloe hated Nick, she thought he was a spoiled playboy. Nick thought Chloe was frustrating and hated how she judged him. One day they were stuck in an elevator together and Chloe had a panic attack and Nick helped her through it. Chloe admitted she didn't hate Nick, she was attracted to him and she hated that she was. When Chloe had to attend a fundraiser, she met David and thought he could distract her from her thoughts of Nick, only to find out he was Nick's brother. Nick told David to back off because Chloe was his and her joke about being engaged to him made Nick tell everyone they really were engaged. Nick told Chloe if she played along, he would give her a career boost and a section of the magazine as her own. Nick wanted to change his playboy image and he thought he could use Chloe to do it. They entered into a fake engagement, but soon things were getting too real for Chloe. I liked this book. I liked Nick and didn't think he was that bad. I think Chloe hated she had feelings for him and he wasn't as bad as she thought. I think Nick grew up and realized what was important to him. Good one.

It has been a long time since I have read an office romance. L.A. Pepper, always writes a complete story.
Chloe is hired by Worldly Magazine, as a Publisher. Chloe is passionate about Domestic Travel, and believes that it is an important part of a traveling magazine. Let us back up, Chloe was noticed for this position because she wrote an honest article, about the "Playboy" boss of Worldly Magazine, Nick Meryton. Resuming pace... Chloe was in her new bosses office, Rachael, gossiping about Nick. He overhears this conversation, and confronts Chloe. Readers would think that Chloe appologized, but instead she gets into a screaming match with Nick.
For the next few weeks Nick and Chloe, bicker, and push each other's buttons. After work one night, Nick and Chloe leave, everyone else has left, and they get stuck in the elevator together....... Sparks fly, and soon arrangements are being made.
Readers: If office romance is your thing, you will love the world Pepper creates for you. It's provocative meets small town, innocent meets City. Nick and Chloe are a writer's dream. I recommend this book.

Chloe Beckett is relatively new at Wordly Magazine, where it's all about world travel and luxury. Chloe wants to start a regular section called Home and focus on domestic locations. Her boss Rachel is on her side however, Nick Meryton is the Boss! Chloe has not minced any nice words about Nick and his celebrity status and in walks Nick while Chloe is going on about him. The papers call him the next big prize of the billionaires. Rachel keeps telling him he needs to tone things down but he listens to no one.
After an incident in a stuck elevator where the sparks were flying, Nick ignores her until at a gala where his brother shows interest in her. Nick sees red and goes to talk with Chloe and acts like they are together. Out of all of it comes the idea to pretend to be engaged, which should help Chloe get what she wants and also to help Nick's reputation.
Feelings are not supposed to be a part of the agreement but can they both stick to that? Will they both get what they want?

Chloe is a writer for Worldly magazine and wants to write about other places that they haven't written about yet. Nick is the owner and editor of Worldly magazine and he is upset somewhat with Chloe because of an article she wrote about him at her old job. So when they first meet sparks fly as they spar between themselves in front of her supervisor Rachel. They each are fighting their attraction for one another. Then one evening when they are both working late they get stuck in the elevator together and Chloe starts having a panic attack and Nick tries to distract her. Things heat up between them but they get rescued and go their separate ways. When they are at the Meryton Gala Chloe ends up being in the middle of a sparring match between Nick and his brother that leads Nick into announcing that they are engaged. Will this fake engagement turn into something more?

This is a great story once I started it I couldn't put it down. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

***3.5 STARS*** A decent read

This is the story of Chloe and Nick. NIck is a billionaire playboy who owns a travel magazine and Chloe is one of the new feature writers. They clash from day one until one day they are stuck in the elevator and they get to know each other better.

This was a short book about 100 pages and it was written well. I enjoyed the banter between the two main characters and the (initial) suggestion that Chloe was able to see past Nick’s exterior and call him on his stuff. My problem was that the characters weren’t consistent. Chloe was this great feature writer, that is what she wanted to do, she didn’t play games. But she did play games and she wasn’t confident and she runs away and easily quits her job. Nick is shown as this playboy and someone trying to get sleep with Chloe but he is actually very much a gentleman. It’s Chloe who seduces him and then can’t face her feelings. Her character really detracted from the book. I didn’t understand why she did half the things she did. I liked Nick more than I thought I would. Overall, not a bad book, but I will easily forget it and move on.

This is the first time I have read this author book. It’s about Chloe who a writer at the magazine worldly.she does not get alone with her boss Nicholas Meryton The founder and editor-in-chief.The reason they do not get along is because Chloe wrote a article about him.
They would have multiple screaming arguments until Rachel has to engagement ring back them.It was almost 5 o’clock and they were the last two in the office Nicholas drops a folder on Chloe desk and ask her to do some research on it.she picks it up and put in her bag goes to the elevators she thought that she alone but Nicholas was still there too.they get stuck together.(hot and steamy)
Chloe goes to the Meryton ball and meets David,Nicholas brother.Nicholas gets jealous Chloe says that she should
engagement ring back And that’s how is starts.
The enemies become lovers but in truth they both loved each other no cliffhanger but a Hea.
I really enjoyed this book I have to read some more of this author’s books.

How to Pretend to Love Your Enemy

Nick is a smooth operator! He's so charismatic, handsome & rich. It's no wonder Chloe was steered into playing her role as fake fiancee. Having to pretend to love your enemy started as awkward but with Nick's guidance, loving words & touches, romantic outings & his doting on her, the pretending is getting too close to being a very real relationship.

Truly a romantic novel that pulls you into their story. Leaving you with so many laughs & chuckles on how Nick makes it so easy to win her over, watching how she has to bury the ""he's the enemy" attitude towards him & how she's basically swept off her feet. Will she fall for his moves & realize at the end of this charade he'll break her heart when this pretend engagement ends? This story will linger within you for days after you've read it. I highly recommend this novel as it's a terrific enjoyable novel.

I really enjoyed reading Enemy Fiancé Billionaire; An Enemies to Lovers Fake Fiancé Office Romance by L.A. Pepper because it was a very steamy and heated story about Nick and Chloe. To say they clashed and didn't like each other when they first met is an understatement. It was only when they were put in a situation that threw Chloe into a panic attack that things shifted between them. Then at a party, an arrangement was made for the the both of them. It was supposed to be a fake engagement, but as time went on, those lines became blurred for the both of them. Real feelings were thrown into the mix of their relationship. I loved this story. Love the nickname that Nick calls Chloe. It is very sweet. I would highly recommend reading this heated enemies to lovers story. It was wonderful!!! Love the hot cover too!!!

Nick couldn't be more different from Chloe. While Chloe had to work for everything she has ever gotten, Nick was born with getting everything he ever wanted. Nick has issues with Chloe after she wrote a scathing expose about him. Though he is a fan of work they don't get along constantly arguing with each other. In trying to get away from Nick they somehow get stuck in the elevator. They shared some understanding moments and even and intimate one. Though both try stay away from each other the chemistry isn't going anywhere. Though in some ways the arrangement gets out of hand. The more time they spend together the more real feelings get involved. When things get physical Chloe feels that things with Nick and her job will be ruined she think its best that she leaves. Though what she doesn't know is he feels the same and just how far he will go to get her back.

Enemy Fiance Billionaire's title pretty much says it all. This is an entertaining enemy to lovers romance with a few interesting twists and turns. Nick Meryton is Chloe Beckett's boss at least in name. Chloe's real boss is Rachel Rothenberg. Nick may own the magazine but Rachel is the heart and soul behind the scenes. Chloe is disgusted with Nick's lay back playboy behavior. Nick finds Chloe's stick in the mud attitude way too frustrating. Yet as things progress they will be forced to let go of their deference's and work together to fool everyone with their fake engagement. Will their fake arrangement work or will their different points of view get in the way of their HEA? This is a book worth reading so read and enjoy.

* AUDIOBOOK REVIEW *

I liked the story, it had love and challenges and progresses nicely to a happy ending. It’s a basic story with no big surprises so I don’t sing praise for it but it was entertaining.
No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
Good dialogues
The characters is well written and developed in to different personalities

Narrator
Sadly I found this lacking, pronunciation is not always perfect but she read with feelings. I miss a male voice and since this narrator doesn’t do a male voice it’s hard to distinguish from the male and female characters.

My disappointment in the narrator could be part of why the story in itself didn’t reach the top.

This story was good. It was engaging, intriguing, and a fake engagement. I was really enjoying this story until I had guess the conflict. It wasn't bad but it all could've been avoided. The herione Chloe is beautiful, smart, funny, and dedicated. She's a journalist. She is a hard worker and independent. She is sassy at times and sweet. I love her character. I understand her completely. Nick is a charmer. He is the owner of a magazine company. He is playboy, smart, funny and sexy. He always busy and works hard. I would say he did redeem himself at the end. The writing was really good. Every word flows throughout the book flawlessly. My rating is based of unnecessary drama. Great work again L.A. Pepper!

Chloe writes an article (expose) that caused a lot of grief for Nick Meryton, the owner of Wordly magazine that brings her a new job at the magazine. She’s talking to her supervisor and says some not very nice things about the owner while he is listening in. Immediate sparks fly between the two and war is declared. After a mishap in an elevator when Chloe discovers there’s more to Nick than she thought, their relationship begins to change and when Nick snatches her from his brother by claiming she’s his fiancee, she goes along. Very likable characters that are both more than they seem. Fast paced story with a great romance. An easy read and well plotted story. I read it in one sitting. Looking forward to more by this author.

Rachel Rothenberg is second in command at Worldly Magazine. She has hired Chloe Bennett to write articles and be her protégé. Nick Meryton owns Worldly Magazine. He travels all over for inspiration for the magazine.

Chloe is not impressed with Nick until she actually meets him. There is an instant attraction between the two but they start off fighting like cats and dogs. Rachel thinks it’s funny because they are both head strong and have similar work ethics. Chloe and Nick end up stuck in an elevator leaving the office late one night.

What happens in the elevator? Will it change how they feel about each other? Will they be only boss and employee?.

They started off as enemies but there was an undeniable attraction. Problem was he was her boss and she thought he hated her because of an article she wrote about him. He was mad she was working for him but there was something open and honest about her.

This is a marvellous contemporary romance about two people who start of as enemies. The characters are charming and flawed making them personable and relatable. They have a lot of barriers to overcome both internal and external, causing emotional drama for both of them. It is an enjoyable book that left me smiling and feeling good. It is a great read.

A well-written enemies to lovers romance with characters that have undeniable attraction. They end up stuck in an elevator and things blossom from there.

Chloe is a new writer at Worldly Magazine. She's in a meeting with her boss, when her boss walks in. She has seen pictures of him and even wrote an article on him, but has never met him, until now. He is not what she expected. She can't stand him.

Nick owns and runs Worldly Magazine. He's back from Kuala Lumpur and walks in on a meeting. He doesn't recognize the women seated with Rachel, but knows exactly who she is when their introduced. She ruined his love life. He can't believe she works for him now.

It took me a few pages to get into this story but once the sparks started flying between these two characters, I was in for the whole kit and caboodle. Our MMC Nick is the typical alpha jerk of a boos - even though he is rarely around, when he is, he likes to rule to henhouse. That said, our FMC CHloe is as plain-speaking as you'd want her to be and stands up to her boss's flippancy and the chemistry ignites from there on.
Great banter, funny moments and some serious physics taking place between these two. Also a swoony-ness to their HEA that sold the whole book to me all over again!.

I loved this enemies to lovers story. Chloe takes a new job working for billionaire playboy Nick, the one she had written expose on. Then Nick and Chloe end up in an elevator together sparks fly between them. When Nick’s brother, David, shows an interest in her Nick gets jealous and says she’s his fiancé. Soon their fake engagement and things start feeling real. No spoilers from me! A great story filled with chemistry, angst and drama.

A fun, yelling-fest of fake relationship proportions.

I enjoyed the bold, loud, angry, snappy banter between boss-man Nick and Chloe, the new writer working at his magazine. I think their arguments were the highlight of the story, ha ha ha! The elevator scene was a top favourite, as was the disasterous charity gala event which thrust them into a fake engagement. Unique settings for a romance style which must become more difficult to write the more fake relationship stories hit the Kindle shelves... so well done, Ms Pepper!

NB I received an ARC of this novel.

This book is a quick but great read. The main characters are Chloe Beckett and Nicholas "Nick" Meryton. Nick owns the magazine that Chloe works for. They are both very outspoken; not afraid to speak their minds. In the beginning they have a love/hate relationship. Then things get flipped around with a single comment that was taken wrong. I truly enjoyed the way they interact with each other. I could be good friends with Chloe. Absolutely loved her attitude. The ending was great!
