Let me review this book as someone who has read Zhao Qianqian's books before and as somone who has watched the drama way before I have read this (because I had trouble looking for the raw source of this novel online).
To be completely honest, this book was quite... disappointing compared to the rest who shared the same universe as this. From the drama, it was by far not what I had expected. The characters are given so much more personality in the drama and so much more potential. A big example of this is the female lead who has such an interesting personality in the television series rather than here. Her personality is captured and given value and she's not just the girl who had gotten together with someone.
Comparing it to the other books of Zhao Qianqian's, this one lacked the eloquence both To Our Pure Little Beauty and To Our Warm Time possessed. The two books has such beautiful writing and it captured the feelings, thoughts, and experiences of the characters better than this one. The writing of this one is too shallow in comparison to the two, the moments where a character ponders on someone else's existence were rare. As the storyline tells about "boating", or coming back to another person after such a long period of time, you will think that this book has deep levels of yearning, but it does not. It can't even come close to Jiang Chen's yearning in To Our Pure Little Beauty (the only one chapter that showed yearning did not even captured it entirely). While the two other books gave a lot of perspective on the other characters and let them had their moment, this one did not and I felt like I lacked Zhao Fanzhou's perspective from all of this.
Sad to say that this is not a kind of book that I will re-read, much unlike its sisters. Quite disappointing compared to the drama as the drama gives life to it.
