For such a short story, characterization, action, and darkness are fleshed out well for an impactful read and reminded me more of the spirit of the first book in the series, "Ice Massacre".

Any fan of the Eriana Kwai mermaid series should give this a read.

However, if you haven't read the series, I wouldn't start here. I say that because it's kind of in a weird position. Though this says it's Book 4 of "Mermaid of Eriana Kwai", this is a far into the past prequel to the events of the mermaid series but also seems to be a kick start to its own series and ends on a cliffhanger with more to come. I completely endorse reading the series from the beginning.

a nice addition to the Mermaids of Eriana Kwai series

I wasn't exactly sure what to expect going into this short story, but upon finishing it I really liked it. I enjoyed Ice Massacre, Ice Crypt, and Ice Kingdom a lot, so being back in this world was nice, even if only for a short time.

Learning about Eriana was pretty cool. The author allows you time to learn who Eriana is and then let's you experience her story with her. I know this is considered book 3.5 of the Mermaids of Eriana Kwai series, so it has me wondering if we'll be getting another one? Even if we don't, though, I enjoyed this story and if you enjoyed the Mermaids of Eriana Kwai trilogy, I think you'll enjoy it too.
