The best yet

I can’t believe that these marvellous books keep getting better and better and Cold Comfort is the best yet. Some series run out of steam after the first two or three but not these. Absolutely riveting plot lines, unforgettable characters and a deceptively easy writing style that hooks you immediately. My only complaint? I want him to write faster.

Porter, the hard hitting, take no prisoners, shoot-or-be-shot private investigator is back. After wrapping up a case of a missing girl Porter is contacted by a woman that has an uncanny resemblance to his ex-wife Trish. That’s when things get complicated for Porter as he looks into the woman's missing daughter. Never one to give away spoilers all I’ll say is there’s a cult, a sheriff, that may or may not be good at his job, a great diner cook that keeps Porter well fed and even a bit of snow! (OK that last one may actually be a spoiler as it happens fairly late on but it doesn’t give away any story details so I feel good with it!) There’s everything I’ve come to love about the Porter books such as his sarcastic one liners, fist fights and there's even the odd gun fired but this time we get to see a more vulnerable Porter. He’s usually so certain of what needs doing and why but there’s a little doubt to things for him this time. This adds a greater depth to the character that readers of the series won’t have seen before. That said if you haven't read the other books then don’t worry as this book works fine all by itself, there’s no need to have read the previous ones. RA McGee has created a great character in Porter (just Porter no Mister, no first name, just Porter, okay?) and he quickly became a firm favourite with me and still is. For anyone new to the character you get a fun entertaining story that doesn’t hold back, a lot like Porter himself, and there are fist fights, gun fights, all kinds of fights but there’s always a clear engaging story full of twists and turns behind it all. RA McGee know the character and where he’s heading. As always I highly recommend any and all Porter books and this one is one of the best.

McGee has outdone himself with this book! His masterfully created characters literally jump off the page they are so real. Fiction is a form of escape and this story will have you escaping into the mind of one of the most complex, and yet simple characters that any author has ever created. He's big, he's brown, and look out if he's after you because you are going down. If you're looking for action, suspense, a strong hero to believe in with a worthy cause, this is the book and the series you don't want to miss out on! This an honest review based on my ARC copy.

Everyone has chinks in the armor they show the world. Porter’s soft spot concerns rescuing children. Lots of good plot twists in this book, and a feisty grandmother, who was my personal favorite.

Cold Comfort - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Ex Govt agent Porter is a divorced PI in the Magnum-meets-Jack Reacher mould in Cold Comfort by R.A. McGee, Book 4 in his A Porter Novel series.

When his latest client turns out to be a doppelganger of his ex, Trish, Porter's libido is piqued as much as his mental enthusiasm for being hired to find her missing
daughter. Renowned for his expertise in his speciality of solving such cases, Porter never dreamt that what should have been a straightforward missing persons
hunt turns out to be anything but, as he wrestles with murderous ex-criminal, weird secretive cult members, an ineffective local Sheriff and deputies etc etc.
Will Porter put his life on the line to save the daughter of a client who reminds him so much of the woman he's still in love with? Read Cold Comfort to find out!

This book humanizes Porter

I was so disappointed in Porter in this installment. He was very dumb, but I guess that made his character more realistic. I had so many questions about Cassidy that Porter should have asked himself, then I was thoroughly disappointed when he did not. I guess it's great writing when you have such strong feelings about a character. So, in short, great but frustrating read!

Great But Predictable

I still love Porter...R A McGee just has him idling in the midfle of no where. Compared to his normal drive this book seemed a little contrived even if trying to make Porter human for us readers and not heartless. The book tries to deliver Porter in a differrent light. Porter tries. There are a few character mistakes or variences from his normal compass and no I am not saying what because if you don't see good for you. Have a great read.

Hook, Line, & Sinker

Needles to say that I’m hooked on the Porter series. I’m very pleased with editing and the story line of each book. Easy to read, witty, dangerous, action packed and full of surprises.

I love this Porter series of books. Porter is such a great character. He never gets old. The character development is satisfying. The story lines make for page turners. I have to see what Porter is going to get into next.
Creative story telling that will engage you from first to last.

A really solid 3 stars and the best writing of the Porter series yet. OJT: The author is learning while writing. Maybe, someday, he'll write a 4 or 5-star book and get published.
McGee: lose the Converse sneakers! Geeze

Porter Slipped!

Easy to read & easy to follow. Seemed a little more gory than I remember previous novels - lots of blood, guts & brutality!

Most surprising is that someone caught Porter slipping! This time Porter was not ahead of the game & was actually able to get played!

Another fast-paced winner

Once again Porter comes to the rescue of a young person while getting distracted and thrown off course by a scheming woman. Another fun read.
