Cherringham #35

Too Many Lies

Rate this book
When Cherringham's Council debates selling the historic village hall for development as a luxury restaurant and hotel, all of Cherringham is up in arms; some seeing the sale as needed, others deeply opposed. For many, the centuries-old hall is the very heart of the community! But when the leader of the protestors is attacked after a raucous meeting and death threats are made, Jack and Sarah are asked to investigate. Can they find a possible killer before the crucial Council vote? And maybe stop a murder?

Set in the sleepy English village of Cherringham, the detective series brings together an unlikely sleuthing duo: English web designer Sarah and American ex-cop Jack. Thrilling and deadly - but with a spot of tea - it's like Rosamunde Pilcher meets Inspector Barnaby. Each of the self-contained episodes is a quick read for the morning commute, while waiting for the doctor, or when curling up with a hot cuppa.

Co-authors Neil Richards (based in the UK) and Matthew Costello (based in the US), have been writing together since the mid 90's, creating content and working on projects for the BBC, Disney Channel, Sony, ABC, Eidos, and Nintendo to name but a few. Their transatlantic collaboration has underpinned scores of TV drama scripts, computer games, radio shows, and the successful crime fiction series Cherringham.

Wow, I can’t believe that I have read 5-books in the span of 3 days. But when the story is as interesting and fun as Matthew Costello and Neil Richards have made the Cherringham series a compelling read with characters that are worth cheering for. Looking forward to the next book release to continue my journey with Sarah and Jack and the folks of Cherringham.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It is engaging, well thought out and well written, and as always a really good ending. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys reading a really good cozy mystery.

Great book in a fantastic series!

It's such a great to read another great book by Matt Costello and Neil Richards. This book is surprisingly prescient in our cash strapped, political times. You will love it!

A light, fun read

Well-written. A family story with the teenager-mother dynamic happily resolved. Includes an unusual couple with a retired police officer and a web designer who work together on solving local crimes in their village.

The town is divided by an upcoming vote about the town hall. There are plans to turn it into a posh hotel and restaurant and fine dining restaurant. The people of town who don’t want it are very vocal and possibly murderous.

A good book to listen too when you clean the house. It gives you ”Midsomer murders” wibes. It is fun to try to figure out how the guilty person is. Jack is a retired cop from US, Sarah is a singel mom and they solves crime together. This one was about a mystery.

Always a good read

I have enjoyed every earlier book in the Cherringham series, and this one did not disappoint. Among cozy mystery writers, these authors are among the best.

Don’t care how cheesy the endings are as long as all is well in Cherringham. A great escape listen for these strange touch times.

Cherringham is a lovely village but so much happens there, tucked away in the Cotswolds. Absolutely an enjoyable read.

This episode wasn't as interesting as some of the others I have read in this series but I still love the characters so it was interesting to see what is going on in their lives now and going forward.

Jeez! I love Cherringham, and Jack and Sarah and Tony and Grace and Chloe and The Spotted Pig and Riley, Jack’s dog. What a great bunch of characters. Novella #35 and I can’t wait for the next one.

In this one there’s an up-coming vote on whether or not to change an important historical building in town because the town needed the money before they went broke. Then came the knifing of Ralph Syms, the leader of the group who was trying to stop the change, then the firebombing of Syms’s offices, where Sarah’s daughter Chloe volunteered. So much story in so few pages.

No sex and no swearing.

As to the narration: As good as these stories are, they wouldn’t be nearly as good without Neil Dudgeon.
