…and the world reduced to just him and her. There was no room for anything else in the equation. I’ll admit at first I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy it, but then I got sucked up in this world with Devon, Lord Darren and Arlene and couldn’t put the book down. Cristal has a way of describing things that makes you feel like you’re there (although sometimes you wish you weren’t). Be warned - it isn’t all happy go lucky, it has a dark side and that’s what makes it so good. This book isn’t your everyday run of the mill werewolf/vampire story, it’s so much more.
I need more because I’m not done with these characters! It ended too quickly for me. I loved Devon (Dean), Arlene (Lee), Lord Darren and even King Duncan (towards the end). Is there more than one evil out there? I HAVE to read the next one.
This was NOT a dimestore, one night stand, quick read, silly, young adult fantasy book. This. Was a four course meal complete with shrimp cocktail. I was engrossed from cover to cover. The twists! The turns! Is that lemon!? Well worth the read.
Wow, this was almost perfect! This author has crafted an epic fantasy, indeed. First, let me say that I adored Devon and thoroughly detested her father, Wolfgang. He somehow came under the spell of Marcus, a low born and crude “prince” who managed to convince him to sentence his daughter to death. For treason, which of course she had not committed. She’s taken to a werewolf special court that includes silver chains and shackles. She is seriously SA’d by Marcus and left to die. And that’s basically the first chapter or so…
Prince Darren and his “servant” Arlene come across Devon and end up saving her. The twists and turns that these three undergo are just fantastic and this book is pretty amazing. I’m not going to spoil anything but there are a number of characters to meet, and an evil one who will need to be neutralized.
KU read, and highly recommended. Very minor spelling and grammar errors.
I actually really liked the writing style. It wad unique how the author was inside the character heads. I loved how the bad guys were really despicable, but also human. And how an ally came from an unexpected source. I found this book in the YA list and i think it was misplaced because it is too sexually and violently detailed to be YA. There are rape triggers. You never see it but you are told about the rape and the severe, traumatic abuse endured by one of the characters. And while there are no actual intercourse scenes there are of sexual scenes as well as a predominant thought that sex outside of marriage is acceptable and encouraged. The story ended on a HFN ending
I gave up and returned to this book a few times, reading other books in between to breathe a little (right now, its paused). It's like I am reading a mix of a sassy Tolkien and a Dorama, with a pinch of brutality and some gore. Oh yeah, it mixes some really good stuff here. But I don’t know, some parts are super explored but some of them are built to end in a few lines.. And it is slow, so damn slow.. I love longer books but I need to admit this one is been hard to finish.
While it's true Wolfborn is epically long, it is paced so well, you barely notice! Romance, action, fantasy and a fight between good and evil with a bit of humour thrown in, this book has it all. While I loved the romantic interactions, it was the bond between Arlene/Lee and Devon/Dean that I really enjoyed. Highly recommended 😊❤
Overall, it took a while to get into this book but I ended up liking it. The alluring cover kept me on my toes and what brought me back each time I doubted the book. I guess I should have been in the right mindset as well going into this book, then I would have finished it sooner rather than dragging it out so long.
I guess the size of the book kind of intimidated me as to think this story would have been complex and hard to get in to. Yet once I made sense of the lives of Lord Darren, Arlene and Devon—I ended up liking their relationship. As the story progresses there is twists and turns that make sense, they’re not out of nowhere and thrown in for readers reactions.
The writing kept me going as it’s really flowed into the story and simple to read for a Fantasy novel. Sieberhagen really pulled you into the characters and made you sympathize for them, I can’t tell which were written better because the antagonists were a joy to read as well.
Surprisingly, I caught onto the world building fast because it wasn’t as complicated as I expected it to be. I guess it wasn’t the world building more of the Fantasy element, rather how different and dark it was compared to your normal Young Adult Fantasy books.
It really is an epic story & epic adventure & I am too lucky to have read it. I won't deny that after reading a few chapters I put it down because the pace of the story was too slow. After a few days I decided to give it a chance again & started reading. Now I can solemnly swear that if I didn't give it a 2nd thought then I would have missed such an awesome work. I loved Dean / Devon & Dareen too much & now Darren will always stay in my favourite list of fictional heroes. King Duncan's character was an actual surprise when it turned out to be so good & fatherly. But I won't deny, I felt a bit bad for Wolfgang when he discreetly felt sorry for his misdeeds & seeked redemption through death. Overall, this book is a great work & I loved it till the very end. Kudos to the writer. Wants more of her works soon.
