'..her book is as compelling an account of a descent into what she calls hopeless alcoholism as any I've come across...' Adrian Chiles‘This book should be in every school, and in every home, and in every doctor’s office, and in every therapist’s office. And every politician should have a copy on their desk, and every troubled celebrity should read it too. "From Rock Bottom To Sober Forever" is far more gripping than any novel because it's real and it's important. It's gripping, inspiring, informative, brave, incredibly honest and powerful and brilliantly written. The most important book about alcoholism in years'. Susan Laurie was a hopeless alcoholic. She had resigned herself to an early death as she simply could not stop drinking, despite multiple attempts at Alcoholics Anonymous, hypnotherapy, counselling sessions, and stints in rehab. Something that had started so innocently was now killing her, and it had already stripped her of every ounce of dignity and self-respect and the respect of everyone around her. Frightened, alone and completely alcohol dependent at the bottom of the terrifying downward spiral of alcoholism, she knew that if nothing could be done she was facing a miserable and a very painful end. She then had one final desperate search for something or someone that could help her. With those dark times far behind her and totally free of alcohol, she has shared her truly remarkable journey to help others not only recognise the warning signs, but also hopefully to avoid descending down the alcoholic spiral to rock bottom. This is her story of conquering alcoholism forever, and it is essential reading for anyone concerned about their drinking or the drinking of someone they care about. And, very importantly, because Susan has carefully described the various treatments that she explored, you'll gain an important insight into the merits of many kinds of therapy.
This is a must read for a better understanding of the alcoholic mindset. An eye opening warts and all account of an alcholic's journey from despair and denial to redemption. You can sympathise with both sides as you begin to understand the terrifying hold alcohol has over a person. It makes so much sense why an alcoholic would rather be totally free from alcohol and all of its associative bad memories using this method, than having to put in 100% effort on a daily basis to NOT think about alcohol and be able to resist its temptations.
Brilliantly written, sad in parts but ultimately triumphant. There is always hope even despite many tried and failed methods and like Susan says, you should never, ever, ever give up.
Excellent read! The author leaves no stone unturned. However I’m not taking anything away from the hypnotherapist who finally helped her quit but I do think if she had met him during the start of her alcoholism journey it wouldn’t of worked because she wasn’t ready. It’s all about timing and she wholeheartedly knew it was her last chance. We can only accept certain help when we are truly ready and we’ve exhausted every Avenue ! Still lots of respect that she finally took her power back.x

Interesting and raw emotional read in the first few chapter and fully enjoyed. I struggled later with the authors take on AA, rehab and other treatments that she sought to overcome her addiction and think it unfair & very underestimating to say otherwise. It takes depth of character & care working with people with these types of afflictions/problems, sometimes at great personal cost and safety. I personally believe that we gather information and knowledge throughout our addiction journey and not one thread weaves our rug but many threads learnt from different experiences & practitioners may just give us the tools to eventually, when we are ready weave it ourselves, eventually finding our happiness and freedom. Sorry to say it was a little tiresome & judgemental.
This is a very honest account of the author’s life as an alcoholic and all her attempts and numerous failures at becoming sober. She has however overcome her addiction and has very bravely shared her story in the hope that she helps other people. Her story shows that however bad things may be, there is always, always hope.
