Rate this book
It's a dog-gone mystery what's happened to Seneca's beloved pooch, Alistair... When Seneca finds that her beloved bulldog is actually a handsome young heir to a wizard mafia family's fortune, she's understandably surprised. But when she finds out that her own missing father was the one who turned the young man into a dog and then bound him to his daughter using magic, Seneca's downright angry. While she's trying to find a solution to her sticky situation, there's a murder in the magical realm--her father's former business partner has been killed. Could her father be the killer? And can she find him before the magical mafia does so she can break the binding spell, save the newfound heir, and get her life back to some sort of normal? With a little help from her coven, two talking cats, one former dog, and a cute wizard cop, anything is possible.

Ruby Blaylock (aka Jessica B. Woods) grew up in a small, southern town surrounded by colorful characters and lots of food. She loves a good helping of gossip and great food, not necessarily in that order. She is a country girl at heart and can often be found sitting on the back porch, sipping sweet tea and watching her fat hound dogs chase bugs.

If she's not reading a book, she's writing one, or reading one to her kids, who can always help her think up new ways to kill off annoying characters.

The fifth book in a fun paranormal cozy mystery with a little murder thrown in will keep you turning pages from the opening. Alistair was a British Bulldog and Seneca's protector. When a spell wears off and he becomes a very good looking man, Seneca is beside herself in knowing what to do and seeks the advice of her coven. Then when Seneca finds out that her missing father's ex-business partner was murdered, could Seneca's missing father, Viktor have something to do with it since he is wanted by the police and escaped arrest and jail? He abandoned Seneca and her mother when she was a child and participated in nefarious activities with the maestrioso a wizard group that likes to have control of people, government and own illicit businesses. This story has drama, some humor, mystery and some very strange events. When Mordecai, her friend Oliver's wizard, sage, lawyer uncle tells her some of the story as he knows it about her father being the one to change Alistair into a bulldog and attach her to him and him to her, she is bound and determined to straighten everything out. When Vivienne, Alistairs mother shows up at Seneca's home, to take Alistair back to their home while looking down her nose at Seneca, she (Seneca) enlists the coven to help her with this entire mess including the one which her father has put her in. She also enlists Daniel, a member of the Magical Police Force with a crush on Seneca and is jealous of Alistair. She has to get her father to unbind Alister and her as well. So much going on, so many texts and subtexts so deftly woven together you can't help but continue reading until the end without putting it down. I can't wait to see what could possibly happen in Book 6. I love the different characters in Senca's coven, Mischa the calming witch, Ellie a bit of a nervous Nellie and Poe the witch with an attitude but very with it who has two talking cats! Will they help Seneca find the truth and clear up the mess? I received and ARC from the author but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Seneca Wolfram's beloved dog, Alistair, has suddenly turned into a handsome young man.

And it was her missing father, Viktor Voltaire, who had given Seneca her dog, who had originally turned Alistair from young man to canine.

Viktor has not lived an entirely blameless life, and in fact is supposed to be serving a long prison sentence for crimes both magical and financial. These crimes included involvement with the maestrioso, the magical mafia. and Alistair is the son of Alexander Orlikov, a leading maestrioso whom Viktor insists was really a good guy, and who was murdered.

Viktor turned the then teenage Alistair into an English bulldog, and gave him as a pet to daughter Seneca, also a teenager at the time. He also put a binding spell on them so that they can't ever be too far apart. Shortly after that, he was convicted of his crimes, and went into hiding rather than going to prison. Now the transformation spell has worn off, Alistair is human again, and the maestrioso know that he's alive.

Alistair, Seneca, and Seneca's coven are in serious danger.

And they don't yet know the half of what Viktor has hidden away in the former family home. It's enough to bring down the entire maestrioso, and therefore enough to get a lot of people killed.

Seneca has to find it and get it to the police, without getting herself and Alistair killed.

For all the risk of death, this is a fun book, and Seneca, her coven, and coven member Poe's two talking cats are a lot of fun to spend time with. Recommended.

A Dogs Life

We are back with our favorite coven of witches and they keep the intrigue and murders coming.

Seneca's family comes out in this story and we finally get to find out what happened with her dad in the past while also getting to know her mother.

Lucky for us readers the dog Alistair will play a big part in this storyline and boy is it a doozy.

If you have not pick up this series I do recommend it if you enjoy, witches, warlocks, good and bad spells.

Ruby Blaylock did a great job with "Spellbound & Starcrossed." I was able to read it as a stand alone. If you enjoy witches and warlocks as a good easy read before bed this is for you. I haven't read any of the previous books in this series but I will be looking into them and now I have to find out what happens next.
Great job and keep up the good work.
Cheers

Alistair has regained human form but there is still a binding spell on him and Seneca.
Fortunate she has her coven behind her and that is all a witch needs!
A good storyline

This tale is skillfully written with great 2 and 4 legged characters. It was an enjoyable read and I’m looking forward to future installments. I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.

Funny story about a familiar dog who happens to be human. Still a murder mystery for the witches to solve.
