I'm usually in cahoots with the heroine of the story, as in 'You gettem girl! Tell him off and don't let him dictate your life!' But not this time. The hero, Lucas, was my favorite. He started off great and he had me rolling! He's upbeat and hilarious at opportune times, but straight forward and serious, letting his voice shine when it all boils down to his compassion for life. We never really see too much of the male prospective when it comes to decision making and life choices, but Lucas was strong and never backed down. In all honesty, he was Maryanne's stronghold, and I believe she would have fell, hard, if she didn't have such a wonderful person to encourage and push her in the right direction.

Maryanne has definitely had some rough times and never really blames anyone for the position she wound up in, other than herself. She chose to drink, but she didn't choose her fate nor the horrible things that were done to her. I do feel she was a weak woman and would have followed through with her original plan if her hospital stays hadn't prevented her from missing her appointments. And the fact that Lucas kept at her, constantly prodding and pointing her in the right direction.

And then we have the Triathalon/Ironman contest Lucas had been training for. This was written so well that I really felt Lucas as he competed. Felt his sweat, his muscles burning and begging to quit, his adrenaline rush as he pushed harder, focused on his goal, the prize at the finish line, and then his triumph. He's just a wonderful, awesome, and droolworthy male!

Nearing the end of the story, I was totally amazed to witness some pretty scary, yet beautiful things through the eyes of Lucas. He's definitely going to be hidden under some womens hearts ;b. Maryanne couldn't have asked for a better partner, lover, or hero to take her to the finish line. Nope!

I do have to mention that even though Maryanne had been weak, she found strength in herself and learned that fertilizer is just fertilizer. It's the beautiful flower that emerges and paints her heart with a little more color that makes all the difference in life.

So come along and see what happens, what life decisions Maryanne makes and why Lucas is so awesome!

Hidden Under Her Heart is a story by Rachelle Ayala that takes the reader up and down the emotional scales in the lives of Maryanne and Lucas. From their first meeting, the ride begins when Lucas plays a ridiculously immature prank on Maryanne who's on duty in her job as a nurse. Maryanne is equally immature in her vow to remain celibate until she finds the right man, but then when she and Lucas go on their first date, she teases, flirts, and makes it seem as if she'd like more. As the story moves forward, the reader learns that all she wants is to be loved.

As the book proceeds, choices are made by both of them, forcing them to grow up and face their demons.

I admit I wasn't sure I'd like this book because of its pro-life bent, but I decided to give it a chance because I'd read other books by Ms. Ayala that I enjoyed, and the premise also sounded interesting. As a pro-choice woman, I found the book an interesting study of the choices we make when life hands us rotten eggs.

The author does not shout her beliefs, which allowed me to continue the story. She merely shows through her characters that when it comes to pregnancy, adoption, abortion, and parenthood, consequences ensue so those choices must be made with extreme consideration.

Subtle religious overtones emerge throughout the book; yet again, there was no shouting. I'm a spiritualist, open to many religions even though I was raised as a Christian. The religious aspects of this book only confirmed my belief that faith in God sees us through the brightest and the darkest hours.

I give Hidden Under Her Heart five stars for its honesty. I also give Ms. Ayala five stars for her bravery in writing a story on a controversial subject in such a thoughtful and considerate way. Our discourse on divisive topics should always remain as civil as it does in this novel. I may believe differently from Ms. Ayala, but with her prose, she made me pause and think. If only we could all get back to this type of discourse in this country, we'd solve a bundle of problems facing us today. Thank you, Ms Ayala, for pointing the way.

Upon reading some reviews, I can see that this is a book that will likely cause strong reactions, one way or the other. I loved this book! I have been following Rachelle Ayala and reading everything she writes and in my opinion this is her best work yet.

First off, I really like Lucas. He has his flaws and is perhaps a bit extreme in some of his views, but deep down he is a loving, caring man who was someone I could really relate to and admire. He stands by his convictions and tries to do the right thing. My favorite part about Lucas was the growth his character took in the book. Maryanne is also a realistic character. Even though her opinions are at the different end of the spectrum from mine, I could feel her turmoil and enjoyed her journey and watching her conflicts. The cast of supporting characters was enjoyable too, complete with difficult family members and friends who sometimes caused more harm than help. None of these characters are perfect, and many times they might not even be completely moral, but I find that realistic to how people really are. We are petty, selfish, make mistakes, but try to do the right thing in our own ways.

For me, this book was pretty intense and I read it in just 2 evenings because I had to find out what happened. This story touched me and also made me really think about my opinions on abortion and why I feel the way I do. Overall, the romance between Maryanne and Lucas was satisfying and the action parts were exciting and fun to read. This one is a hit, and my favorite book of Ayala's so far. Looking forward to more from this author.

Whether you agree with me and love it or not, this book is sure to provoke some sort of response in you and is worth reading!

This is the third book I have reviewed by this author, and each one is unique in its own way. But I am going to be honest. Until the last 50 or so pages, I was pretty certain I didn't like this book all that well. There were many things that initially turned me off. One of the main problems for me concerned the main characters. I found that Maryanne and Lucas were just too annoying and stuck on themselves. I had no issue with the abortion element of the story. Indeed the author covered a highly contested topic with grace and dignity. And it was certainly balanced. I grew tired of the interactions between these characters, and I did not care what happened to them. I know that this review sounds extremely negative, and I would not have put all of this here if it had not been for the fact that the book made a shift for the better.

It never ceases to amaze me how the books that often stick with me the longest I did not relish in the beginning. Indeed, this is one of those books. When the book was almost completed, the author tossed a dash of danger into the mix. In a flash, I was so absorbed with the story that I found myself caring about what happened to the characters. It certainly helped that the profanity usage decreased. I know the author warned me about the profanity, but I will say one thing to her credit. She never used God's name in the wrong way. However, if you are turned off by profanity, I would caution you concerning the book. I saw the reason for the usage, but I was glad when the words began to disappear. There were no graphic sex scenes, but there was a lot implied. This, on the other hand, did not bother me in the least.

If you are still wondering why I gave this book such an extraordinary rating, let me reveal the reason. Very rarely do I find myself crying over a book, but this one brought me to literal tears. Sometimes I have strong emotions, but I was so moved that I was wiping the copious tears from my cheek. Why did I cry? Well, dear reader, I don't want to spoil the book for you. This book never comes across as being preachy, but the Christian message of the book is probably just as strong if not stronger than mainstream Christian books I have read. I was so touched that I could do nothing else but rate the book five stars. Now we'll have to see if the author writes a sequel. I would love to see the next chapter of this couple's life!

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

A Woman’s Right to Choose

Abortion has generated vehement political debate and controversy for years. I recently heard a statistic that one out of five women has faced (or will face) this choice during her lifetime—perhaps more than once. It’s a heart-wrenching decision for any woman to face.

Maryanne, the heroine of this novel already endured one abortion (after intense pressure by a sleazy ex-boyfriend) and it left a wound in her soul. She hardly noticed the wound until she faced the decision to end another pregnancy. Maryanne craves love and has a low self-esteem. After an argument with her boyfriend, she attends a party and falls prey to a date-rape drug used by a sexual predator. The rape results in pregnancy. Her father and girlfriends pressure Maryanne to abort the child which seems like the easiest choice.

Lucas is an athlete training for the Olympics. He’s got his own self-esteem issues because his white father rejected his black mother when she got pregnant. Also a previous girlfriend aborted their child to punish Lucas. He believes the act was murder and can’t forgive her. When he learns Maryanne is pregnant, he pressures her to save the child’s life. He promises to help her through the pregnancy and place the baby up for adoption. Potential adoptive parents who desperately want a baby add more pressure to Maryanne’s decision. Lurking in the background, an unidentified rapist stands ready to kill Maryanne rather than jeopardize his own freedom. Everyone seems to have a dog in this race!

The author expertly portrays the raging emotions of a young woman who contemplates this important decision. When a girl sees the fetus as just a “thing” the choice seems easy but when she sees it as “her baby” the choice gets more difficult. That girl becomes a mother the minute she forgets her own body and starts worrying about the child growing inside.

But the child is unwanted! Untrue. A woman desperately trying to conceive wants that child; a couple waiting on adoption lists for months or years wants that child; and a new mother clutching the tiny fist of a preemie fighting for life in an incubator wants that child. A novel like this helps flesh out all these situations for readers to consider. Be sure to keep a box of tissue handy to wipe tears as you read.

The author of this novel was incredibly brave to explore a controversial subject. She will be ridiculed or praised for depicting the decisions her characters make in the novel, so I choose to give her praise. Although the Supreme Court declared that a woman has the “right to choose,” each woman must live with the consequences of her choice. The real question is: “If a woman has the right to choose, should people support her decision when she chooses life?”

This story really made me upset that someone could get raped, and then have to deal with that man's child growing inside her. the fact that people suggested abortion made me even sadder. I am against abortion, except for this 1 circumstance. The author did a great job in making me feel for the characters and I had to see Maryanne through her pregnancy. There are so many different options instead of abortion nowadays. I wish that the author talked more about those options. However by the end of the book I was happy with the ending and I can not believe all that Maryanne went through. This book is definitely a book many women can relate too. There was also the right amount of romance and Lucas was also a character to bond with.
Lucas has very strong feelings about abortion, for very good reasons. After he talks to his mom he ponders whether or not his reasons against abortion are strong enough to risk losing Maryanne. Maybe he already has and it is too late.
There is also a whole different sub plot that Maryanne's life is in danger. Lucas tries to save her, but can he get the girl and save his heart? This book has so many twists and turns that it is hard to review the second half without ruining it. Let's just say the roller coaster of female emotions is written wonderfully and anyone that has been pregnant can relate to this story. I would love to read a sequel to catch up on these 2 great characters! There is also a surprise at the end for Maryanne and the reader! This surprise is worth reading the book! I am giving this book a 5/5 because it affected my feminine side in ways that other books have not

My Review: This is very timely book about a controversial subject, abortion. Not just abortion but aborting a pregnancy due to rape. Maryanne, a nurse, is given a date rape drug while at a party of the pastors son. Not knowing what happened she woke up the next morning sick and in someone else clothes dumped in the parking lot. Trying to put the incident out of her mind becomes impossible after a tape is released to you tube showing her in a drunken state and then apparently getting raped in a darkened area. All of this comes about just as she is starting to build a new relationship with the man of her dreams. Each new development tears them apart just after they find each other again. Maryanne wants to opt for an abortion after she finds she is pregnant but Lucas the boyfriend is violently opposed to abortion for religious and personal reasons. The author does a good job of delving into the emotions involved on both sides of the issue. I had a little issue with her not wanting a rape kit done since she could not recall what happened and since she was a nurse and knew how important it might be. Also the question of STD and HIV exposure was never addressed which is always a big issue with any rape case. But all in all it was a good story. I give the book 4.5 stars.

I haven't read a book in a long time that has both touched my heart and also made me think at the same time. The story of Maryann Torres and Lucas Knight is a story of young love but also of trust. The two main characters have a lot of internal issues to work through all through the story. In my opinion, Lucas was a true hero in every sense of the word. He was a good man that even dealt with somethings that he shouldn't have had too. He stood by Maryann no matter what the situation and also learned to struggle and let go of his own demons as well. Maryann on the other hand is not the type of girl I would be friends with or want to associate myself with. Her poor self esteem led her to many wrong conclusions throughout the story.
All in all this was a great coming of age story with a touch of tears, heartache, love, romance, laughter and pain.
I would highly reccomend this book to anyone who is looking for a great read.

Rachelle pens "Hidden Under Her Heart", a beautifully written tale dealing with the consequences of rape and abortion. She handles the pro-choice subject honestly and nicely, and one that I don't think anyone would have a problem with. This book actually touched my heart, which was something that was unexpected. Filled with emotion, I would recommend this book to everyone.

While Hidden Under Her Heart has a foundation built on controversial topics there is so much more to the storyline that needs to be considered at as well. As I read, I often found it difficult to come to terms with what I felt was the “most important” topic of focus. Author Rachelle Ayala tells a tale of love, loss, healing, family, personal growth, and what I found most compelling…. choice.

Real people real problems

This story deals with some heavy subjects and the real feelings felt from these subjects. The woman in this story has an abortion at a young age and years later is raped and pregnant and ready to do the same thing. But many things happen and she chooses to have the baby and possibly give the baby up for adoption. But God has other plans and as she faces trial after trial she realizes she needs God's forgiveness before she can forgive herself. The only thing I had a slight problem with was some of the people who professed to be Christians were Luke warm at best. Otherwise this is a heartfelt story that I think young woman should read.

Hidden Under Her Heart is a gut-wrenching journey of life-changing revelations and pure life-altering love. This story makes an art form of keeping you off-balance and always second guessing. Life is the harshest and cruelest adventure that you will ever take part in, but it can also be the most rewarding. Pain without passion equals a suffering worse then death, but love without hope is the most soul shredding fate imaginable. When you live with glimpses and small tastes of love, nothing is more intoxicating or exhilarating then finding the real thing. However, finding and keeping the real thing can be next to impossible when the hurtles and struggles are fiercer and higher then Mt. Olympus itself. When the heart and life are at odds, all we can do is fight for what we can reach and let hope guide our dreams into reality.

Maryanne longs for one thing in her life. She has a good job, a great best friend, and a family that loves her, but her heart is desperate for real and true love. She has gone through relationships like water through a sive, but is determined to find something genuine and long-lasting. Her best friend joins her on this unknown journey and they both find themselves walking into the unknown. Lucas has a single-minded goal of entering and winning a triathlon. His dreams will take him to even higher realms, but he must stay focused at all costs. When he crosses paths with Mayanne, his heart’s reaction to her is something that takes him completely by surprise. Neither is ready for what they find, and before they know it, life begins to peel back the layers of each to reveal secrets and truths that neither are ready to reveal or face. When life gives you everything you want at the exact moment that you can’t accept, you can either walk away with a soul searing emptiness, or you can change your heart and your goals in order to prepare for the next time you come face to face with your dreams.

My heart hurt for everything that Maryanne and Lucas had to endure in order to take hold of the amazing love that they knew they could share. It was pure torture to see them come close enough to touch and yet far enough away to never linger. The heart knows what it wants, and yet life can easily rip that possibility from our fingers. In those times we discover who we really are and just how much we can endure before we reach our breaking point. The most important thing to always remember is that if we are meant to find and keep love, it will be brought back to us in the right time and in the right way.

Rachelle Ayala has shown me that while love can be beautiful and breathtaking, it can also be a dangerous and lethal presence if it is misused and distorted. Even a pure love at the wrong time can turn sour and hateful if our hearts aren’t ready to accept and give it back. No matter what we can’t hold onto it with a death grip, but allow is to flow freely no matter where it goes or if never returns. We can’t direct the heart just as can’t direct the sun in the sky. All we can do is lift our face in the morning and enjoy its warmth and light.

Maryanne Torres is a nurse with a heart of steel. She's doing well with her 'no sex' bet with her friend, Vera, until Lucas Knight becomes one of her patients. He's handsome and annoying and won't take no for an answer. But, will a sinful and rugged past keep Maryanne from allowing herself happiness?

Lucas is a triathlete who trains special needs children for the Olympics. He's tired of women using him for his body and wants something a little deeper. He's taken with Maryanne from the moment he sees her, but will his judgmental attitude and temper force her to run away from him?

I normally have a huge issue with reading romance. Too many authors mistake sex for passion and rooting in the sheets for romance. Don't get me wrong, it can include that as well, but there's so much more to it. When I was a teenager, I loved reading romance! That was back before most romances were actually erotica. It was back in the day when an author made you feel that special tingle in your spine. They made you sigh with longing to be in that same spot yourself. Well, Rachelle finally got romance right! This is a passionate and romantic book without being ruined by unnecessary and useless sex scenes. Don't get me wrong, there are some steamy scenes, but they're true to the characters and the plot. I was able to read this and get that 'romance high' without being turned off by things being taken too far.

I normally have an issue reading 'Christian' fiction as well. I'm a huge believer in God and Jesus, but I don't like having religion rammed down my throat. Most Christian fiction I've read does exactly that. I'm quoted scripture and told what to believe and how to believe it. For me, my relationship with God is a relationship, and it's sacred and private. I want characters I can relate to that aren't going to preach to me. Rachelle pulled this area off quite well. The characters are believable and fallible. They didn't preach to me or tell me what to believe, but they let their own beliefs cause them issues. Instead of being told what to believe and how to believe it, I was able to take the ride with Maryanne and Lucas and learn through their eyes.

Now, the action! Oh my, the action! We have some really smarmy characters that you are going to love to hate! As I was reading, I found myself rereading sections because I just couldn't believe things had happened. It was great the way that it broke up the romance and drama and gave you a chance to stop thinking for a minute and say, 'Oh no! Seriously?' It really added to the book a sense of urgency to finish and find out what happened.

If you enjoy romance, action, drama, and being pulled away from your own life for awhile, this is definitely a book for you.

Summary: Maryanne Torres is a compassionate nurse who fails at relationships. After a string of losers, she swears off sex to land a marrying man. But a party she attends turns into a drinking binge, and she is raped. Lucas Knight is a biracial athlete intent on winning the Ironman Triathlon. He finds Maryanne the next morning bloody and unconscious. Since Maryanne cannot identify her attacker, he becomes the prime suspect. When Maryanne finds herself pregnant, she plans to abort, but the identity of her rapist is hidden in the baby's DNA. A trap is set. Lucas races to clear his name, but the secret Maryanne hides threatens to drown their chance for true love.

My Review: I should begin by saying that it has been quite a while since I have read a good Christian novel. I haven't been the best at my Christian ways since going through chemo and going through a lot of hurt from people who should be there from you. That said, when I was given the chance to read this book complimentary from Tomoson.com, I decided that I would give it a go. I usually know within the first 2-3 chapters of a book whether or not I will like the book or even finish it for that matter. When I started reading this one, I was shocked at how much emotion comes out within the first chapter alone. It has some very touchy subject matter (rape & abortion) The story of Maryann and Lucas is one of trust and young love. I feel a little bit like Maryann in the ways that she has such poor self esteem and I can follow those traits. There were a few parts of the story that I was a little confused about, only because most of it was stuff I cannot stand in real life. The breaking up and getting back together constantly bugged me because it happened so much. I was able to put most of it together by the end of the book and was satisfied with how it ended. As you read this book, you come up with your own thought and opinions on the characters, possibly liking one character over another (ie, I didn't like Maryanne by the middle of the book and Lucas was portrayed as this prince charming but I didn't feel it.) Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants something that will keep them reading and not wanting to put the book down. I think it is great for those young adults who are transitioning into womanhood. I give it an A overall.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

I don't know if this book really deserves a 3; I almost want to give it a 2. If I try to be objective, then it gets the 3. Here's why. This books deals with the very controversial and difficult subjects of rape and abortion. The author did a good job (quite commendable, really) of showing both sides of the abortion argument in ways that were honest, realistic, and non-condemning. She also did not hide the fact that women who experience abortions often suffer emotionally afterwards. I also really appreciated that she included a male character who suffered from losing his child to abortion. Too often men are completely ignored and overlooked in this debate, and I was thrilled to see that addressed here.

After that, you are probably confused why I didn't give the book a 4 rather than suggesting that it only deserved a 2. First, Maryanne goes through so many horrors that it was just no longer believable to me. I think some were added just to make the story more interesting, exciting, and tense. But my main difficulty lies in how Christians were portrayed throughout the book. Yes, there were genuine, loving people who were true ambassadors for Christ. But there were also characters identified as Christians who raped, got drunk, were alcoholics, and had sex with boy/girl friends before marriage. While I realize that this in fact is a very accurate portrayal of many "Christians" today, I was bothered by the fact that the author didn't make any distinction--not even a hint, that I could see--to show that this wasn't acceptable behavior for Christians. I mean, a character who is concerned that his church is "King James version only" but then has sex with his girlfriend? If this had been to show the true state of Christianity right now, with a gentle or subtle indication that this is not how it should be, I would've been satisfied. But if it was there, I completely missed it. That is possible, to be fair, because I was so hoping that this book would be all of that. I had expectations before even reading it, based upon the description, and the book just didn't quite meet those expectations. However, I still think the book has a lot of good, but I would be careful who I would recommend it to.

Hidden Under Her Heart is book 2 in the Chance for Love series. It is a story about a nurse who works in an allergy clinic that wants love, she wants life, and she wants a real relationship with trust and honor. Being that she hasn't truly had that in her life she has a hard time trusting. Her name is Maryanne and her life is about to change all because of one man named Lucas that needs allergy shots.

He comes in and she takes care of him thinking that he is like most men flirting to just do it and not having a real reason behind it she ignores his advances, flowers, and chocolates, and notes. He continues and finds that she and her friend have a bet going that whoever finds a man to be with with a marriage proposal and ring and set date to be married without having sex would pay for the other to have a spa weekend. Such a challenge.

As time goes by and tragedy strikes, Maryanne has to decide what to do with her life, and if she can be with Lucus, should she keep things to herself or be open? When a party at the Pastors house turns into Maryanne being raped and Lucas being blamed she has to decide whether to keep the baby or abort, but to clear Lucas' name the DNA is the only way to prove what has happened. I won't spoil the book for you. It is a total must read!
I rate it 5/5 Total must read and I have got to get the other books!

This story shows lots of emotions with adoption, abortion, pro choice and pro life sides. I like that a lot because it brings in to life how a woman thinks when in these situations but doesn't cram one way of thinking or another on you but shows a great way to explain it on both sides of the spectrum. I like that its not good girl meets bad boy that you get with most romance novels. The story is addictive. I can not wait to read the others in this series!
She wears her emotions on her sleeve but still holds back how she truely feels for Lucas. With friends by her side she begins to learn the real emotional attachment and love Lucas feels for her.

This story has lots of emotional ups and downs. Its a great read and once you begin you will be sucked into the storyline and not want to come up for air!

Hidden Under Her Heart follows two main characters, Lucas and Maryanne, and their life in California. Maryanne is an allergy nurse, and Lucas is an athlete, training for triathlons and the Olympics.
They meet one day when Maryanne has to give Lucas shots for his various allergies, and after a silly, kind of juvenile prank, they start seeing one another.

Despite Maryanne’s many failed relationships, she tries to be a good person for Lucas. Not too clingy or needy, but that really doesn’t happen for her. She ends up pushing him away and falls victim to a stupid guy and is given the date rape drug at a party. She doesn’t remember her night and the rape when it happens.
Eventually, she finds out she’s pregnant, and then Lucas is framed for her rape by some crazy church whose party she attended.

Okay, so, not to give too much away, I will go on and say that Maryanne and Lucas have to deal with a lot in their lives. They have an on and off again relationship. They can’t see eye to eye on many things, including abortion. Also, Maryanne is extremely clingy, which I found was a downfall, but very much in her character.

I would rate this book 4.5 stars out of 5. Honestly, the only reason I’m hesitant to give it a full 5 is because of Maryanne’s clinginess and neediness.

But, as the story progress and Maryanne and Lucas debate over the abortion issue, the story gets more interesting because you’re rooting for a happy ending, although a happy ending doesn’t make that much sense since she was raped. How can one recover from that?

The story is a beautifully written tale about dealing with rape and pro-life/pro-choice issues. Despite the horrific issue of killing babies, Rachelle weaves a wonderful tale about how pro-choice characters end up seeing the value of life from conception.

Would I recommend this book? You betcha! In fact, pick it up now!!

While I really love Rachelle Ayala's book, this was not one of my favorites. Don't get me wrong, the writing is a good as ever, the characters are very complex and realistic, and the story line is great. The reason it isn't my favorite is that it made me so emotional! I found myself so irritated at the main characters that I would have thrown the book across the room several times if I hadn't been reading it on my iPhone! Maryanne is so absolutely frustrating at times. She is determined to ruin any relationship she has with her distrust and insecurity. Lucas has a huge chip on his shoulder about both his color and the fact that an ex-girlfriend had done something he considered unforgivable. Both of them really knew how to make the worse of every good situation it seemed.

The book also made me cry. The story is at times completely heart wrenching. Reading this story was like being there at times. If I could have held Maryanne in a tight hug through parts of the book, I would have. She goes through a lot in the story, often alone, and really is so helpless at times. Lucas, while stronger in some ways, is just as needy as she is. They are actually perfect for each other, even if it does seem like it would be a totally codependent relationship.

The topic of abortion is the main theme throughout the book and I think it was handled well. Rape, depression, suicide, and love are also topics that are handled beautifully in this well written, thought provoking book. If you think that these topics would be too hard for you to read about, I would suggest you think carefully before reading this book. There are some really emotional scenes that might disturb some people

I recommend this book to anyone that can handle the topics, and that enjoy a sometimes frustrating but all together heart touching and romantic story.

Hidden Under Her Heart is a book about choices. The choices we make, and those made for us due to circumstance. In the book, we follow Maryanne as she is attempting to make changes in her life. She wants to move from her life of bad choices in men and sex, to a life where she has a man committed to her and to marriage. She decides to abstain from sex and focus on other things. She starts to date a man named Lucas, who could be that man. One night after a fight with Lucas, she finds herself at a party at a local church, and drinking. That night she is raped. Her boyfriend is accused, and she has to go about clearing his name. They go through many trials as they work to find the truth. Maryanne considers abortion feeling because of her past it would be the best. Lucas is dead set against abortion and works at trying to change her mind. There is trouble following them both as they try and figure out who the father is, and how to prove Lucas is not the rapist. As we follow their journey together and as individuals, we watch them learn about loving themselves and forgiveness.
Although abortion is at the center of the book, I feel the story was, as a whole, more about forgiveness and a search for truth. Through characters who show up at the right time, we learn about courage and strength. We find the sole truth to be that of Christ dying for our sins. We learn how God can use any situation to bring us to him and there is where truth is. We see that even when situations seem hopeless, he is there and will see us through. Although to me the story started out a little slow, the more I read the more I realized I was wrong. It was a heartwarming plot, good truth and a good look at how our choices affect our lives and future choices. A very good read!

Lucas wants to get fit for the triathlon. Maryanne wants to progress in the medical field. And each would like a relationship with “someone who loves you whether you’re sad, glad, or have a bad hair day.” They meet when Lucas comes into Maryanne's clinic for his allergy shots and their conversation strikes sparks. But soon those sparks are warm with the fire of a developing relationship.

Author Rachelle Ayala creates pleasingly natural characters in her novel, Hidden under her heart. Neither wants to rush into anything physical, and both are content to slowly get to the know each other—a process the reader enjoys too as they camp amid beautiful scenery, watch the sunset and enjoy shared activities. But Lucas and Maryanne have both been hurt before and dark times loom. Closed doors, dark rooms and physical assault lead to interesting questions of morality, prayer and control.

“Help me to understand her and be compassionate,” Lucas prays, but soon the reader learns why that understanding might be hard to find. Traumatic fears and dreams parallel agonizing decisions about the life of an unborn child. But the tension is eased with some wonderfully humorous scenes as it rises to the story’s dramatic and exciting conclusion.

There’s more to abortion than a strong woman’s decision, God’s instant condemnation, or a pragmatic plan for the future. Hidden under her Heart invites readers to think for themselves, even while offering an enjoyable romance, fast action, and a distinctive and persuasive Christian view.

Disclosure: I was lucky enough to find a free ecopy of this novel, but I can’t remember how or when.

I have been reading a lot of light hearted books lately. When I picked this one up and read it I was shocked with how much emotion was running through me. There are lots of women out there that have gone through the same experience as Maryanne. Sometimes people judge. That is just wrong. More people need to read a book like this in order to get the real insight into these touchy subjects of rape and abortion.

Maryanne is given a date rape drug while at a party of the pastors son. She woke up the next morning dumped in a parking lot in someone else’s clothes not even knowing where she was. To make matters worse a tape is released of everything that happened to her that night for her to relive all over again(even though it was the first time she was remembering it). All of this spiraling chaos happens when she finally meets the man of her dreams.

Maryanne wants to opt for an abortion after she finds she is pregnant but her new boyfriend, Lucas, is way past being against being abortion. The issue is covered from both sides of the table regarding abortion and I thank the author for that. There are a lot of one sided novels out there, that do not touch on the real emotion that a woman is feeling when trying to make this decision and fighting with herself from the inside.

I really enjoyed this story and I hope that if you get the chance that you pick it up yourself. It could change your life or perspective completely.

Wow Rachelle Ayala came through in her novel "Hidden Under Her Heart." Two young adults both with their on issues and upbringings come together it's either going to be fireworks or a dull sizzle. Hidden Under Her Heart delivers fourth of July fireworks. Maryanne Torres thinks she knows what she wants and needs to attract a good man; one that will not use her. She makes a decision to abstain from sex until the right man comes along and places a ring on the "correct" finger. Lucas Knight, triathlete of mix heritage, has his own demons to fight. Lucas just wants another shot to the Olympics.

Will these two be able to stand the test of times, with rape, possible criminal charges and an abundance of mixed emotions; Ayala spares no punches. This novel reads like a movie, if you are anything like me you will not wish to put it down until well after the epilogue. True to her other novels Ayala delivers a great story of love and two people trying to work through it.

Maryanne and Lucas wish to stay true to themselves and continue advancing toward their goals; but love is a strong feeling and emotion. Will it help or hinder their connection. This novel is only 256 pages so it's a breeze to get through and trust me you will enjoy it.

If you love this you will also love Rachelle Ayala's "Knowing Vera" the third novel in the Chance for Love series.

I loved Hidden Under Her Heart! I loved Lucas and Maryanne but they both annoyed me in some parts of the story. I didn't like the way Maryanne kept trying to push Lucas away when he just wanted to be there for her during her pregnancy even though it was not his baby. Of course I haven't been through what she has so I don't know how I would feel if I was in her situation. I also don't believe in abortion just like Lucas but at the same time I don't think bad of anyone that has had an abortion because I know everyone has their reasons to do the things that they do and I have no right to judge them. I believe that in the end Maryanne made the right decision but I felt so bad for her when her daughter was born so early and had to fight to live. It was great to know that everyone could forgive each other for the mistakes they made in the past and move on with their lives. This book made me angry, it made me sad, and it also made me smile but I really loved it. I have also read Broken Build from Rachelle Ayala but it took me about half way through the book to realize that some of the characters in this story, like Vera, are from the book Broken Build. I am also exited to know that there will be another book coming out soon about Vera's and Zachs relationship. I can't wait to read that one!

As a couple, Lucas and Maryanne, have to debate over an abortion issue. She became pregnant by going to a party and was slipped a date rape drug. Maryanne didn't remember any of the things that had happened. She didn't even know she was pregnant until later on.
Lucas was framed for her rape. He was training for the Olympics and had to take allergy shots. Maryanne was an allergy nurse and had to give Lucas his shots. They hooked up after a childish prank.

This book tells of the decisions made by those that face abortion.

Being a mom of 5 children, 7 if you include the two I've lost, it's a choice that I never chose. I couldn't bring myself to think of taking a life. After 28 days, there is a heartbeat and arms and legs have developed. By the time you find out you are expecting, the baby is already well alive and moving.

I will not disclose the outcome of the book and what happens as it should be something for you to read. Beautifully written and well told story of "Hidden Under Her Heart", you should pick it up and read it.

Rachelle Ayalafollow did it again!! With just the first chapter, I was hooked! The chemistry, emotion & love between Maryanne & Lucas through out the whole book is amazing! I couldn’t stop reading this book until I finished. The description of the book made me want to read it. I am against abortion, but it still seemed like it was going to be a great book. I was, indeed correct, in my assumption! This book is about choices. The choices we make & the ones that are made for us. The book starts out with Maryanne looking for a long term relationship, no longer wanting the short term relationships that don’t contain love and are based solely on sex. She meets Lucas, who she believes could be the man she is searching for. She attends a party, drinks & is raped. Lucas get the blame & Maryanne is sure it isn’t him to blame.
This book a book that is truly about forgiveness. We also learn how God uses many trials in our lives, whether good or bad to help us to totally rely on him to make those choices.

I received the chance to review Hidden Under Her Heart by Rachael Ayala. This book contains a story about a women, a man, and a abortion. I love the way Rachael writes her books. She has such a passion throughout the entire book that makes it a page turner. There are a few judgey parts throughout the book but I can overlook. I certainly would have picked up the book at a bookstore, and definitely bought it. When Maryanne meets Lucas, who possibly could be the man she has been searching for, but one night after a fight with Lucas, she finds herself at a party , where she is drinking, and then raped. Lucas is accused, but she is positive it was not him, so they set to clear his name. Lucas seems like a truly good person while I would steer clear of Maryanne. I don't like to associate my time with people who have such a low self-esteem because I would rather be a happy outgoing person. Its truly a love story from the start once she meets Lucas. I couldn't put it down, from the moment I picked up the book.

This book constantly had me on the edge of my seat as Maryanne and Lucas tried to figure out their relationship, Maryanne tried to decide what to do with the baby and as Barry kept harassing her! It's definitely one of those books that makes you stop and think about what you would do if you were in the situation.

At times, it was very frustrating dealing with Maryanne and Lucas' wishy washy decisions. I wanted to scream at them that they both loved each other so stop fighting it! But that's a sign of a good book when it makes you actually feel something.

I feel like the primary conflict of the book was Maryanne's rape but the book mainly focused on Maryanne and Lucus' relationship. The end of the book was very climatic and then I feel like it took a totally different turn and didn't really address the whole paternity except with a paragraph in the epilogue. Still a good read and one of those books that you can't wait to start reading again!

If i'm totally honest, when I downloaded this I thought that it was a real life story and that's why i wanted to read it.
However, I really enjoyed reading it, though the ups and downs of Maryann and Lucas wore me down and I found myself wishing they would just make their minds up.

Whilst I liked Lucas and the relationship they had, I was annoyed that he kept pushing Maryann not have an abortion - as a woman if I had been raped the first thing i would be doing, is booking myself in for an abortion. And given Lucas's history I found him to be a bit of a hyprocrite.

Anyway, it had a nice little ending and was worth reading.

Maryanne is a nurse, and she gets a prank pulled on her by Lucas. (He acts quite immature in the beginning of the book.) Lucas finds himself fascinated with Maryanne and pursues her. When they start spending time together, she finds she rather likes him too. But one night changes everything for Maryanne. Something happens to her, and someone is trying to put the blame on Lucas. Can they find out who really did it? Yes, but it will take time. As they struggle through what happened and the ramifications from it, they find themselves growing closer. Throw in some twists, and what a great story! Loved it!

This story was heartrending, though it admittedly caused me to ask some questions that I have been informed are abnormal. I wonder what it was that occurred to cause Barry's character to behave the way he did in the story (to the outsider it would appear that he had gotten everything he had wanted yet he was resentful toward Maryanne). It also shook my absolute stance on rape, though not intentionally and affirmed my feelings on abortion (not that I'm judgemental, I believe everyone has their own reasons for their choices)
Over all, this book caused me to THINK, a fact that made it both difficult and fulfilling to read.
