This book was given to me as a gift, and it that context it delivered. As a self processed Nerd Whisperer, the chapters presented new insight into many popular geek culture TV shows and films, without forgetting to mention that the books, comics or graphic novels may differ or, in many cases, be better at describing the drinks that made them popular; The Walking Dead, GoT, HP, Doctor Who, Breaking Bad, Star Wars/Trek, James Bond and the MCU are well represented in its pages and recipes. I wish The Walking Dead section had a few cocktails that were Halloween appropriate but unfortunately, no dice there. I'm still butt hurt that the DC Universe wasn't mentioned, and that the pixel chapter didn't contain a few more drink recommendations, even if they were non alcoholic.
Overall, I wish the book was heavier on the drinking and lighter on the trivia. Hard-core nerds will not be surprised by the info as they may have picked up on the tidbits before. I'll be on the lookout for more recipes in future installments.
I do not drink, but this was interesting to read about places etc. While the title made me think it was going to be a book filled with recipes, there are a few included.
This book is a nice little book full of tidbits and trivia on many geeky favorite TV shows, comics, and movies. Along with each section, there are one or a few cocktails matched to them. For instance, the James Bond section has a corrected Bond martini, the Star Trek section has Romulan Ale, and the Dr. Who chapter has a TARDIS blue martini. Overall, it was a fun read, but I rather hoped there would be more drinks included and less trivia. Much of the information is stuff a geek fan would know, although there were a few new things I found. Some of the drinks are familiar, some are new, some are riffs on existing cocktail, and a few are from the author or other drink makers.
Overall, it was a fun read, and some of the cocktails are good.
