The Real Woman Behind Halloween, The Fog, Escape from New York and more: Pioneering Filmmaker Debra Hill

Rate this book
The untold story of a young woman who shattered Hollywood's glass ceiling to produce celebrated genre films like "Halloween," "The Fog," "Escape from New York," and "The Dead Zone." Debra Hill, only in her twenties when her career began, went on to make classics like "Adventures in Babysitting" with Elizabeth Shue and "The Fisher King" with Robin Williams. Yet, up until now, little has been written about this extraordinary woman and many of the "facts" that are out there are wrong. ( Despite what all the reference works say, Debra was not born in Haddonfield, New Jersey, the town whose name she borrowed for the fictional location of "Halloween.")Whether you just long for the good old days when dedicated young people could make a legendary film on almost no budget, or you want to follow in the footsteps of a brave and capable woman who saw Hollywood challenges as opportunities, this book's for you. From her work with John Carpenter to her life-long friendship with Jamie Lee Curtis and her courageous fight against cancer, it's all here.

Debra Hill is a worthy subject and the author's admiration for her is clear. Unfortunately, this book doesn't offer much new research or insight.

Fascinating

There is not enough written about the trailblazing Debra Hill and her achievements in the film industry. This was a great read and left me wanting more
