Ever since the Harvey Weinstein story broke, the headlines have been filled with one case after another of sexual harassment and assault by men in power who take advantage of ambitious and innocent women. But it is not only women who suffer. To emphasize the point that ANYONE can be hurt by sexual abuse in the workplace, The Deviant turns the Weinstein story around. Instead of the abuser being a man, it is a woman, and she victimizes young men who work for her. The male victims in the book are no less traumatized than the real-life female victims of powerful men. But how can these victims get anyone to believe they’ve been abused? Simply put, they can’t. Instead, they band together and form a plan that will bring about the justice they crave -but only if it works.

DNF - by page 43 I had enough of things like one character’s name switching back & forth between Mitch and Matt. And the continual spelling out of someone’s laughter, just no!

I was really excited to read this, as I loved the premise of the book. Unfortunately I felt the writing was jumpy and sometimes pedestrian. I felt the author could have gone so much deeper into the plot than he did, and just sort of glossed over an issue that is so prevalent in our society. We rarely hear about the men who are victims, and he had a chance to really dive deep and create a wonderful story.
Mind you, the story was still good, but just not as good, in my opinion, as the summary made it out to be. I was left disappointed in the non-resolution and lack of empathy, as well as what it is really like to be a survivor of SA. I know that trauma first hand, and this just completely missed the mark.

This was a short read that took me far too long to get through because I just couldn’t find myself to care. There were times that felt like the author was just sitting with a thesaurus to add adjectives that were unnecessary to the storytelling. Not to mention the spelling and punctuation errors all throughout the book.

The first half of the book felt like a cheesy cop movie…but not in a good way. The tone of the book was inconsistent and confusing.

ALSO…we’re using the R word???? Really???

WOW! If I did not have to work I would have read this book straight through. Although I figured out who "The Deviant" was pretty early on, I was not quite sure and anyway, it was such an interesting read, even knowing, I was hooked.
Not the best book ever but since I never read this type of book I loved it!

Mesmerizing Until the Last Page!

As a male sexual abuse victim of male abusers, I had ambivalent feelings about reading this book by Adam Sommers. But I was intrigued to read this story about male sexual abuse victims of a female abuser. This twisted narration does not disappoint. Sommers lays out the journey of an extremely wealthy woman who uses her position in life to take advantage of and sexually victimize her male employees. The characters were well-developed, and the story was spellbinding. I was mesmerized until the last page.
